Unfortunately, there isn’t any multi level filtering. However, you can create combination filtering. The Grid is a grid plugin which allows to create complex grid layouts. This is not a dedicated filtering plugin.

On your example it’s just a simple column system and not a dynamic grid system like The Grid.
Changing the layout on mobile devices requires to make customization to a skin. It’s possible but it requires knowledge in HTML/CSS in order to achieve a such result.

Sorry, but I’m not sure to fully understand your question.
Any content reveal on mouse hover will be reveal on tap on mobile devices as usual with CSS. This behaviour is not related to The Grid but how CSS works with mobile devices. And this behaviour will also depend of the browser type.

Unfortunately, it’s physically and technically not possible to reveal content on a website without user interaction thanks to CSS. A such thing doesn’t exist… An user interaction is mandatory to reveal content like for scrolling.

Before I purchase, I need to know if I can get all of these functionalitys working at the same time:
1. Masonry with random order on page load 2. Ability to Fix one grid item to the top right position when others are in random order. 3. Display a mixture of blog, portfolio and pages 4. Change to a different grid image than the featured image if required 5. have some grid items as just html and not an image 6. add a custome link to some or all of the grid items for on-click
I would be adding using visual composer, which doesnt allow all of the above to happen at the same time in its masonry grid feature

1) Yes, you can create random order for any grid which have as source (custom) Post Type(s). However, random order will be disabled if you have a pagination or load more button in your grid. It prevents duplicate posts and confusion for users.
2) By default, WordPress randomizes all posts. However, it’s possible to create custom and advanced queries in order to achieve what you want. It requires to use The Grid PHP filter in order to modify the Query on the fly.
3) In a grid, with as source post type, you can mix several (custom) post types. Unfortunately, when using a social stream (like Youtube, Vimeo, Instagram, etc…) it’s not possible to mix it with other sources.
4) The Grid comes with alternative custom fields for each post where you can set an alternative image (or link, audio, video, etc…) to the featured image. So, yes, you can add another image than the featured image of WordPress.
5) Thanks to the skin builder, with a Masonry style, you can create skins without image. Moreover, all masonry skins will not display image if missing. You can also display WordPress custom field values in a skin thanks to the skin builder.
6) Yes, you can add an alternative link to the default post link thanks to The Grid. You can also add several custom links in a grid item thanks to WordPress Custom Fields and the skin builder.

Thanks for your reply it was very helpful. I purchased a license and have my grid set-up. I was hoping you could clarify/help with a couple of things Im struggling with?
1. I have the grid set to display in random order, but random only really works on the blog post & pages. Most of my grid items are portfolio and they dont really move location, just left or right, never higher or lower in the grid?
1b. The blog posts always display at the top and dont mix further down the Grid? just like the portfolio items at the bottom never display higher up?
2. Can I make a pure html grid item? with just a colour bg? For instance for contact details (email, phone, etc) the only way I could figure that out was to use a quote which isnt rich text.
3. You pointed me in the direction of the PHP grid filter. Is there any other help you could give so that I can select a particular grid item to always display top right, when the others are displayed at random?

I purchased The Grid to solve an order/layout issue, and it hasn’t done that so far.
I need some help to get the grid items to appear random (mix together). I asked if this was possible before purchase and you confirmed it was.
My grid doesn’t display in a random order using ‘Order By’ random order, and I have looked at the query_filter instructions but I cannot get anything to effect the layout. All of the blog posts just sit at the top of the page.
Can you help me with a snippet, or a setting to display my grid items randomly? I have requested this before but didnt get anywhere, its now holding up my site launch.

Is it possible for the filters to load new content into the grid? I’d like to have 1 grid with a limit of 12 posts. Using category filters, I’d like the grid to always show the latest 12 posts, not just however many happened to be in the original 12 loaded.

The filter buttons can’t load new content in a grid. It will only hide or reveal items in a grid.
However, you can load in a grid the latest 12 posts from a taxonomy term or anything else. This doesn’t have any relation with the filter buttons.

1) Unfortunately, this is not possible to add social sharing buttons to the default lightbox. However, The Grid is compatible with several lightbox plugins like ModuloBox which have social sharing buttons.
2) The Grid was highly optimized in term of performance and will not impact your website loading time. The only factor which can slow down the loading time is the number of items in a grid and image sizes used in your grid as usual for any website.
3) With The Grid, you can filter with any taxonomy terms from any post type. You can also use The Grid as template in order to replace the default Woocommerce archive shop template. In that way, you will be able to use the native Woocommerce widgets to filter your grid.

1) Yes, when using The Grid lightbox, you can change the background color
2) Images used in the lightbox are the originals uploaded in WordPress. So, depending of your image size uploaded, it will fill the available space of the browser.
3) A lightbox will always open image in browser fullscreen. Unfortunately, you can change this behaviour.

No, the skin builder allows to create skins (item appearances). It doesn’t have any relation with the source (Post Type, Instagram, Twitter, etc..). Unfortunately, this is not possible to mix several sources in a same grid. You can only mix post types.

I added a grid with the filter list ( has 4 categories) and 6 items/page. Since all the category posts are not in my first page, i only see 3 filters. When i click load more, and a post of the 4th type is loaded, only then the filter option for the 4th category is available.

Yes, you can have inline video in the grid items. However, it’s not possible to autoplay inline videos. And I do not recommand to do a such for the user experience. And it’s not possible to autoplay on mobile devices. The best is to use .gif instead of videos.

How exactly does the built-in post like system work? Can a user only like a post as a grid item, or can they also like the post itself and have that input reflected in the grid? The post like system allows to like anytype post (custom post type). You can display the lheart like icon in any skin or can also use a shortcode to display it in a page.
Thank to the skin builder, you can also add shortcodes. So, if you have a plugin which work with shortcode then you will be able to use it in a skin.
