Why is this plugin keep sending email to “you@example.com” everytime it scan for news posts in feed? I been receiving a lot of bounce emails sending to invalid address.

We’re trying to capture the location element <location></location> and save it as a custom post metadata for mapping. From what I’ve read, SimplePie is able to do that via get_item_tags() but I’m not seeing an option to do something like that on your plugin demo.

We’re pulling in an RSS of job listings. Is there any way to automatically delete posts once they no longer appear in the RSS feed?
If not, what workaround do you suggest to get close to that behavior?
Perhaps deleting all posts (well, rss items will be saved as custom post types, so they’ll be safe to delete all) on a schedule to force the posts to be recreated?

First off, you did an amazing job but I cant figure out how to use a non rss feed and a regular URL, i used the crawler (great job on that code as well), it tells me which div/class but when i put a non rss feed in the rss to post it bombs saying its not an rss.

This plugin uses the SimplePie library to fetch the feed’s contents. So, it is limited by this library’s potential. Generally, SimplePie does recognize almost any feed (also Atom feeds and other feed types), but it can lack some non-standard feeds and may not recognize them. You can test if your feed is recognized by SimplePie, here: http://simplepie.org/demo/

Firstly I would like to thank for the excellent support. Please kindly accept some suggestions below if possible.
1. Is it possible to check the feed for less than 1 hour? I would prefer the have options 15, 30, 45 minutes.
2. Import feed items in bulk. In case I have several feeds with the same settings, there is no point creating a separate feed for each one.
3. A simpler option for deleting posts. For example, set an option to delete a post 3 or 4 days after publishing date. I know there is an option now but it is confusing for none tech people. I haven’t figured out how to use it yet.
4. As mentioned above. A statistics table per feed would be helpful as well.

I have made the minimum time frame for automatic running to limit users from importing feeds too often and overusing resources on their server (even with the current limit of 1 hour, I have clients who import 100+ feeds at the interval of 1 hour, and they sometimes complain about high processor usage). 2. I haven’t implemented the bulk feed importing, for the above reason. The plugin has a timeout for each importing process. And if someone would add 100 feeds in one rule, the plugin would import only 5-6 from them, because it would time out.
3. The deletion of posts after 3 or 4 days after publishing is already possible. Please try setting: ‘+3 days’ in the automatic deletion rule parameter.
4. I already have a statistics page on my to-do list. This feature will come in the future.

1. I understand your point but maybe this options should be left to the end user with a clear statement that high resources usage might occur. For example, if we pull a news feed then 1 hour is just too much.
2. Again we might have 10 feeds in 1 rule and set a timer between fees.

I understand your point, but to be honest, from the experience gained from the time I did support for this plugin, I am more pessimistic when I think about the average user’s behavior.
I have a pre-sale question. I’ve tried your demo, and it does work really nice, except for text spinning. You see, in English it works great, but if I try other languages, Russian for example, your Built-in spinner only turns numbers to words, and doesn’t spin Russian text at all. Using other spinners, text remains unchanged. Does this mean there is no way of spinning non-English text wit your plugin?
Also, question #2 – is it works with PHP7+?

The plugin supports English only, by it’s built in text spinning method. I have checked, and also the other external text spinning services also support mainly only English, except for The Best Spinner, which supports some other languages, but does not list Russian thru it’s supported languages. If you can find a good api based text spinner that supports Russian, i can make a custom update for you, to include it.
Regarding PHP version, yes, my plugin supports PHP 7. Even more, it is the recommended PHP version to be used, for best performance.

Thank you for quick reply. Actually, your spinner could do just fine, now that I see the code. One suggestion though is to make operate in multi-byte functions. That way it can work with lots of languages, provided one can manually compile synonyms.
If you could add UTF-8 support, that would help a lot (mb_substr springs to mind, but I’m sure there are other tweaks to be done, just to support multibyte).
I could assist you with testing on several different languages. Maybe also compose/look for proper synonyms file.

Hi – firstly Happy New Year!
Bought your plugin yesterday and was pleasantly surprised – only a couple of minutes to setup and it was working importing posts – very nifty and pretty easy to use – so thanks very much.
I had a little issue with the Read More link not being an active link – read through on here and realised it was because I had checked the strip links from the content. Unchecked that and all was good!
I added a bit of custom css to the theme and the Read More link is now a nice looked centered button.
I just have a couple of issues:
1) It doesn’t seem to be grabbing the author from the feed items as when I add the shortcode it doesn’t appear. The feed is from one of other sites and in the source it says <dc:creator> <![CDATA[acme sources name]]> </dc:creator>. If I add the shortcode on the feed settings then it doesn’t appear?
2) The cron job doesn’t look to be firing – I have it set to run every hour but no update. I tried setting the option to allow PHP to run the job but that didn’t resolve it unfortunately. The error I get in the log is: “An error occured while listing cron jobs”. I suppose I could run it outside of Wordpress/the plugin but would prefer to keep it all together – any suggestions?
3) Not an issue but question – is it possible to use a shortcode as part of the Read More text?? As an example I would like to use the source/author name so the link would read: “Read More At BBC” – is this possible??
4) Same as the above really – can a shortcode be used in the Tags section? Would like to have the source/author as a tag as that would help visitors.
5) Suggestion – Be nice to have a couple of stats on the main plugin page so that it shows how many articles have been created Today/Week/Month. That would help quickly identify issues and also see which feeds are pulling content.

Here are my answers:

2) My plugin uses wp_cron to schedule the automatic running. You should check if wp_cron is working for you (a good way is using this free plugin: https://ro.wordpress.org/plugins/wp-cron-control/ – it should warn you if there are errors with wp_cron, or you should see that no cron jobs had run for a long time). If you identify that you have an issue with wp_cron, you could contact your hosting’s support and ask them to help you with this – usually issues with this are because of hosting providers. If this is not solvable, let me know, and I will tell you how to schedule automatic running of the plugin with external cron.
3) You can customize the Read More button, for each feed individually, in the importing rule ‘Settings’ -> ’’Read More’ Button Text’ settings field. It does not support shortcodes, but you can enter any text you want in it. Example: Read More At BBC
4) In the same place like the above settings, you can find a settings field named: ‘Additional Post Tags’ here you can input a manual list of post tags that will be added to posts.
5) You can view some stats for each rule, if you hover your mouse on the ‘question mark’ at the end of each importing rule. There it will be visible how many posts were created by the respective rule. The general stats idea is good, I will add it to my to-do list.

1. When i change ‘Read More’ Button Text: to Περισσότερα… In Greek, it doesn’t change and remains as read More.
2. I couldn’t find the option to open the links in a new window. Maybe I missed it somewhere.
3. Is it possible to add multiple links at once. For exaple i have a website where I get around 10 RSS links as they are broken down per category. Do I still have to add them one at a time?

2. Thank you for the idea, I have updated the plugin to v 4.5.2. Added to the plugin’s ‘Main Settings’ -> ‘Open All Links From Post In a New Tab (target=”_blank”)’ – this will add target=”blank” to links from content. Also, added checkbox: ‘Add Rel=”Nofollow” to All Links From Post’ which will add rel=”nofollow” to links.
3. RSS feed URL grouping is not supported right now, but I have added this to my to-do list, I will investigate if this is a feasible update.

For the ‘Read More’ button to show, you must use the %%item_read_more_button%% shortcode in the ‘Generated Post Content’ settings field (in importing rule settings), for each rule where you want to show it.

Updated the plugin, added a new option for each rule: ‘Do Not Spin Posts Generated By This Rule’. If you check this checkbox, posts generated by this rule will be not spun.

This is because you are running multiple rules in parallel – and Wordai does not allow this. Please run a single rule at once (manually). Automatic running will know to run only a single rule at once – there should not be issues.

You can modify the content of the generated articles, if you go to ‘RSS To Post Rules’ settings page -> click ‘Settings’ for the rule you want to edit -> and add, to the ‘Generated Post Content’ settings field, this: %%item_read_more_button%% -> Save settings.
This will add a ‘Read More’ button to your generated posts. Please note that this change will apply only to newly generated posts.
Also, to link post title and image to source URL, please check the ‘Link Generated Post Titles To Source Articles’ checkbox, in plugin’s ‘Main Settings’.

Unfortunately, what you asked is not possible to do only by modifying the plugin. WordPress uses the same link for post title and image for main blog menu listing and also for in post listing.
So, to make the post link point to other pages only in the post page, would require changes to the WordPress core, in addition to changes to the plugin.
