Hello.
I have displayed Weather widget (that I purchased today with coordinates to “Pärnu, Estonia” city) to my web site. It loads the basics, but it does not load the data in some reason. Although, I have registered an API for both Open weather as well as Google maps.

Hi,
In your weather settings you appear to be using “Full Forecast Layout”. This option will automatically resize to its container so some of the information may be hidden.
You can place the weather widget in a container with a larger width, or choose “Simple Layout + Fullscreen Overlay”.
With the latter option, the user will see some dots to open the weather in full screen mode to view all weather data.

We’ve started using this plugin for a social media project, but we basically need the full weather to be basically like an inline header with current temp on left, then the 7 day forecast to the right of the current temperature. Is this possible or do we need to find a different plugin. Something similar to this app I’m currently using with Cloudflare (we’d rather use your great plugin) at https://www.gorgeconnect.com/gorge-webcams/
Can you help or maybe provide this option in a future release?

You can adjust the weather settings under Dashboard > Astero > Edit your weather.
Which default style are you looking for? Plain, image or video background?

I apologize for the last message, I figured out that I did not have the API Key correct. My issue now is adjust the size. There are no directions for this. If I cannot adjust the size then it doesn’t work for my site.

My new site is in staging right now. I am looking for something along the lines 1000 px x 200-ish px, maybe a little less on the height.

The width of the weather will automatically adjust to the width of its container. To set it to 1000px width and still be responsive, try the following css:
.astero {
width: 1000px;
}
To make it a little less tall, you can make the Temperature font size smaller in the weather settings, or adjust the bottom margin like so:
.astero .astero-small .astero-temp {
margin-bottom: 0;
}

I just bought this and there is no documentation on to set it up. I tried a few things on the settings and did ” New Weather” Geo location.. it is coming up as a black box

This plugin has not been tested with AMP, so it may not be compatible.
The width of the plugin will adjust to its container and is responsive. You can adjust the height of the plugin slightly by changing font size and margins. This plugin does not work very well for a very wide and short horizontal shape.

The widget is located on the right column. This is what it looks like on my end https://imgur.com/vhk6WMA although I have changed the background image and my shortcode is [astero id=”2231” city=”Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis”] which should show the city and country in the front end.

If you are only using one city on your site, I suggest entering the latitude and longitude for your city in your weather settings, then just use the shortcode [astero id=”2231”]
Can you provide a screenshot of your weather settings?
There are 7 custom images for the weather, did you enter the same image for all weather conditions? You may need to clear cache to see the update. Please clear cache on all caching plugins, Cloudflare cache (if you’re using Cloudflare) and browser cache.

Do you have backend cache or use Cloudflare? Try clearing cache on everything and your browser and see if it works.

Hello! How can I display the name of the city and not the neighborhood specifically? For example: in the US i want it to display Hialeah instead of Palm Springs North.
This will work masking the “false” locations making the weather more broad. Thanks!

This is the error message: “Your account is temporary blocked due to exceeding of requests limitation of your subscription type. Please choose the proper subscription http://openweathermap.org/price"
You can talk to Openweathermap customer service to unblock your service. If your site regularly has more visitors than the free calls, then you may want to consider subscribing to their service.

Running into a couple of issues on this plugin I hoped you might be able to illuminate for me; 1) the youtube channel id and giant play button is visible on some devices when using a YouTube video as a bg? Any way to prevent this? 2) It would appear that despite location services being turned ‘on’, that some devices/areas are still unable to see the weather relevant to their location, and instead seem to get weather from other areas nowhere near them. Please advise. thanks very much.

1. What devices is the play button visible on YouTube? I can check if there’s a way to hide it, but the video button is controlled by YouTube so it may not be possible. The safest way to show a clean video background is to upload a .mp4 video. So you may want to consider that instead.
2. Are you using HTML5 Geolocation or IP Detection? The latter is not exact as a database is used to guess the location based on user IP. Do you know if those users are using a VPN or something similar?

Hi,
The location problem is a hard one to solve because it is limited by the technology that is available, and doesn’t have to do with the coding involved in the plugin.
If the user blocks the Location prompt on the browser, then the plugin reverts to IP Detection as a back up.
You can send me an email at support@archtheme.com and I’ll send you a plugin with the most updated IP detection database, it should have more accurate addresses. Sorry if it doesn’t help.

How do I change the name of the area in the forecast? I dont want it to read “SOMEWHERE, US”. Id lke to edit it so it reads, “SOMEWHERE, CALIFORNIA” as all of our visitors are US driven. No need to tell them the country.

I don’t think you’ve really read my request and my explanations. So I’ll start again before noting your plugin that I paid 29 US$ with in its description “Support 45 languages…”.
I know how to translate with Poedit, BUT the texts that need to be corrected are not in the .po files, their source is elsewhere. That’s why I’m writing to you, not so that you can answer things I already know and that I explained to you in my first email.
So, when on your plugin there is a translation of Partly Cloudy, which becomes, translated into Spanish literally “Broken Cloud”, I think there should be a possibility to improve that right? And thus give more value to your work, unless the 29 US$ and “Support 45 languages…” is to take people for fools.
My question again is, how? If it’s not possible then it’s not worth $29, it’ll be worth my rating and my comment.

The example you gave is related to the weather information. The weather condition translations are provided by Openweathermap. They are not locally translatable because those texts are provided by Openweathermap.

I installed Loco translate which allowed me to correct some errors but some are missing and the original text is not accessible. How can I do it?

The recommended way to translate local text strings for the plugin is using Poedit (https://poedit.net/) to translate the .po file located in /wp-content/plugins/astero/languages

I asked an OWM API tech last year about City and State support (U.S.) in the API and was told at that time that OWM only supported Cities and Countries, but not City and State. Do you know if this has since changed, or if you will be able to accurately implement the OWM API into the plugin? I moved to Astero from another plugin because of the issues with the OWM API at the time. Now that OWM is being considered as the replacement for the DarkSky API in Astero, I again have concerns about the accuracy of location data once this is implemented.

May I ask if you have any reason why you must use City and State? Is it for the search function or just to set a specific weather location? In the latter case, the plugin actually uses latitude and longitude now.

In the use case that I presented to OWM’s developer, I have employees that will look for weather in Odessa, Texas. Because OWM does/did not offer City and State lookup, when a user enters “Odessa”, it returns weather for “Odesa, Odessa Ublast, Ukraine”. OWM does/did not recognize “Odessa, TX” as a location and does not return results. It is standard in the U.S. to search for “City, State”, which the DarkSky API does correctly. I’m still unusure from your answer if Astero will be able to correctly locate “Odessa, TX” using the OWM API.
Actually, I just tested your demo linked above, and indeed, it does not return any result for “Odessa, TX”, which will render this plugin unusable without a better API or more accurate location search by the OWM API developers.

Are you using HTML5 Geolocation or IP Detection Only?
It seems you want a broader location, in that case IP Detection Only usually uses a broader location.
However please note that location detection has its limitations after all, and IP Detection may also be less accurate. The only way to ensure the weather uses a certain city is by entering a specific latitude / longitude.
