Hello Support,
I’ve just now purchased the weather plug in Astero.
As i try to install inserting it in the PANNEL:
Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, select astero.zip and I press Install > the system say this alert> “The link you followed has expired.
Try again.”
why?? i’ve tried again and again and more but nothing. How can i do to solve please? what is expired? i ‘ve bough some minutes ago.. I’m waiting for your response, thank you so much in advance. Renata

You could unzip the file astero.zip, login to FTP for your website and manually upload the folder astero to /wp-content/plugins/

Or you can add the following lines to your functions.php

This plugin works very well in the header of my site’s desktop version created with Elementor Pro, but in mobile version I placed it in a popup-aside-menu. The menu may be loaded after the plugin is activated by javascript. I’ll have to check how Elementor Pro loads the menu.

In most cases the plugin doesn’t work because no API key has been entered under Dashboard > Settings > Astero Weather. You can check if that’s the case first.

Astero Weather Plugin and Hero Maps cannot be active both on this same site. Astero Weather works and Hero Maps doesn’t show. I checked it in troubleshooting mode and both shortcodes are printed. How can we fix it. Google API on Astero is switched off.

Under Settings > Astero Weather fill in the Google Map API key, and check the setting below “Skip Load Google Map”, you should be able to activate Hero Maps now.
If the above doesn’t work for you, then please provide your website and I’ll take a look.

I feel a little frustrated. I got the Astero plugin installed. But the navigation in the html documentation that came in the zip file dose not work. I really need help setting up this plugin. Specifically, I can’t set it to a location.

Sorry there was a little problem with the documentation and the links don’t work in Chrome. However you can scroll down normally to see all the sections.
However, Dark Sky (the weather provider) closed new registration sign ups without warning, so I am transferring the plugin to OpenWeatherMap. The update should be ready in a few days. There will only be 5 days forecast in the new version. If you don’t want to wait for the update, you can apply for a refund.

I got an email from Dark Sky telling me they’ve been integrated into Apple. I have my API but it will only be valid until the end of 2021. How is it going to happen next? Moreover, it is no longer possible to get an API key now on the Dark Sky website.

So far I’ve been able to get the plugin working. Everything but getting the search feature to change cities. I just get an NA. How do I check if my google API is working with the site? Also, a nice feature would be able to change font colors when using video.

I see some console errors on your site.
“You have included the Google Maps JavaScript API multiple times on this page. This may cause unexpected errors.”
You can try the following to fix the problem:
Under Dashboard > Settings > Astero Weather, check “Skip Load Google Map” and save. You still need to have the Google API Key entered above. Please remember to clear cache and check again to see if it works.

How often are API calls made to the DarkSky API, are the request to the API only made when a wordpress page with a shortcode is loaded. The reason for my question, I would like to create 10,000 weather locations. I will create 10,000 WordPress pages each with a single weather location. If API calls are made automatically on a daily or hourly basis regardless of if page is loaded then this will get expensive too quickly. However, if API calls are only made when page is loaded then this will be much cheaper and manageable. In other words, lets say out of those 10,000 locations, only 100 consistently get visited and their pages are loaded, however the other 9,900 wordpress pages never get visited – then I do not want this plugin to make API requests to DarkSky for those other 9,900 pages with locations since there is no traffic to those pages. The API calls are made only when a page with the weather display is loaded. It will then be cached for 1 hour on the visitor’s browser. So 2 visitors to the same page will trigger the API call 2 times.
To know how many API calls your site makes per day, you can estimate by the unique visitors to your pages that contain the weather display. Dark Sky provides 1000 free API calls per day.

Yes, you can create multiple weather displays with this plugin.
You can then display those weather displays on your site with shortcode or widget. You can place multiple weather displays (with different locations) on the same page too if you like.

This is a follow up on my prior support request. No go. Still not working. It picks up my location ok, but not when I search on another location. See images of my Google console api pages and the results for bookitbbuddy.online/weather.
Also, I want to default the F/C on the search screen to F, not C. How do I change that?

I find that sometimes it helps to regenerate the API key.
Please make sure that your site is allowed in the HTTP referrer for your Google Map API Key, or that there are no restrictions.
In the Google Console API Key dashboard, enter your site under “HTTP referrers (web sites)” in a similar format:
.bookitbuddy.online/ www.bookitbuddy.online/*
The settings can take a while (10 minutes or more) to activate.
There are currently no built in settings to change the default to F, you’ll have to edit the source file. Please do the following:
1. Edit the file /wp-content/plugins/astero/public/partials/astero-public-full-display.php
2. Around line 86 change the following from:
$select = '<select name="units"><option value="metric">' . __('°C', ASTERO_SLUG) . '</option><option value="imperial">' . __('°F', ASTERO_SLUG) . '</option></select>';
to

3. Save and clear cache.

I already did that and the API shows active. I have worked with Google developer console for a number of years, so I have some experience with it. I have regenerated the key, no success.
I am getting a message: Remember to configure the OAuth consent screen with information about your application.
There is nothing in your set up instructions that says to do this.

Is it possible that you don’t have the following services enabled? Directions API, Geocoding API, Maps Javascript API.
Another answer also stated that he had those services enabled, but had to disable and re-enable it again for it to work.

I accepted the geolocation pop up. However, when I try to search for somewhere else it just stays on the same location. Also when I select C or F it doesn’t change. Can you help with this?
Also is it possible to put the name of the location (Town, Country) for which it is showing the weather on the page?
