While any setting can be turned into a server-detected mobile-specific setting by creating a custom preset and choosing that only for mobile… If you only want to affect the caption size by device resolution your best bet is creating custom CSS with a media query.

JIG doesn’t use much media queries built-in.

I used it yesterday to make a harmless database replacement (find “lapel pin” and replace with “pin”) and discovered the JIG problem this morning. I did the same database find and replace just now and lost my JIG preset again, which I fixed again by restoring the database.

Hi, it’s on the todo to “Filter by image’s parent gallery/folder name”. That feature only exists for NextGEN at the moment (“NextGEN galleries (of pictures in the grid).” the option is only available if you have that plugin..

Adding new features for RML or Lightroom is a priority so contact us from the profile if you want to beta test this feature once it becomes available.

These include “Show all images under a certain RML point” and “Show multiple RML galleries at the same time, merged” both of which would be meaningful with the filtering feature as you’d get a collapsed view.

Yes, I would test the new features! But where and what should I write exactly to do that?

Yes new functions are on somewhat of a pause but will eventually return. That plugin looks like another almost-gallery plugin, doubt that it’ll apply its effect on a 3rd party gallery like JIG. More meaningful updates would target performance and code modernization, and features for photographers (Lightroom sync or exif and such). Not sure how much the design itself would evolve, we like to keep the frontend pretty minimal. Would definitely not load any party animation libraries that would bloat it. An in-house lightbox instead of random/old third parties is also under consideration. Only lightboxes we recommend are by dim semenov (magnific and photoswipe).

I dont mean party animation but for example that many effects in plugin from link I gave you are pretty cool – makes WP site much more interesting. Unfortunately as a gallery display its unusable as adding photos is too slow and overall functions are too limited but from design point – they have really great effects which makes site to stand out. Main problem I have with most WP themes and plugins – not creative – so all looks same and boring. Creativity is important

Hi, while there was a new setting addition in the recent update, it does not affect anything by default. Hotlinking protection is managed in the timthumb-config.php and not via the settings. Not sure why the version switch changed anything for you. Is your host known to overwrite clients’ timthumb.php?

Hi, the link is completely missing from your thumbnails (desktop). Do you have the lightbox setting as “link-off” anywhere? They point to just a #.

I played with all the link options and it didn’t seem to do anything!

Desktop still seems to be working. when I click a thumbnail the link looks like https://www.willpursell.com/weddings#!jig[1]/ML/24471 on mobile the link is in the same structure but does not show up.

Yes, it’s considered a custom link, just automatic. Therefore, the General tab’s Custom link’s target setting will apply, so try its options. You need that page’s content in the iframe of the lightbox?

“General settings > Custom link’s target” is already set to “Lightbox: video / iframe / different image”

And “Lightboxes > Lightbox type” is set to “Magnific Popup”

What is odd is that yesterday the linked portfolio pages opened in the popup. I am assuming I did something to the settings to stop this, but having gone over all the relevant settings, I can’t see anything wrong.

In the shortcode editor, recent posts tab, where are they set to link to?

Another common usage is to open just an image (project cover) in the lightbox, then put the link to the project page in its captions.

They are set to link to the post (i.e. “Click on a thumbnail links to > The post”)

But, “Use custom links” was set “No” when it should have been “Yes”. Made the change and now the post opens in the popup. A bit confusing, but it’s working now.

It seems that the pages will only open in Magnific Popup. Can they open in any of the other free ones? If not, is there a way to set the Magnific Popup dimensions? It seems unaffected by the “Maximum size for lightbox (the image will link to this size)” settings.

Yeah that setting was missing! The Maximum size for lightbox is only for image sizes, not the dimension of the lightbox when an iframe is in it. PrettyPhoto should open iframe content as well and has some default width/height controls in its JS settings on the Lightboxes tab of JIG. Sadly PhotoSwipe doesn’t support iframes.

Tried PrettyPhoto. It tries to open and then gives the following message in a dialogue box:

“Image cannot be loaded. Make sure the path is correct and image exists.”

Can this be resolved?

An intelligent popup would be ideal. Magnific Popup is small, but passable for desktop, but too small for mobile because it maintains the default landscape aspect ratio regardless of the device orientation. There is an example on the JIG web site where a Wikipedia article opens in FooBox. It automatically adjusts its aspect ratio to match the display’s. So, it is a large landscape popup on desktop and portrait in mobile when the phone is held vertically and landscape when phone held horizontally. It is perfect. Does JIG work with the free FooBox or only the premium?

So, did some digging and playing around, and found that this addition to Custom CSS makes Magnific Popup more flexible and palatable for my needs:

Magnific is probably your best bet. JIG site doesn’t use anything fancy for that, just the default settings. But many themes use Magnific and perhaps fixing a certain style on your version. Some others enhance it with cool animations too.

PrettyPhoto requires ?iframe=true at the end of each URL to recognize it as iframe. JIG adds that automatically in some cases, but Magnific is overall better.

That usage is fine, but the auto update system is not smart enough to detect it all. Let us know your domain and we’ll add an exception so you can update both.

PS – yes, I’m well aware the home page of photos.albj.net is not showing images, due to Flickr’s stupidity with an entire year of not fixing Collection thumbnails after the SmugMug acquisition. Hoping they return, unless I some day come up with a new way to present all my annual collections of albums.

Added your domain to exceptions, please try updating now. We can talk about that Flickr problem. If we don’t want to wait any further, there should be a way to at least show a (any) picture from that collection. Anything is better than the grey grid. First or random photo? If it’s collection in collection, that could also drill down and open subcollections until there is a photo.. Open to something like this for the next update!

I’m not sure if there are any images to retrieve for collections right now. The thumbnails simply aren’t being served from Flickr at all, even when viewing the collections page directly on Flickr’s site. Naturally I regard this as a problem on Flickr and not at all with JIG. Flickr claims the collection thumbnails are eventually returning. Just no timeline at all. And FWIW I do no have any nested collections. All of them are for individual years (with 2-3 exceptions of categories) with that year’s albums inside. The ability to manually choose one album in a collection (specifically the album’s thumbnail) as the thumbnail for the collection might be great, even better than the tiny mosaic thumbnails Flickr normally uses for collections. That may be a challenging feature, though.

I propose choosing the first contained image within to replace the mosaic. This needs no support from Flickr and JIG could acquire it (with small, but extra API calls into each collection).
