Hi! Will I be able to disable the javascript as a default? I prefer the snappiness/quickness of the CSS only version.
If yes, I noticed that with javascript disabled there are some alignment issues with the dropdown (tested this with firefox). Basically the drop downs move over to the right or don’t align directly under the nav bar. Will those alignment issues be correctable?
This is a great great piece of code. Good job!
THNX !
Hi Justin,
Thanks for your question and your interest!
By default the javascript is on. In the next version of UberMenu, there will be a control panel switch to disable it, but for now you’d just need to comment out 1 line of PHP code to remove the JS.
As for the CSS styling, the submenus are by default aligned to the left edge of the top level menu element. If you intend to use the menu with CSS only, you’ll just want to adjust the width and alignment of each sub menu (normally the JS would do this). All you’d need to do is add styles with width and left (or right) CSS parameters for individual menu item IDs. All styling is adjustable via CSS – the current implementation leaves things as flexible as possible in order to accommodate as many scenarios as possible, but you can always tweak things with precision if need be
I’ll look into expanding the ease of using UberMenu without JS for the upcoming release – including perhaps a simple “align right” option for individual menu items.
Hope that helps!
Chris
Great work. I love it. I recommend to anyone interested in taking their navigation menu to the next level. Can you help me get the menu to the proper position. It is right now on the left side of the header area and is overlapping my logo. I’m enclosing a screen capture below.
Hi ronmkraft,
Thanks for your comment and your purchase!
If you can send me a link to your site via my contact form I’ll take a look and see what CSS needs to be added. It’s possible that this simple style would do the trick, but you may need something more complicated (I’ll need to see your site so I can look at the code):
#megaMenu{
float:right;
}
Thanks!
Chris
I have been using CodeCanyon, ThemeForest and the rest of the Envato lineup for a while and have dealt with a wide range of products and product designers…Sevenspark is one of the best I have ever encountered as far as customer service goes (most important thing on Envato…a lot of stuff looks good but behaves differently after purchase) and the UberMenu plugin for Wordpress makes such a huge difference to the look, feel and user experience on your site. DEFINITELY PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE EVENT CONSIDERING IT !!!
Thanks so much for the review, Ron!
Can’t get the plugin to activate… trying to install on TwentyTen theme, latest version of Wordpress 3.0.5. I’m getting a Fatal Error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/content/b/g/d/bgdesign/html/bengiroux/home/wp-content/plugins/wp-uber-menu/wpMegaWalker.php on line 11
Deactivated all other plugins, re-uploaded the plugin—nothing seems to work. Please help!
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your purchase.
I just installed UberMenu on a fresh install of WP3 .0.5 with TwentyTen to test this out and it installed without any errors and is working properly. Did you make sure to follow the installation instructions that came with UberMenu (also available here: http://wpmegamenu.com/help/#MEGA-installation )?
The only other time I’ve seen an issue like that is when someone tried to edit through the WordPress plugin editor – it can strip characters and wreak havoc on the file. Also, sometimes FTP settings can screw up files during the transfer.
If you’ve followed those instructions and are sill having trouble, contact me via my contact form and I can install it for you myself if you’d like
Thanks!
Chris
Chris,
You dont use Skype by any chance do you?
I don’t currently use Skype for support, but if you contact me through my contact form we can start up an email chat which will be more efficient
Hi Chris,
Unfortunately its currently on a local host. But if I keep having issues I might have to put it online. I think we have worked out what is causing the issue. If I comment out the BG images script (even with cufon turned on) it seems to work. It looks like it clashes with jQuery. I might have to try and find a different BG Image script.
Worst problem when doing these types of sites – everything clashes with each other!
I’ll keep you posted on how i go.
Nola
Hi Nola,
Sometimes one javascript script throws an error, which keeps the other javascript from executing. That could be the issue you’re describing (BG images fails so UberMenu can’t execute).
I’ve done my best to follow WordPress coding standards so that UberMenu will “play nice” with others
But if you want to send me some info on plugins/themes via my contact form I can potentially recreate the scenario locally and see what’s causing the issues.
Let me know,
Chris
Hi there,
I have purchased this menu and I think its a great file. However I’m having some trouble with it.
The Hover trigger does not seem to be working for my mega menu? When I use the “click” trigger the menu will show – but the “hover” trigger does not? Personally I would rather use the “hover” feature as clicking a menu is not something a person would think to do.
Any help would be appreciated.
Im using wordpress 3.0.4 and the latest mega menu 1.0.3
Nola
Hi Nola,
Thanks for your purchase! I haven’t seen this before so I’ll need to look at it firsthand. Could you please contact me via my contact form and send me a link to your site (I may also end up needing temporary login credentials)? I’ll be happy to take a look for you
Thanks!
Chris
I’m just saying it’s a little buggy, I hover over the menu it drops you put the hair cursor in the field and when you tab to the next field OR try to put it in the next field the menu closes. I’m using a MacBookPro Leopard 10.6.6 Google Crome.
Interesting. I’ve tested it in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer 8 & 7, and Opera, on both Windows and Linux (Chome & Firefox), and I haven’t come across that issue. I’ll see if I can get my hands on a Mac at some point to take a look.
Thanks for your feedback,
Chris
Hi riaondemand,
I’ve checked this out and apparently Chrome can erroneously trigger a hover out event on form element focus for hover intent. Kinda strange but in any event I have implemented a solution for this situation. It has been updated on the test site and will be included in the next release of UberMenu. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Chris
Nice but doesn’t stay open when you try and enter text into the form.
Hi riaondemand,
Thanks for your comment. The sub menu stays open as long as you continue to hover over it (anywhere on the sub menu) with the mouse. Once you hover off the sub menu and the top level menu item, the sub menu closes. UberMenu uses jQuery HoverIntent, so even if you hover off and on again for a second by mistake, the menu will remain open.
Alternatively, you can set the sub menu trigger event to ‘click’ instead of ‘hover’. In this case, the sub menu will remain open until the top level menu item is clicked again.
Best,
Chris
Hi,
One of the best menu I ever use and well documented.
Cheers,
Gilles
Hi Gilles,
Thanks so much for your purchase and your comments! Glad you like it
Chris
Dam… Amazing peace of code!
Thanks!
Hi,
Work for me with a Wordpress 2.8 theme version, and Wordpress core 3.0.
Here the way : add in fonction.php
add_theme_support( ‘menus’ );
and in header.php
<?php wp_nav_menu( array( ‘sort_column’ ?> ‘menu_order’, ‘container_class’ => ‘menu-header’ ) ); ?>
And you can use.
Cheers,
Gilles
Hi Gilles,
Thanks for the comment! UberMenu can be used with any theme running on WordPress 3.0 – but it requires properly implemented menu support in the theme in order to work out of the box without any additional PHP coding. For anyone who’s looking for instructions on how to integrate UberMenu with themes that don’t support WP3 Menus, you can also check out the section in the help guide: http://wpmegamenu.com/help/#MEGA-add-wp3-menu-support
Thanks for pointing out how simple it is to get set up even with themes that don’t support WP3 Menus out of the box
Chris
I will probably buy this in the future… as long as the right project comes along. I really love the features of this plugin and hope to use it soon!
Thanks for your comment and your interest! I’m glad you like it!
I have installed this plugin, but have had to uninstall it. For some reason when activated, it gets rid of the “add featured image” option when I write a post. I have to be able to add a featured image via the WP option due to the way I structured the theme.
Any ideas why this option goes away when UberMenus is activated?
Hi weberm,
Thanks for your purchase! Sorry for the trouble – I discovered this problem can occur with certain themes and I’ve written a fix, which should be available soon. It might take some time to get through the queue (CodeCanyon needs to review all updates), however, so please feel free to contact me through my contact form and I’ll send you the new file immediately so that you won’t have to wait.
Thanks!
Chris
I just wanted to report back that this issue has been resolved in the latest version of UberMenu, v1.0.3. Thanks!
Chris
It does appear to be fixed! Thanks!
This menu looks pretty nice. Just two questions:
1. Is there an current marker state for the button? For example, if I am on a page or link rather in a sub-menu, will the root level navigation link retain a current marker css state? Does that make sense? For example, in your demo, if I was on the home page and I clicked on Flyout Menu > Item 1C, when the page loads, will the root level (in this case “Flyout Menu”) have a black background?
2. I noticed on single level menu items there was a gap (see Demo link in Black & Silver theme) below navigational elements with no submenu. Of course, if it has a submenu, it looks fine, but single level navigation links will have that odd gap. Is this fixable with some CSS or will some themes just have this? Some themes look ok, some themes it looks odd. You can see it on menu items with a submenu for a split second before the drop down happens.
Thanks!
Hi galfanodesign,
Thanks for your questions and your interest.
1. The current preset styles do not use a current marker state, however this would be very easy to implement as the CSS classes are already in place. You’d just need to apply styles to the appropriate class. In your example, you would have the following classes to choose from, depending on exactly what you’re going for:
.current-menu-ancestor
.current-menu-parent
.current_page_parent
.current_page_ancestor
I plan to add some new presets soon, at which point I’ll create some with current marker state styles as well.
2. The gap you’re referring to is just padding on the li elements, and can easily be set to 0 to remove it. Another option is to set the bottom left and right border-radius on the single level menu items like the top, which I think gives a better effect. All of those types of tweaks can be done using CSS (there is a style sheet for each preset that you can customize). There is also a Custom preset that you can use which makes it easy to create your own styles and still upgrade smoothly.
Hope that answers your questions!
Chris
Olá,
Can you help me?
The mouse hover works in the backoffice preview, but not working in front office!
Obrigado,
Greetings Obrigado,
You may have some plugin javascript that is interfering with UberMenu or something like that. Could you please send me a link to your site via the contact form on my profile page and I’ll take a look?
Thanks,
Chris
Haha sorry, just woke up. I read “Obrigado” as your name rather than “thanks”. Just realized my mistake, sorry about that
Hey Chris,
Thanks for solving the issue. Plugin is working beautifully.
If any one is considering this plugin, I highly recommend it, Chris helped me with my issue immediately and had it solved under an hour. Amazing!
Tyler
Thanks so much for the comment, Tyler! It was my pleasure.
I have added this plugin to my site and it was working great. then I added a contact form via the sidebar widgets. As soon as I enabled this under Appearances > Uber Menu > Number of Sidebars, The default sidebar in my theme disappears. If I set the Number of Sidebars back to 0, my theme’s sidebar reappears. How can I fix this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Tyler
Hi Tyler,
Thanks for your question. I received your email and just responded. I am looking into the issue currently and will get back to you as soon as I can with a solution.
Best,
Chris
SOLUTION : I just wanted to post back the results here for anyone who is interested. In a nutshell, the theme Tyler was using included sidebars via the dynamic_sidebar() function without specifying a sidebar ID. This results in the theme loading whichever sidebar was registered first, rather than a specific sidebar. Because the plugin hook runs before the theme hook, this meant that the theme’s sidebar was no longer the first registered sidebar, thus the “disappearing sidebar” effect.
I have implemented a solution which registers the UberMenu sidebars after the theme now, to accommodate for situations like this. It will be released in the next update (hopefully by the end of this week), but if anyone else is experiencing this issue and needs it resolved immediately, please contact me via my profile page and I will send you the update.
Thanks again for bringing this issue to my attention, Tyler!
Chris
I deleted the old plugin folder, loaded the new one; reactivated the plug and all was as before. Thanks
What’s the best way to update the plug? Since there’s not the usual plugin option ? If I just delete the old plug and drop the new one in by FTP will it still retain all the old settings from the topions ?
Yup! You can just replace the entire wp-uber-menu folder with the new version via FTP . All the settings are saved in the DB and won’t be affected. Just make sure you backup any files you’ve changed manually (for example, custom.css). Planning to post a more detailed upgrade guide soon hopefully
Chris
Really amazing plugin
Hope to see some more skins for download
Or even better custom contact form inside
5+
Thanks so much for your comment and your feedback! Very glad to hear you like it
I will likely release some new skins some time down the road. I did include some basic styling for use with the Contact Form 7 Plugin, which can include a contact form via shortcodes and widgets
