Hi!
I have a PS question:
I need a solution for a personal project. I am looking for a portfolio plugin to showcase students (a post or a gallery for each student) to display in a grid (with portfolios) in the frontage and with the possibility to filter students by categories (grades). Students belong to a location and a category (grade). I will display the “filter” on the top and the locations as pages in the menu as the category pages (6 categories)?
The plugin does allow me to create several portfolios (post types): one for each student and then when a visitor clicks in the the featured image in the portfolio frontpage/ grid that opens the portfolio (gallery) with +4 or +5 nice pictures (could have a small slider effect) and a small description (name/ age/ sports). The description could be below the portfolio or I can set up a slide for that.
Does I achieve that with this plugin?
The plugin does support a portflolio grid of around 8 or 10 rows with 2 or 3 items (portfolios) per row and one could be able to filter by category or tag.
I am a WP beginner/intermediate user. No skills in PHP. I tweak a little CSS and very basic HTML.
This is what I have in mind:
WP sidebar menu: Location A – Location B – Location C
Grids: rows of student albums (!) with each row having 2 columns, so 2 portfolio (student albums) per row.
Filter at the top: Category 1 – Category 2 – Category 3 – Category 4
Please note that each portfolio project must be able to contain 6 or 7 images.
I also have to set up feature image for each student portfolio for each student when a visitor clicks that feature image then that opens ( with popup effect if possible) the (album) with several photos of the same student. Ok? Locations could be set as pages or category pages to set up the menu and grades are categories or tags… So I can do a match with location and students….
The trick is to be able to upload several pictures in the same portfolio project to make an album…
Can I achieve that? What do you think?
If positive I buy it.
Thanks
Yes this is possible albeit it depends on the image source to manage portfolios.
Would you like it like the 2nd example here: http://justifiedgrid.com/nextgen-gallery-galleries/#/ each set opens without leaving the page?
Or like this? http://justifiedgrid.com/nextgen-gallery-albums/ each project opens on its own page?
If you use WP post types, then only the example on the second link is possible, using “recent posts” feature. A different page will open instead of the lightbox, and you can put anything there, e.g. a JIG gallery that does open the lightbox with the 6 or 7 images in your project.
Alternatively, with recent posts you can open the (1) featured image in the lightbox and have a link below it to go to the project’s page. Sorry I have no demo of this at the moment but will do.
Regarding categories and locations, you can add both as 2 level filtering to JIG, if you prefer. Why I don’t have a public demo of that yet is a mystery
1st row: Location A – Location B – Location C 2nd row: Category 1 – Category 2 – Category 3 – Category 4 Then the grid.
A filter row doesn’t change depending on what you select in the other row, currently so you can hit combinations that have no results in the grid, usually it’s no problem. This assumes you have some content for category 1-4 for any of the locations
Hi!
This one; 2nd example here: http://justifiedgrid.com/nextgen-gallery-galleries/#/ each set opens without leaving the page
And I only need a filter on the top page for the locations… No need other filter for grades.
But need many rows… 2 album sets per row…. at least 10 or 12 rows.
What do you think?
It’s not possible in that case, due to the filtering requirement. The example is with NextGEN but it does not allow tagging albums or galleries, only pictures.
WP image source does not have the concept of albums->galleries so it would only work like the other example where you leave the page to open each project.
Many rows is not a problem.
Hi, I purchased and used this plugin for a client’s site. She deleted all the images in her media library and re-uploaded them at smaller sizes. She then deleted all her galleries. She went to add new galleries with the smaller images, and for some reason, the new galleries she made are showing duplicate images, and some of the images she’s put in the galleries are not showing up, and some galleries are showing images that she didn’t put in them. Please help!!!
Her site is: gillianclaire.com/blog
I have it set up so that any gallery she makes will be a JIG, so she is not putting the shortcodes in herself, she is just making a gallery like normal through Wordpress’s gallery settings.
I can’t tell whether or not she intended to place a certain image into the gallery. The delete and reupload wasn’t a best practice though. It should have nothing to do with the mixup. I see an image that is distorted while she is using jetpack photon. When she resized did she also crop some?
Purge the cache in “External image caching time” setting of the timthumb & CDN tab of JIG.
If you have it on “take-over” then check the WP gallery shortcodes on the text tab of the editor if they look all right or weird.
Hi, purged the cache, but everything still looks the same. The gallery shortcode on the page looks like this: [gallery ids=”231,230,247,242,249,229,232,244,228,262,234,237,243”]
Would it be possible for you to log in and take a look?
Yes, contact me from my profile!
Thank you so much, just emailed you!
Got it I’ll reply there.
I use JIG with NextGallery and Social Gallery. I need the captions to stay visible on the thumbnails, none of the options work. They are there for a second and then disappear. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Social Gallery disables them, there is a setting called “social overlay” “Show Social Stats overlay on JiG” in Social gallery which is enabled by default. Turn that off.
Thank you! That did the trick!
No problem!
Hallo Firsh, YOU ARE A GENIUS! It works like a charm. Great work. Thank you very much i appreciate your work and wish you all the best, your a great guy! Thank you! Regards Mario
Thanks!
Hi,
I really like the plugin!
There’s only one small problem: the share icons below the image are showing up sliced. Can you help me with this?
See the gallery: http://brincandonojardim.com.br/galleries/brincado-no-jardim-fotos
Thanks,
Arnaldo
Your theme is already loading a CSS file for prettyPhoto which could interfere:
http://brincandonojardim.com.br/wp-content/themes/wp_acoustic5/css/prettyPhoto.css?ver=4.0.1Can you prevent this from loading or disable prettyPhoto in the theme?
line 101
iframe { padding-bottom: 15px; }
This rule slices the social buttons, apparently.
Thanks for the quick reply! This problem is solved!
Now I noticed another instability: sometimes when I click on the icon “share” of the FB, only the text appears without the image. We can work on it?
I put an example: http://brincandonojardim.com.br/imagens_compartilhadas/image-grid-problem.jpg
The gallery: http://brincandonojardim.com.br/galleries/brincado-no-jardim-fotos
In JIG settings lightboxes tab set prettyPhoto deeplinking to smart deeplinking. Other than that it’s Facebook’s responsibility to create an image in time, JIG already supplies the information. Also the connection between your server and the Facebook bot can be slow there is not much you can do about it. Or your server is serving the image too slowly to Facebook or Facebook’s thumbnail generator script is overloaded at that moment. Usually when shared later the picture could show up.
Ok, Firsh. Thanks!
One more little thing, Firsh. The “share” button (“compartilhar”, in Portuguese) is sliced before the end of the word on the right margin and the number of shares not appear too. Can we fix it? Thanks.
It’s in the language you use for Facebook. For me it’s in english. Add this to Custom CSS of JIG settings general tab:
.pp_details .pp_social .jig_pp_facebook{ min-width:200px; }
Should let more of the Facebook button to be seen. Increase the number if preferred.
The site would be faster for non brazil visitors if you used a CDN like the free CloudFlare.
I copied and pasted your code, increasing the number of 300px, but unfortunately the problem remains.
Ok then you also need to do this:
Open jquery.prettyphoto.custom-min.js in JIG’s js folder.
Do a Find for 135px and replace it with 300px there is only one occurrence.
Problem solved, Firsh! Thank you very much for your attention and quick responses!
No problem
Hi
How can I show the title or caption always visible, instead of on rollover? I am using Next Gen gallery with Justified Image Grid
Thanks
Edwin
Yes of course, set “captions” tab “caption style” setting to “fixed”.
I have a weird one for you.. I use JIG (love it by the way) to show the recent posts for our site. Is there a way that i can have single images that are not linked to a post get mixed into the recent posts grid, say an image that links to an advertisers website? Is this possible? if you want to see how we’ve used JIG: www.eatgeekplay.com
Yes sure, it would still be a recent posts entry so you’d need to put an article behind it (can be empty). The caption and other data on the thumbnail would be derived from this fake article. Add a custom link to the featured image, then enable “use custom links” in the recent posts settings. Among your true recent posts there will be a thumbnail that links to your advertiser page.
Great usage, I like the custom overlay icon
and the vertically centered allcaps captions! I’d add a white glow around the overlay icon to make it stand out on dark thumbnails. Would you like to be featured?
I would love to featured!! That would be great!!
Got the post to work! Thank you!! question: when I use the JIG Taget you can set a lightbox for the image. Is there any way to have the lightbox display the image description in the lightbox?
I can add your site to http://justifiedgrid.com/see-it-in-action/ (It’ll look better once I finish redoing the site).
JIG target with the lightbox option is just that, your link opening in the lightbox’s iframe. The image’s metadata is not pulled to that. But the “fake” posts’s data IS. Add the desired text as content of the fake post.
Since you are showing only “title” and no “description” (any of the 3 possible slots), you could utilize this to your advantage.
Use recents_description setting to pull the data from your fake post (auto excerpt), but turn off captions tab, “caption field” setting.
The core of that shortcode would be:
[justified_image_grid recent_posts=yes recents_description=auto_excerpt recents_custom_links=yes caption_field=off]
Your text would only be seen in the lightbox.
Great!! That worked!! another question.. Can I make the text in the lighbox hyperlinked? my other use is to use the lightbox to showcase art, but would like to link to the artists website. Take a look at the main page the one that says “Fan Art Of The Day” the text in the light box has HTML links in the content of the post, but the links do not show up in the lightbox.
The auto excerpt mechanism removes the HTML tags. Only if you are using posts, then you have the “excerpt” field below the editor. Add your links there and switch the JIG shortcode to be:
[justified_image_grid caption_field=off recent_posts=yes recents_description=manual_excerpt post_ids=12402 recents_custom_links=yes]
The change is recents_description=manual_excerpt from auto to manual. That does not strip the HTML links.
Hi..
Thanks for this plugin !
How can i hide the sharing options on social media for the photos?
Best regards
Lightboxes tab, prettyphoto social setting.
Yes Sir, Thank you so much !
No problem!
Hi Firsh, thanks for the plug-in, so far working great! I’m just wondering:
1. Is there an easy way to add a frame to each image? I’m not sure whether there’s a pure CSS solution, since you’d need to take the frame size into account when aligning the images? Btw, a simple rectangular frame based on ‘padding’ or similar property would be fine.
2. I read that there’s some security problem with TimThumb and you plan to use a modified version – what’s the status of this?
Thanks, Jiri
1. Yes it’s 3 differnt type of borders on the overlays tab. http://justifiedgrid.com/unlimited-colors/ 3rd example and http://justifiedgrid.com/preset-15-borders-and-shadow/
2. It doesn’t have any security problem and I keep unnecessary services disabled. I’m yet to slim it down.
Ohh, sorry for a dumb question, completely missed these border options…
No problem
Hey Firsh! Thank you again for this incredible plugin!
A few questions about JIG if you have the time.
1. I noticed that attachments require the post_status “inherit” in order to display. Is there a way to include displaying attachments on the ‘publish’ status or any other status? The plugin I’ve written handles attachments more like posts and publishes them and they do not have parents. (Actually, looking at line 8,929, it seems only ‘inherit’ is accepted. Answered my own question! It seems I’ll have to change this line and the one a little below it.) I’ll leave this as a feature suggestion.
2. Does JIG rely on any of WP’s generated thumbnails at any point when using TimThumb? I’ve completely shut off WP’s thumbnail generation as it’s not needed in my case – unless JIG requires it. Just want to make sure this won’t cause JIG issues.
3. When using a mobile device (namely an iPhone 4) Foobox doesn’t appear to be used when selected. Unless Foobox looks and works totally different on a mobile device! (I’m not even sure if this is the iphone’s doing) Here’s what it looks like: http://i.imgur.com/V2B9d9T.jpg Any clue what that lightbox is?
Thanks! I greatly, greatly appreciate your help!
1. Don’t they get “publish” status if they don’t have a parent? Inherit is just a type to specify in the wp query. Most images in the library don’t have a parent. Is it not working for you? This hasn’t been a problem for anyone yet.
2. No you can turn off any WP image size, it’ll have no negative effect. I disable all of the sizes my theme generates and the “large” image size because it creates a larger filesize image that is smaller than my web optimized higher resolution ones..
3.That’s photoswipe, the default mobile lightbox. Are you using a preset in the shortcode? Then choose foobox for mobile in the shortcode too.
1. Wordpress doesn’t set the physical post_status of attachments with no parents to publish, but instead they “inherit” the publish status magically (they are simply included in the results when they have no parents and have the inherit status). So the status in the database still has to be set to ‘inherit’ in order for the image to show up in JIG. In my case, I’m physically setting the post_status of attachments to publish, as I need to differentiate between statuses as if attachments were more like posts. My situation is somewhat out of the ordinary, so I don’t mind having to make the edit.
I’ve just changed it to ‘post_status’ => ‘any’ as I’m filtering the IDs myself, but ‘post_status’ => array(‘inherit’, ‘publish’) would work too.
2. Awesome! I’m really glad that’s the case. And that’s pretty funny too. On that note – would it be possible to use the timthumb thumbnails that JIG generates elsewhere on the site via getting them somehow? Or even trigger the creation of one via a function call to JIG? It’d be great if I could just reuse those thumbnail images outside of JIG via some kind of function call and avoid WP thumbnail generation all together.
3. Mobile Lightbox! I missed that in the docs! Thank you!
1. It was set to ‘publish’ in the past, but if I remember correctly that spawned a problem when somebody created a draft, and added images to it. The images were “published” and found by the query while the post wasn’t yet public. I could work with you on this to find a universal solution that would work for everyone including you.
2. You can make use / re-use of them if you copy their address, or create any size thumbnails with it. JIG doesn’t have a thumbnail creation public function. Interesting that you like this solution better than WP thumbnail generation. It’s usually the other way around.
3. Look up preset authority as well if you use presets and wish to globally change lightboxes.
Sure! I’ve tested the draft bug and here are the results. First, here’s what I did:
I created a new post, inserted two images into it. Saved as draft. Checked the DB- the post has the ‘draft’ status and the attachments have ‘inherit’. I then took the attachment IDs and inserted the IDs into the JIG shortcode.
Set ‘post_status’ => ‘publish’ Result : Draft images do not show up
Set ‘post_status’ => array(‘inherit’, ‘publish’) Result: Draft images show up!
Set ‘post_status’ => ‘inherit’ Result: Draft images show up!
It seems wp query is not actually doing any kind of check on parents and is only getting attachments that literally have the string ‘inherit’ in their status field. It appears the status of the parent post doesn’t matter at all; I’ve set the parent post to private and the images still show up.
I guess I assumed from the word ‘inherit’ that it would actually… inherit!
So that means JIG is only getting images that literally have the word ‘inherit’ in their post_status. As wordpress doesn’t ever set an attachment’s status to anything other than inherit, that works with all JIG users except those who use plugins that change the status of attachments themselves.
The best solution that comes to mind would be to add a post_status to the shortcode, allowing the user to set the post_status or statuses they want, otherwise default to ‘inherit’.
Let me know what you think, and if you find similar results! Maybe I’ve missed something.
Here’s my shortcode for reference: $jig = “[justified_image_grid ” . “preset=4 ” . “lightbox=foobox ” . “mobile_lightbox=foobox ” . “caption=fade ” . “caption_field=alternate ” . “caption_align=center ” . “row_height=275 ” . “thumbs_spacing=0 ” . “allow_animated_gifs=yes ” . “disable_mobile_hover=no ” . “orderby=custom ” . “load_more=scroll ” . “ids=$ids ]”;
As for #2, the reasoning is that if JIG/TimThumb has already generated a thumbnail, I might as well use that one instead of generating a duplicate one via WP to use outside of JIG. I’d be doubling processing time and required storage for each thumbnail. Being able to say “Hey JIG! Do you have a timthumb url for attachment 97?” or have JIG store the URL in the DB would be really useful. But I realize that might not be possible, as they’re generated dynamically and in the case of random_width with a seed. But maybe I could add a line of code that would take the URL and insert it into the database for later use?
I’ve noticed that on ThemeForest that themes that use TimThumb are not allowed. I’m guessing this was a reaction to the security hole that was found a while back but has since been fixed. So I’m curious why you have chosen TimThumb over WP’s image generation which can use ImageMagik or other libraries for example? Is TimThumb Faster? Higher Quality? Smaller footprint? Caching?
Thanks again
For #1 what do you suggest, should I change the post status in the plugin or leave it alone? I could add a new setting no problem, but not sure how useful it would be for others.
nr2. I’ll write an article about that. The primary reason is using images from anywhere. Other solutions can’t resize offsite images and JIG is dependant on using images from Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, RSS etc. Furthermore the size that is needed is very dynamic, e.g. you change row height or row height deviation, it’ll need a different size. If someone visits from mobile devices, again new sizes will be created to match the resolution of the device, at the appropriate quality level. I don’t believe other solutions would be happy with this kind of on-demand usage. Yes there rule is there for themes only and also for themes there is no reason to use timthumb at all, evertything a theme needs can be done with predefined image sizes with built in WP tools.
Yes random width does use a seed, nice catch
Image sizes change, I don’t think it would be meaningful to keep thumbnail URLs in a database. TT generates whatever sizes you throw at it anyway. Its cache is cleared sometimes, e.g. at updating the plugin. I also like to keep things separate from the wp uploads folder and not clutter that directory at least not its root. There is nothing worse than if you decide to discontinue using a plugin and you need to manually clean up after it in various folders on the FTP.
There’s two solutions:
A ) Make it a setting where the user can set what post types they want and just default to inherit. You’re right this would rarely be used – and it may even confuse users who aren’t aware that attachments are never assigned post types by Wordpress.
B ) Instead of ‘inherit’ use ‘any’. There is only one difference between the two – ‘any’ will pick up attachments that have had their post_status altered by a plugin, whereas inherit will not. Both ‘inherit’ and ‘any’ will still get all attachments, regardless of the status of their post parent. The only visible difference would be seen in special case plugin users. In my case I’ve set it to ‘any’ as now I can get attachments with any kind of custom status which is super useful.
The only downside to using B, is that if in the off chance a user using a custom post_status altering plugin (and I don’t know of any off hand aside from the one I wrote so I might be splitting hairs here) doesn’t manually get the IDs via a query outside of JIG, it would show attachments that have been set to pending or draft or anything else the custom plugin set them to. But I imagine the custom plugin would handle the ‘publish’ check itself in order to get the IDs… so I think this problem would be a super rare case. Changing it to ‘any’ would appear to be the best method.
2. Makes sense! I hadn’t considered external sites. Seems like a good solution. And yes, I was really glad to find the data in the plugins folder! I might play around with storing temporary urls in memory or in the DB to make use of the existing cache at some point and see if it helps. I’m interested in seeing how TimThumb will perform under high load – I’ll have several million images being accessed by hundreds of thousands of users so it should be interesting to see how this scales!
If I make any more modifications to JIG or find anything useful I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks again for all your help!
A. I’d rather not create a setting just for this. Creating a setting is easy, demonstrating what it does and minimizing clutter is not.
B. Is “any” an official value of some kind?
It’s weird that “inherit” doesn’t work as intended . I’ll do my own checks as well before changing anything.
I also have it on the todo to add actions and filters so you could change some tech aspects. Like entire queries or similar just by adding your custom functions to the (child) theme’s functions.php. So when JIG gets updated you wouldn’t lose the changes.
2. If you know what row height + deviation you generally use, and the thumbnail quality, then you can create a function to make educated guesses of what the JIG + TT image urls would be.
Ouch, what is your source of images and what niche is your site? If it’s private I’d love to check it out if you contact me from my profile.
A. My thoughts exactly!
B. Yep, see here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query#Status_Parameters What’s nice is that it doesn’t include trash or auto-drafts.
And definitely double check everything I’ve done. I’ve written a lot of custom code and I’d be interested to know if that’s how it’s supposed to work or if I’ve tripped something up.
The actions and filters sound cool! I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
2. Cool! Thanks!
The source of images is all internal attachments uploaded by users. It’s not quite ready to be checked out just yet (I’m currently testing the insertion of dynamic caption content into Foobox and everything is broken at the moment! XD) but I promise to send you a message through your profile once it’s a bit more ready.
Thanks again for all your help!
Hi, I kept this thread open
So I added ‘any’ instead of ‘inherit’ and you’ll have that in the next version.
Action and filter hooks are yet to be included, it requires more time to decide where they might be useful.
Their lightbox CSS overrides yours it seems … and the image is ridiculously small : http://www.lumeo.fr/project/portfolio-general/
I love your version of the prettyphoto lightbox (share button and the rest.) It’s much better that the theme’s. I wish it was the contrary (your version overriding anything else …) Thanks for any suggestion.
You can alter the image size in JIG, lightboxes tab, max size in lightbox set it to Full. But isn’t your uploaded image this small by default?
JIG is not supposed to take over your theme’s services so it’s the way it works. Normally you should be able to disable or remove prettyPhoto from the theme. The problem is that they just created css rules for it in this file: http://www.lumeo.fr/wp-content/themes/dt-the7/css/main.min.css?ver=4.4.5 probably spread across various lines.
Thanks !
” But isn’t your uploaded image this small by default?”
You’re right (as usual) ... i uploaded the wrong folder, the one with the small images. sorry.
Great!
I edited my reply above, thanks for answering me, I apologize, too many windows open, got confused as to where I was at.
I also figured it out, thanks anyway! I have never used this plugin jig yet, I bought it some time ago, but now that I had this issue, I will try it out soon on something else I will be creating soon. Loves trying new things and yours shall be next on my list. I often buy things that look promising before Envato jacks the prices on them and then forgets I have them until a need arises
It’s great that you did
Let me know if you have any questions.
what is the email i should write to unbind my license of jig and have only one site and automatic updates. i used jug on test domain before implementing it.
I reset your license!
Can I make my gallery images searchable by visitors? In other words, if they type the name of an image in a search bar, will it show up?
What is your image source? With NextGEN or WP I believe it’s possible, but with other sources no.
Awesome Gallery
shucks, awesome gallery has the nextgen capability, but I have 330 images that are only using the actual Awesome Gallery
EDIT:,
sorry, thought this was a reply from Awesome Gallery plugin.
I have purchased both.
I have not installed yours yet, was just wondering.
I will install yours and nextgen and then see if it works.
BTW, since I am at the moment only testing, do I have to input the license just yet? What if it does not do the search and I want to use it later on after uninstalling it?
I can reset the license any time you wish.
ok thanks so much!
No problem.
Hi. I’m using an events plugin, and I had the idea of using JIG to display its posts. The trick I’m interested in is how to use a field in a cpt to order the posts? The plugin creates a taxonomy term for Events, and JIG can see it, but I would like to both display the Date in the Description and order by date. 1. Can you suggest how to display a custom field in the Description line? 2. ...how to order images by a custom date field? 3. Are you interested in providing this as a one-off development? I couldn’t find your fee in your profile? Thanks
Normally you can’t order based on custom things, this could be a feature though.
Recents description line 2 custom field:
[justified_image_grid recent_posts=yes recents_description_2=custom_post_metadata post_metadata_fields=YOUR_FIELD_NAME recents_post_type=EVENT_POST_TYPE]
You may need to add a _ before the field name, if it’s a hidden field.
To order by custom field, the query would need to be modified with
‘orderby’ => ‘field_name’,
I think. Contact me if you wish to find out more.
Hi, thank you! This works nicely. One thing I forgot is that I also want to exclude posts if the date field<today. Also, this date field is in UTC, but I need to subtract 5 for my timezone. I do this in a report like this DATE(DATE_SUB(CURDATE(), INTERVAL -5 HOUR
I spoke to soon. I should have mentioned that my custom field is not in the posts table. The field is on a table which can directly be joined to the posts table. (they share the ID, so that evt_id=wp_posts.ID)
JIG has a date range query setting, where you’d set the last x days to your use.
How is your custom field not being in the posts table related to the problem?
I thought the table was the issue, because I’m not able to display the custom field in the caption. I can’t tell exactly how it’s sorting either, when I add that parameter, though it does resort. To be clear, I need to sort by the custom field date, on a range from today (in EST)->, while the custom field date is in utc.
Does your event plugin already have a way of displaying your content according to your needs, without JIG? In the order you wish, and with the criteria you need regarding date?
Because if all else fails you could hijack the post IDs from a loop of that plugin and funnel it into JIG’s post_ids setting.
[justified_image_grid recent_posts=yes recents_post_type=EVENT_POST_TYPE post_ids=1,2,3] Which you can create a PHP template tag out of and place it in your plugin, where it would usually display the events in a non-JIG format.
hi again. I’m actually making some progress with this. But I’m not able to display my event date field with custom post metadata. The field is not on a wp core table, it’s on a plugin table. Like plugin_table_1.event_date I tried a few variations on that with a leading underscore.
If it’s not a native WP thing the JIG is not able to pick it up. You need custom coding for that. If you know how to access the field I can tell you where to add it in the code.
Have sent an email regarding “Justified Image Grid: The Facebook content cannot be displayed, the error from Facebook: Generic Facebook error” Any update? Regards
I’ll process it soon!
I get the message: No pictures in any album.
I’ve confirmed all other settings and there are several albums on this account.
Do you have version v2.3.1?
Yes, I am on v2.3.1
Any updates?
Have you tried setting “ssl verify peer” to no, in the general settings? Scroll down for it.
Tried that, and it didn’t work
Any other ideas??
Contact me from my profile I’ll check it out for you.
Hi Firsh, I’ve emailed you the details. Can you please follow up? Thank you
Hi I’ve replied to that on nov20:
I can add other pages properly, e.g. taylorswift. So it’s not a problem with your server. It appears that I can’t add myself as a user, have you followed the app creation steps pointed out on the Facebook tab? Try creating a new app, closely following the instructions. Try adding your user profile first, see if that goes through.
Otherwise it could be that your page is not public enough.
E.g. try to open this in a browser where you are not logged in to Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/1826**** (your facebook page URL instead of *)vs
https://www.facebook.com/TaylorSwiftA public page should be visible even without logging in.
If you have any restrictions on the page, you should add a user profile to JIG first.
It was the privacy settings. Because it is a bar/restaurant, the age restriction was set to 21 and up. We just removed it. Thanks for the follow up Firsh! resolved.
If you add a user who is over 21 and then add the page it should connect through that user. Maybe they’ve changed it, but age restriction alone shouldn’t be a problem, I’ll check this out.
Licensing problem. I built the site on a sub-domain au.fitfathers.com and its now pointing to AutomotiveRythms.com, however it is the same site. I get the following message when trying to update automatically:
“Automatic update error! This purchase code has already been used on another domain! You need one regular license for each different end product. You can setup your staging area on the same domain to have autoupdates on both installations. Contact JIG support to unbind your license from the other domain.”.
How do I fix this.
Thanks
Morag Reid
I reset the license. It’s limited to 1 host at a time.
Hi Firsh, Is there a way to reference an existing JIG gallery on another page, showing only the filter buttons at first (with no thumbnails initially), so the buttons function as a menu?
I hope this description makes sense. I’m going to word the same question again below to hopefully illustrate what we need. Let me know if you need more info.
My client would like the filter buttons from the main gallery to appear at the top of each page that is contained in the gallery, the filter buttons would function as a menu for the user to use so they don’t have to hit the back button or link to get back to the whole gallery.
Thanks!
You can’t show a JIG gallery of another page anywhere else but you can copy the shortcode to create a copy.
Perhaps you need a tabs solution and put JIG into that? The filtering buttons can’t be separated from JIG and it’ll only filter the thumbnails. You can hide the “all” button so upon page load the first button is active.
Hope I understood correctly.
I didn’t think it would be possible but thought I should check just in case, my client really wanted it.
It would be nice to be able to have a reference copy of a JIG gallery on another page, sidebar, or widget area etc… that would be updated when the original JIG gallery was updated. Perhaps if each JIG gallery had a unique ID, there could be a shortcode for this feature. Maybe this could be a feature sometime in the future?
Can you provide more info on how the tabs solution would work?
Thank you!
I haven’t though of that, but why would you need to copy a gallery? If you need the same thing displayed across multiple pages then you can put it into PHP template tag and add it to the theme instead.
Tabs: perhaps your theme has tabs, if not then you could find a free tabs plugin. Then put JIG instanced in tab contents.
http://justifiedgrid.com/responsive/Last example. It’s a bit similar to filtering. That’s why it popped to my mind.
Using a shortcode to reference an existing gallery but then being able to edit the appearance of each instance such as thumbnail size, filtering etc, would allow me to show our one main 80 project JIG pages gallery in multiple places, but with a different appearance for each instance such as small thumbnails in a sidebar. Being able to show it as a list would be nice as well but I don’t think that’s a current JIG option.
I’ve not yet used tabs, so will have to experiment to see if they can be used in our situation.
Thanks!
I still don’t fully understand why would you show the same content in multiple galleries. Perhaps you are looking for custom presets? They have an ID you can centrally control and update multiple JIGs at the same time (except their image sources).
One version could have huge thumbnails of page featured images and be a beautiful gallery and another instance could be like a menu or list available in a sidebar of the homepage (for instance).
Well then if you attach images to a post (upload when editing it), you can reference to that post by ID in the shortcode and it’ll pull that posts’s / gallery’s pictures.
Thanks, but that’s not what we are trying to accomplish. We need a menu of our JIG gallery of featured images. Each featured image represents a page, we need a menu or list or catalog of all the pages. We are looking for an automatic way of making a nice looking menu, list or a reduced catalog in addition to the large display of the featured images. The page with the large JIG thumbnails is beautiful to look at, but it can be difficult to navigate in a hurry.
Ok then use the “recent posts” feature. It can pull posts/pages/etc by the featured images and act much like a menu.
I hadn’t thought of that, even though that is how the “original” JIG gallery was made that I want to duplicate! I think that would work! All I need now is a way to change the appearance of the additional JIG gallery into more of a list or menu rather than a gallery, perhaps a list with small thumbnails. I haven’t attempted to use any custom CSS with JIG and not sure I want to try with such a complex plugin. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe I should just not bother you with this and find a list plugin! JIG after all is a gallery plugin! Do you have any suggestions for list or menu plugins?
Also….. for a slightly different use of JIG but for this same gallery…. Is there a way to just show the filter buttons without any thumbnails initially? I don’t want any thumbnails to show or load initially, the filter buttons will just be there like a menu.
You can certainly decrease row height to 20-50 pixels or any low value. If you wish to put the thumbnails below each other and not as a row then you could limit the width of the gallery using custom width settings. There is no need to use Custom CSS for any of this.
I use JIG for “silo” site where there are parent pages that are index pages of several children. JIG can take the parent page’s id and show all children (you can define how many levels should it drill down in the tree).
I believe there is a workaround to show anything. The only case when filtering shows empty gallery is when you are using 2 level filtering and there is no match for a certain combination of terms between the two levels.
Guess you could add level 1 with “all” button disabled, and only 1 term to filter by. This filter term would get selected automatically (you could hide the first level filtering with CSS).
Then on the second level formulate your real filtering but for the first term add something that conflicts with the first level so nothing will be shown. Again disable all button for 2nd level too, and could probably hide the first term as well.
I admit I need to read the JIG manual much more thoroughly overall and now especially as it applies to this filtering discussion. I believe that I saw a place to edit a couple of the filter buttons CSS properties, but now I can’t find it though it is mentioned in the JIG pdf manual, but doesn’t seem to specify where to find the properties. Where can I edit the JIG CSS safely? Do you have a place to edit CSS built-in or do I use an external CSS file, such as the WP theme CSS file.
So far, I am confused by your description of the 2 level filtering to achieve a starting blank state.
I want to point out that normally, such as with HTML websites and even with most WP websites, most pages have a unique URL to link to when creating a menu. The pages of JIG that are filtered do not have a unique URL, so there is nothing to link to if I wanted to make my own menu. That is why I need to create a menu through JIG.
Thanks!
Filter button CSS is in the JIG settings FIltering tab (not the shortcode editor).
JIG filtering doesn’t have “deeplinking” that’s why you can’t link to them. They are not supposed to be used as a menu. It’s the same way tabs plugins (any that I’ve seen) don’t have deeplinking either.
hi firsh. how can i open single images in the JIG by default?
example: https://www.blackpaper.ch/fashion_accessoires/paul-mitchell-an-der-mbfdz-60331/
That’s not a feature sorry. You can add single images to JIG, but it can only take over galleries.
