Hi
I am trying to get the grip of how to use this plugin, and now for some reason I can’t see any thumbnails, even though they are there. Do you have any idea where to turn?
http://marilynscloset.dk/outfit-of-the-day/Thx Claus
There is a CSS error in your theme.
http://marilynscloset.dk/wp-content/themes/childtheme100712/style.cssLine 16. The CSS ‘reset’ resets the elements to a white background that gives the JIG border effect a white background, covering the picture .
You need to add this to JIG General settings -> Custom CSS:
.jig-border, .jig-overlay-wrapper, .jig-caption-title, .jig-caption-wrapper { background: none !important; }
Thx Firsh, You are the boss
Great
Well, I’ve bought this plugin and I’ve had a couple of days to get used to it on my test server. What a great product! I’ll wand to post more here about what I like about in the near future.
One question though:
I ran into an issue in the install dealing with permissions. The issue came up with my test server and my real web site. I didn’t understand the instructions in the documentation about what to set permissions at, and for which files. I go to the TimThumb tab and click the link that’s supposed to check this, and it tells me what the permissions are set at, but not what they’re supposed to be. Everything works with permissions set to 0777, but of course I don’t want to leave it this way for the real site.
If your real site is hosted on a proper server you likely won’t need to use 777. If you still do then there is no problem if the parent directory is not 777. You can use Jetpack Photon instead of Timthumb or just disable it if you really want to. 755 permissions are usually enough by the way.
It seems to work if I set the entire plugin to 755 except the cache directory, which need to be at 777 for some reason. I’ll check out JetPack today. It’s got some other features I’m interested in anyway.
Where do you rate this plugin? I’ve been itching to write a 5 star review somewhere and I can’t find it anywhere on CodeCanyon.
Jetpack should be good for you.
You can just leave a review here, I’ll copy it to the preview site’s testimonials area(s). I may get a 3rd party rating service in the future. Until then the comments are fine. Star rating can be given on the downloads page of your account.
I’ll keep plugin active a bit now for you to see, then I must deactivate, as it also deactivates EXIF display (mentioned in another thread).
Sorry your 3rd party EXIF display may not be compatible with JIG. I didn’t catch my plugin on this link now.
The URI I provided is not generated with JIG – it’s theme based (woo), but it’s been modified by JIG. When JIG is deactivated the content is displayed normally again. This URI does not display EXIF – it’s done in the post display.
See other thread.
I use EXIF, which is displayed when I mouse over images in my posts.
This plugin disables this, so for now I’ve had to disable the plugin.
Please advise.
JIG doesn’t have any EXIF capabilities yet. JIG doesn’t disable it, it simply does not have that feature. How did you want to connect a 3rd party plugin into it? Perhaps a plugin that adds EXIF to the image fields in WP/NextGEN would be appropriate.
JIG definitely disables, as I have EXIF for all images after I disable JIG.
You can check how it works by opening any post, and hover your mouse over the image. You’ll see the EXIF displayed to the left.
When JIG is active this data is no longer displayed.
I don’t want any EXIF added to JIG, simply to be able to have JIG active and display EXIF as normal.
Please note that JIG builds up the images on its own entirely and it inherits nothing from other plugins that may have worked with the regular WP gallery. How do you display EXIF, what plugin is it? If you’d like to see EXIF for images of JIG, you need EXIF support in JIG, 3rd party plugins won’t be able to work with it.
I do not want EXIF through JIG, only in posts as they were prior to activating JIG. With JIG this is not possible as JIG overrides it.
I have deactivated JIG now, so you can see how EXIF is displayed in posts – like this one: http://www.ross.no/communicate/2011/08/03/hoppeedderkopp-aellurius-v-insignitus/What happens if you do not insert the image with JIG but just activate it silently in the background? If this EXIF thing fails without doing anything else, then its script may require an old jQuery or is conflicting with something from JIG. Please re-activate JIG and I’ll check if there is any JS error in the page.
Anyhow sorry it’s not compatible with JIG. The EXIF data is placed after the image in an unordered list (by you manually, or by a plugin?) and styled to be on the left side of the page via CSS. You’d need to hook your custom show/hide exif function to the mouse over/out of JIG elements and pair them with each picture. I plan on adding native exif functionality some day, to JIG.
I see you got http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.2/jquery.min.js?ver=1.6.2 jQuery v1.6.2 which is too old for JIG. If you set up a newer one that then could be too new for your site and the exif magic. The problem can be sorted out though.
These posts do not have any JIG elements in them, it fails just after activating JIG
Did you open the URI and move your mouse over the image? Then you have seen how it is working when JIG plugin is not active.
When plugin is activated this is immediately disabled. Without any JIG elements on the post.
I saw how it was working not I understand
Is it enough to change URI in just functions.php?
No, leave it as it is, re-enable JIG and will check for an error message.
JIG reactivated now
It still works for me at http://www.ross.no/communicate/2011/08/03/hoppeedderkopp-aellurius-v-insignitus/
It will only work in Chrome and Firefox, not in IE 9 or Opera 17
Ok the GD star rating plugin wants and old jQuery but the new jQuery version miss a function it needs.
SCRIPT5007: Unable to get property ‘msie’ of undefined or null reference gdsr.js, line 1 character 4594
http://www.ross.no/communicate/wp-content/plugins/gd-star-rating/js/gdsr.js?ver=1.9.22jQuery has removed $.browser some time ago, this is what you are running into.
Try to disable the plugin (or update it). And you can also try the jQuery source settings in JIG (any but the new jQuery options).
Thanks!
I will update jQuery references as none of the JIG settings on jQuery source settings are optimal with current jQuery references.
Okay!
Hi
As I am having issues with my instagram plugin I wondered if I’d be able to achieve the following using JIG (and social gallery)?
Load x numbers of the last images, Have the thumbnail be 250px wide, Display them in a slideshow placed in the sidebar, Have a lightbox pop out when clicked.
Will I be able to achieve that or do I need to keep fighting other plugins
Thanks A lot in advance, Best Regards. Claus
Load x numbers of the last images,
Yes.
Have the thumbnail be 250px wide,
If you set row height to 250 then since Instagram images are 1:1 then they’ll be 250 wide. The automatic justify feature will however likely crop so you also need to enable ‘disable cropping’, in that case to fill the space the images may appear slower but never cropped.
Display them in a slideshow placed in the sidebar,
Can you define slideshow? JIG is not a slideshow plugin, it’s a thumbnails gallery
Have a lightbox pop out when clicked.
Yes.
Cool, thx for the answers.
I had an instagram slideshow earlier, but maybe it’s better to just have the last 5 images. That way it’s easier for people to have a glance and see if there is anything they like to see or comment on.
You can definitely do that.
Hi, I have added my gallery here using the default wp gallery, its listing out the image ids but they are not clickable, any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Edit got it, there was the default theme overriding it. But for some reason my images at the bottom row are getting cut off?
Sorry to crowd your page here…fixed it. great plugin.
Glad you got it
can I filter based on combination of location and hashtags?
can the page auto refresh when new post is detected on instagram that meet the hashtag and location filter? or can the page be refresh at specified time interval?
Can I put the filter on url for example www.mysite.com/mypage/?hashtag=justifiedimagegrid&location=newyork
You can officially choose the instagram location for your image source then narrow to a hashtag, if any. So if yout shown 100 images have 7 images with that hashtag then 7 images will show up, there is no API method that combines both, as far as I know.
There is no auto detect or auto refresh, the API would quickly deny access anyway if you have many visitors. There is a user changeable caching time also.
No it doesn’t work like that but with some custom coding it would be possible.
The location needs the foursquare location id, not just ‘newyork’, which you can figure out using worldc.am
I’m not sure if this would be solvable through this plugin or elsewhere, but I’ll give it a go. I have a single page site and a justified image gallery that links lower down the page. I’m trying to get it so when the link is clicked on the gallery image it smooth/auto scrolls down the the portion of the page. Any thoughts?
Yes you can set the custom link of the image to a javascript:someScrolltoFunction(); or just #someposition and use a 3rd party scrollTo animation plugin that actually does the trick.
I’ve been trying the #someposition and 3rd party plugin but so far it hasn’t succeeded. Do you know of any that work with justified image grid links?
They are just simple links, it should work. There are many that are better with the other method, which are actual javascript calls.
If I go with javascript to I add the script to the custom field in the nextgen gallery?
Yes. It’ll look something like this:
javascript:scrollAnywhere('#someAnchor');
okay, i’ve been trying to add my own custom javascript to that nextgen field, but I am a bit out of my depth and can’t seem to make it work… I guess my question is do I need to any any javascript anywhere else or should I be able to successfully do this by only adding javascript that the custom field?
btw, you’ve been very helpful so far and quick to respond… that you so much for that.
If the JS plugin is loaded and activated in the site already then in theory you don’t need to add anything else anywhere. Perhaps you are using the wrong plugin for it. I’m sure that there are some good ones out there that have this API you can access like this. If you want I can take a look at this for you if you link the exact page you are experimenting on.
That would be incredible! Thank you so much. The page that the gallery is on is: www.coururemotionpictures.com
I see you tried everything but unfortunately none of the solutions are correct.
Do not use the function or square brackets at all in that calling script.
In JS you define a function with the word function then simply call it with, for example, a simple parameter.
Instead of javascript:function scrollTo(#film4);
use
javascript:scrollTo(”#film4”);
Do not use the <script> tag, getelementbyid, or document ready and similar things there.
Okay, tried what you suggested… still isn’t working
any last suggestions?
Does it work if you set it up as a simple text link in the content? First you need to make that work, then if the same thing doesn’t work from JIG then I can help.
It does. I’ve gone back and altered the first three links to be simple links that do work. Thanks for the help.
Ok
Do I need to add a .onclick to this?
No
Odd, at the top of the gallery (which does work and appear), I’m getting the following for every image it seems:
Notice: Undefined variable: width in …server/plugins/justified-image-grid/justified-image-grid.php on line 5491
Oh and ‘height’ after each ‘width’ error too.
Which version of WP are you running? That is a hook, “editor_max_image_size” you may have something interfering with it. It’s necessary as WP doesn’t return the true image size of a WP-resized image, if it’s larger than 1000 or a value set by your theme. You can hide the notice by setting wp_debug to false in the wp-config.php. It’s not a solution but at least you won’t see any notices.
Hi there – 3.6.1, however I’ve upgraded to 3.7 and have the same issue. Debug mode is set to false already (by default). It’s the only plugin running. Theme is Jupiter here on TF.
Let me see, contact me from my profile, I’ll need FTP to check it out.
This plugin looks and works great!
I have an album that I pull in using the code [justified_image_grid preset=3 lightbox=foobox mobile_lightbox=foobox orderby=title_asc developer_link=hide ng_album=3 ng_description=no]. I don’t want to display image titles but I want to display the name of the gallery so people know which one is which. Is there any way for me to either:
a) use the code to populate the gallery thumbnail but then define a custom URL for each gallery (instead of opening “nggallery/all-galleries/...”
b) use a style like preset 3 with title overlay for the gallery name but then not show the image name for the images on “nggallery/all-galleries/...”?
a. It’s a NextGEN feature, it’s at the album settings, you need to choose a post that the album links to, it’s called “Page Link to”.
b. Normally you can’t as the same shortcode controls both the album view and the gallery view. Since NextGEN has 2 fields, and if you use only one field for the images, then you could use the other, description field for the gallery text. This is only a problem if you use the automatic nggallery/ path. If you do this manually then you need to insert the gallery on your own with any shortcode you wish, that is different from the album view.
I love this plugin, but I can only use it on pages. Is there any way to use it on my blog, when I have my blog as my front page?
I want to display one row of instagram pictures across the screen, but I only see that I can do it in pages, not on my actual blog (which is my front page)
In the shortcode editor, generate a template tag using the settings and image source you need, and insert the generated PHP snippet to the blog template PHP of your theme at the desired place. If you have a widget area there you don’t need the template tag.
Thank you so so much!
No problem, please don’t forget to rate, thanks!
Firsh, I’m combining JIG and SGP.
But let’s say, for instance, your “author’s choice” preset—option #2. This makes the JIG images black-and-white until hovering, then they show color.
If I wanted to make the JIG images even darker than they are, site-wide, how would I go about doing this?
I’ve read through the documentation, but I’m not sure if I should do this within the JIG settings page, or add some type of custom CSS (opacity?) somewhere.
Thanks!
The black and white effect doesn’t make the images darker, but the overlay effects on the other tab does. Set it to ‘others’ and the opacity should be something like 0.7 and the color is black, that will make it pretty dark. Do it in the JIG setting that’s sitewide, but also select the preset there, as if you select it in the shortcode then the global styling settings are overridden by your shortcode settings.
Hi Firsh, I have the same problem of nachumi_e; I also change the permissions to the “cache” folder and their files, but notingh! Chek the page http://compra.aver.cl/grilla/
Sorry that page doesn’t load for me at all, I tried yesterday too. Try Jetpack photon or disable timthumb on the timthumb tab.
Finally I contact my VPS provider and he told me that he update the php, to version 5.3.x, then he installed xcache, ioncube, zen guard and select modules of zio zlib, cache, gd…. and now its works!
Thanks!
can this be use in instagram based on hashtags? Let say I want to load all instagram images with hashtag #socialgallery? if yes, will it refresh automatically when new post is added?
Yes and yes. The time it takes to see the new image depends on the Instagram caching setting and if you are using any caching plugins. http://justifiedgrid.com/instagram/ Example 4 – tags. That is a gallery based on a hashtag. Only one hashtag can be used at a time, (Instagram API feature).
Hi,
I’m getting ready to buy this plugin, but I have a question too. It looks like I will also want to use a “gallery” plugin like NextGen to help me organize the large number of images I eventually plan to have on my site. I’ve read some disturbing reviews about the newest release of NextGen (even though it’s working perfectly on my test server), and was wondering if your had any suggestions about which gallery plugin you might recommend that would help with the organization. What would you use if you were going to organize a site with a large number of images. In this case, “large” means less than 5,000 images.
Thanks,
NextGEN is still okay, the only problem was when they released v2 abruptly. I reacted that in August, and even if they stayed that way, if you are using NextGEN through JIG, you would be okay performance-wise and compatibility-wise. But since they made NextGEN better, so it generally works among the WP community. Even better with JIG. It all depends on what features you need. The WP media library is fine, if you install something like MLA – Media Library Assistant that can boost it with some tagging features and whatnot. I’d still recommend NextGEN, even if v2 was bad, it’s still the most complete gallery organization plugin that works well with JIG. You don’t need their ‘pro’ version and you don’t need to care how their frontend looks, as JIG will manage the looks for you. The only thing matters is the ease of use, setting up galleries / albums, how you upload and such. NextGEN does that well!
Thanks Firsh. That clears it up. I was beginning to suspect that they maybe released V2 before it was ready. It happens! Anyway, I’ll buy your version of JIG here in a few minutes and plan to use it as the front end while using NextGen to manage things.
Thanks Again
That’ll be a good combo. You are not the first to use thousands of pictures with NextGEN and JIG
Hello—I have a Nextgen gallery whose thumbs I need to add an icon over (like a plus sign or a magnifying glass) on mouseover. Is this something that would accomplish this?
Yes! http://justifiedgrid.com/preset-11-magnifier-blur/ You can change the icon and it’s also retina ready.
I just noticed that Justified Image Grid isn’t recognizing my Foobox plugin. I went to foobox and checked the settings and the box was checked for JIG support. I’ve disabled both plugins and reenabled but that doesn’t seem to work. The box in JIG for under lightbox tab still says that Foobox isn’t active. Also, I have the latest version of both. Any suggestions? thanks
Are you sure you have v1.7.1 of JIG? The previous versions don’t detect FooBox v2+.
Oops, I have v1.4 of JIG and 2.085 of Foobox. I assumed that since I didn’t have any update alerts in my plugins tab that it was the most current. Not sure how I update to v1.71.
Download it again from here. Deactivate and delete the old, then install the new. The settings will be kept! The plugin doesn’t auto update as of yet. Tick the update notifications under the downloads page of your account to get an email every time.
Great Support! Thank you, I’m up and running again.
Great!
Hi
Just bought the plugin and am very excited to get it working. However it seems I might have some of the same issues as another member, Klaus (http://www.photoroi.com/portfolio/michaela-t-01042012/) I want to acheive the exact same effect (Iknow I have to get social gallery too).
My challange is that I am trying to display a NextGen gallery, but I don’t get any lightbox, it just links to the URL of the image. The page I am working on is http://marilynscloset.dk/outfit-of-the-day/ The bottom gallery is made using the recent_posts=yes shortcode, and it also links instead of opening a lightbox.I have W3 Total Cache installed, but nothing changed when I disabled it.
I hope you have some suggestion to how I proceed from here.
Thanks in adVance Sincerely Claus
Keep W3TC disabled for now.
That is set up so links take you to the posts, hence the recent posts feature. To make them go to the image and in a lightbox, use:
[justified_image_grid recent_posts=yes recents_link_to=image]
Once you have it, ensure that Social Gallery is in JIG mode.
Make sure you got v1.7.1 but if you just bought that then you must have that.
Thanks a lot for your instant answer.
I did what you said, and sometimes a lightbox with the social gallery plugin appears, and sometimes it loads that for a short period of time then ‘redirects’ to the image URL. Any ideas here?
Thanks Claus
BTW, my nextgen is v. 1.9.13
I think it’s a Social Galelry problem as their lightbox opens briefly then the error occurs. Can you ask epicplugins about this? It seems to me that JIG in opening SG every time, but then something in SG is where is goes wrong.
Sure thing. I’ll ask the right away. Hope they answer as prompt as you
Thx.
Im using this plugin with next gen gallery. Thats were the images are being pulled from. I upload like 30 stock images, put they are all really big like 3000×5000 pixels. For some reason the gallery does not resize the images and for that reason its not working. I tried another gallery with small images and worked perfect.
Is there a way to tell the gallery to automatically resize all the images to a smaller size so it works? That way i dont have to do it manually
How big are thos pictures (MB)? Timthumb has a limit on how big images it can resize. It’s 10MB by default. Why do you upload the original resolution images? You can batch prepare them for web using ACDSee, Photoshop or similar. If you upload to WP media library WP creates a normal size of them by default, but I’m sure NextGEN has some similar feature as well, check that out. It’s NextGEN’s task to handle the resize of the original source image to a web-sized image to open in the lightbox (and to work with for thumbs using JIG and TimThumb).
Hi Overall, great plugin! But somehow gallery can’t update photo sets from Flickr. After I upload new image on Flickr nothing is going on – even after 24 hours. I’ve removed and add new Flickr user…purge cache, Only when I’m adding new photoset script is picking up all images from flickr
Hmm…why is always max 25 images display in a Flick gallery. I would like to change it.
That’s a deafult limit. You need to use the “limit” setting to get the desired number of images.
Normally the Flickr cache is 1 hour (the list of images). You can clear the Flickr cache in the JIG settings, Flickr tab, and there is a link to purge it. You need to upload the image to the Flickr set you are displaying. If you are showing photostream then this does not matter.
Ok..will check how does it work …thanks
Ok
