Any way to create a gallery by defining a common nextgen image tag?
For example I have multiple different galleries, but would like to combine some images from each on another summary page… works in nextgen with the [nggtags gallery] code but doesn’t seem to work with JIG?
That’s not a feature yet, sorry.
Thanks for the response – please keep that functionality in mind for a future update! It would be very valuable!
Sure I will.
The new version v1.4.5 includes your feature request, make sure you update!
The plugin looks cool but I can get it to work with NextGen.
I am get a 404.
Here is the scene:
- Local Enviroment – XAMPP 1.8.1
- Followed all instructions carefully about setting up NextGen and JIG
- localhost/porjectname/clubs-societies/ – is a page where [justified_image_grid ngalbum=1] shows correctly. When I hover the Name of the Album is shown – no problem here.
- When I click on it the resultant URI – localhost/projectname/clubs-societies/nggallery/activities/activities-of-clubs-and-societies , returns a 404!
- The 404 is generated using archive.php, that much I know
Please help!
I need to make this work in the next few hours! Thanks.
You can’t show it to me because it’s on your local server right? Does it happen when you don’t use my plugin just nextgen on its own too?
Thanks
That is right. It is in a local environment hence I cannot show it to you. Yes, even after deactivating your plugin the problem persists. When I use the Twenty Twelve theme(just to test), everything works fine
Then it’s a problem with the theme, it’s setting up its own routing stuff. If it persists on the nextgen gallery without my plugin too then I can’t be of too much help
Thanks Firsh! I understand that from your position as this is not related to your plugin. Any friendly advise or pointers, please? Thanks.
Hey Firsh, regardless of my not being able to use the plugin yet, I have happily hit the 5 stars for JIG!

Well I had this problem with anothey buyer and we weren’t able to find a solution othen than using another theme. If you let me experiment with your theme I might find something. Can you contact me via E-mail? It’s definitely something in the theme, that’s pointing to 404 where it shouldn’t be.
I appreciate that a lot Firsh!. Thanks mate. Sending you the theme via e-mail right away!
OK.
Found the solution.. For anyone reading this, the problem is caused by a custom post type that is also called ‘gallery’ and NextGEN also uses thin in the WP query string.
You my friend have been awesome! You went beyond the call of duty to help me out!
So easy to recommend your work and support to others!
We need people like you out there on all Evnavto Marketplaces!
Cheers mate!
Thank you! There is a new version v1.4.5, make sure you update!
Hello there,
We’re using your plug-in to handle the job photo section of our company site, but the functionality isn’t exactly what we were hoping for.
Is there way to customize this plug-in to paginate galleries into multiple pages, instead of the ‘Load More’ method? The concern is that we have a ton of images in each gallery, and we don’t want the page to just keep scrolling and scrolling (for example, we’d like to display 8-12 images, and have a [ Next Page – 1, 2 ,3 , 4, Last Page ] sort of set-up.)
Is this at all possible, or should we look for an alternative gallery?
Thanks for your time.
No that kind of pagination is not a feature currently, sorry.
Hi Firsh,
Just installed your plugin as it’s just what I was looking for. I’m integrating with NextGEN galleries but having difficulties getting the image grid to display. The image placeholders are there but not displaying the image yet if I click on the invisible image the Lightbox displays correctly with all the images visible. I’ve tried all the suggestions in your FAQ and in a previous post from adsonwheels2013 but no joy. Any suggestions to fixing this would be gratefully received. My site can be accessed at blog.andybrownphotography.co.uk.
Many thanks,
Andy Brown
There is a server configuration error: This link shouldn’t givce an internal server error thing. http://blog.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/justified-image-grid/timthumb.php?src=http://blog.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/gallery/british-birds/k5ab6158.jpg&h=230&q=100&f=.jpg Can you ask you hosting’s support why timthumb is not working?
I’ve been trying to work out what’s wrong myself. Is it possible that it’s something to do with Wordpress Multi Site as mentioned in the Timthumb blog? My hosting service controls three domains and Wordpress is installed in a subdomain.
Just checked your documentation and it looks like the problem is due to the location of the Wordpress installation. Your documentation says:
Isn’t WordPress on the top level on your domain? Do you have something like yourdomain.com/~username/wp-content? In some cases, a bad configuration drives TimThumb (the 3rd party image-resizer script) crazy. It can’t find the image on the server’s file system. You’ll need to edit the timthumb-config.php file in the plugin directory with your path in it as: $_SERVER[‘DOCUMENT_ROOT’] = ’/path/to/wordpress’; Contact me and I’ll sort it out for you.
I’m not sure of the exact syntax to change the plugin directory in the config file. The WP installation lives in a folder called /app450220034 under the root directory of my domain, if you could help me with this please.
Many thanks,
Andy
But then why is it giving a 500 internal server error rathen than timthumb saying it can’t find the image
The specific syntax of the /path/to/wordpress can vary by server and I can’t write up something just like that because it’s specific to your server. You’re getting the same error even if you don’t try to process an image through timthumb: http://blog.andybrownphotography.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/justified-image-grid/timthumb.php It’s another kind of server setup problem, that a hosting company should know how to resolve. You can always try to set up lighter permissions, e.g. 777 on timthumb.php and the /cache folder and its contents (My plugin’s settings, TimThumb tab and check permissions there.).
Thanks for all your help Firsh. I’ve now discovered that the Wordpress installation has some restrictions imposed by my provider which is probably causing these problems. I am now in the process of setting up another subdomain with a clean installation of Wordpress which I’m installing manually to remove the restrictions so hopefully this will work. I’ll let you know if I need your help again.
Regards,
Andy
Ok keep me updated.
Hi Firsh,
My full unrestricted Wordpress site is now running and JIG works brilliantly, thanks for all your help and keep up the good work with the plugin.
Regards,
Andy
Thank you!
Hi Firsh!
Couple of questions:
1) What features are available without the use of FooBox?
2) Can I still use the NexGen gallery plugin for image/album management without the use of FooBox, using only your plugin in addition to the NexGen gallery plugin?
Thanks.
1. Everything you see outside of FooBox. The ‘chain’ is like [gallery manager (WP, NextGEN, FB, Flickr..)] -> [the display: JIG] -> [the lightbox]. My plugin acts as a middleman between the lightbox and the image source.
2. Yes you can choose from other lightboxes bundled with the plugin or use your own you already got.
Thanks! Purchasing right this moment!
Actually, I fixed the issue from the previous comment…now I’m wonder why my max pictures is only 25. :/
For some odd reason, when I installed the Wordpress Jetpack and activated it, Justified Image Grid stopped working. Have you run through this problem or is there a way to fix it? I want to make titled images (which is a feature in jetpack) from my WP gallery to link certain pictures to my JIG gallery pages.
It’s Jetpack’s Photon that is not compatible. Disable that and you can keep the rest of the services of Jetpack active.
Hi – does your plugin allow commenting on individual images? That’s a condition for me. Everything else about your gallery sounds absolutely fabulous…
No but Social Gallery does and it is compatible with this
Or if you find another lightbox that does comments there is a good chance you can connect with it.
Thanks – I’ll look into it!
Hi there,
I’m trying to use your gallery plug-in, but it doesn’t seem to be working for me. I created a test gallery at the following address:
http://adsonwheels.com/version2/test-gallery/
The default wordpress gallery works fine, but when I place in the justified_image_grid tag as the instructions suggest, nothing appears. Please help!
Whew, thanks! That did the trick.
Firsh, can you answer a few questions for me to help me decide if this is indeed the right plugin for what I’m trying to accomplish?
Can all the tile squares be set to a specific size vs. various sizes? Can and does the gallery automatically populate with the “Recent Posts” setting, and can you pick a Wordpress category instead of Recent Posts?
I’m trying to achieve a look like this project tutorial gallery: http://jonesdesigncompany.com/tutorials/
Thank you for your help!
You can set the height of rows but othen than that it’s entirely automatic you can’t individually size the tiles, it’s the point to let that be automatic to fill the width. You can set a fixed row height for all rows or a dynamic row height that’ll allow the gallery to dynamically adjust rows based on their images to allow less cropping.
The gallery can automatically populate with Recent posts and you can also choose a category but the posts displayed will be by date descending (recent posts from x,y categories you set).
The look you linked is the regular gallery style (created by many plugins), my plugin isn’t for that. The problem with that look is that images, especially portrait images are getting cropped badly!
First off hats off to you Firsh, this is an AWESOME plugin, one that I’ll be using extensively on my sites! I’m setting a a photo sharing blog for family and friends and I’d like the ability to have the download link that works with prettyphotos actually download the high-res version of the image that is being displayed. Is this possible and if so how would I enable / implement it? Thanks in advance.
Tee
It’s a feature of the plugin
You can enable a download link that gets added to below the photo in prettyPhoto and it doesn’t link to the resolution getting displayed but the large version.
Okay, back to the 27 page pdf to do some research to understand your cool tool! Thanks for the speedy reply. Again great plugin.
You might find this useful: Video #2 Settings and creating a gallery
Ciao Firsh. I watched the video and it was very helpful, in conjunction with your manual I’m well on my way. Though I do have another question, do standard social buttons (i.e. like by fb) keep track of comments/likes? Someone “liked” a photo in the gallery but when I checked I could click like but the number was 0. Thanks for the speedy replies and support!
Tee
Thanks for the feedback!
PrettyPhoto like the gallery as a whole, while other sharers can share the image individually. It requires a change in the theme and prettyPhoto to allow individual likes. Contact me if you are interested (customization).
PM sent.
Hi Firsh, sorry for all the times that i thinked my blog was in conflict against your plug in. There is a Italian web service that is call altervista.org and changing that on other hosting your plug in work well. So was just that! It’s really smart and easy to use, thanks!
Great thanks!
Hi Firsh,
Great plugin, very flexible. I’m using this on a clients website, and wanted to use a gallery as a horizontal rule. Everything works fine, although I had to mess around for a while to get it working perfectly.
I think it would be great if the overlay could have a fixed position, with 100% height. I managed to get this working by making the captions a fixed size and using the alternative text as a caption, to make sure the captions were bigger than the image size (100×100). It works, but would be cool for it to work with a click and some CSS.
Damian
I plan on doing that to make the caption’s background cover the image and let the text be vertically centered. Is that what yout meant?
Sorry, I should of explained better. The caption text colour I made the same colour of the background_color. So, really all it is, is an overlay with 100% height over the image. I do like the idea of vertical text though.
What’s wrong with the overlay feature? You don’t need to hack the text in order to have a color overlay on the thumbs. See the purple thing on the images: http://justifiedgrid.com/preset-7/ That can remain static and is independent of the text.
Or can you show me what you did?
I’ve been using that preset. However, I couldn’t find any way to make it remain static. i.e. it has a hover effect. Here’s the page that I’ve been messing around with. But the overlay height is dependant on the captions length. Does that make sense? http://rkrlancon.com/?page_id=375
Ahhaa I see what you mean good point. Currently you can only do this: http://justifiedgrid.com/static-overlay/ With the ‘others’ settings. I’ll consider adding the ‘everything/fixed/static’ however to call it feature to the dropdown.
The new version v1.4.5 includes your feature request, make sure you update! The overlay can now remain on on everything.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the work you put in.
Vertical captions centering is added in today’s update v1.4.9 – you were somewhat interested in it.
Do you have any idea why suddenly I’m getting a responsive nav menu when JIG is activated? I tried deactivating all plugins with only JIG active, no change. I did delete the old, download and activate the new version.
http://174.120.241.76/portfolio/zombies/I became aware of the issue after updating Jetpack, the update is distorting images and making oEmbed videos too wide so I deactivated it and the responsive menu appeared. It also goes away again when Jetpack is re-activated, or, JIG is deactivated.
I tested JIG on a Catalyst/Dynamik theme with and without Jetpack, no problems.
Hope you might have some suggestions cause I’m at a loss and I really like the plugin.
Thank you.
I have no idea but if you ‘suddenly’ experience it it might be because of jQuery 1.9 – go to the plugin’s settings, general tab, jQuery source and select ‘bundled with this plugin’.
Anyway what’s wrong with the responsive nav menu? Or you mean that white dropdown? That is not put there by my plugin for sure. Jetpack has some crazy stuff, go over its settings.
”...might be because of jQuery 1.9…” BINGO! Yep, that was the issue. Guess it’s a theme bug, cause no problem with jQuery 1.9 (latest from google) Catalyst/Dynamik install.
And yes, I was referring to the little white dropdown menu.
Everything is OK with Jetpack activated too, works fine now. All is back to normal. Thanks!!
Great! Don’t use Jetpack’s Photon though
I
I am new to using WP so this question is probably going to sound very basic. I have your plugin installed and i’ve created galleries but I don’t know how to edit a gallery such as add or remove photos from it? Are you suppose to just upload all the photos again in order to create a different gallery?
What version of WP are you using? Do you have the ids attribute in my shortcode?
I am using 3.5 – I am unsure how to use the ID’s criteria. I see it in the editor but don’t know what to place in that box?
Have you read the documentation? It explains how you get the IDs from WP3.5’s gallery creator. You manage add/edit or delete the photos there, then copy the new ids attribute over to the shortcode.
Ok I will take a look at that, thanks again. The plugin is amazing by the way!
I think it was you who commented on the old video on youtube? Anyway a video explaining exactly this is in the works. The new basic video is here btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPRN_68Q8B4&hd=1
Yes that was me—I look forward to seeing that video and I think that will greatly help me out with getting organized and having a workflow with multiple galleries. Thank you!
Do you think this new #1 video is good? Technically.
Yes for sure, but it’s only geared towards someone who doesn’t know how to install or uninstall the plugin.
Believe me there are people who find that useful
Here is the second one: Video #2 Settings and creating a gallery
Perfect – I will check it out and then comment on it! Thank you for the quick responses and turnaround time on the youtube video to go over everything! YouDaMan!
Cheers!
amazing plugin and slideshow. Thank you!!
Thanks!
This is unbelievable. I am very happy now. Thanks Firsh…
Thanks
There is a new version v1.4.5, make sure you update!
I tested your gallery also inside another my website http://fashionbleeker.com/slideshow-test/
[justified_image_grid ids=1920,1919,1917,1916,1915,1914,1913,1904,1905,1906,1907,1908,1909,1910,1911,1912,1921]
please let me know if you find the same mistake.
If yes please send me the link of the ERROR
thanks Simone
Seems to be working now.
amazing plugin and slideshow. Thank you!!
Please just the last one thing -> how to show the slideshow out of a page? please look at picture http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh153/mcbrandsstores/New%20Album%20Labo35/slide_zpsa0eec888.jpg
I don’t know what you mean. You can add a gallery to a page just like a post.
Would you like the gallery between the menu and the content? If you have widget areas there you can add the shortcode into a text widget. If not, you can add the gallery as a template tag (can be genarated in the shortcode editor) but you’ll need to insert the PHP code to the header.php file in the appropriate place. I guess this is what you meant.
If you are not that technical you can contact me I can help you for a little something.
Shortcode changed as you suggested.
How to enable your plugin for that page?
It’s enabled but there is a server error. This should load your image: http://www.testing-laboratorio35.com/wp-content/plugins/justified-image-grid/timthumb.php?src=http://www.testing-laboratorio35.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/92.jpg&h=200&q=90&f=.jpg
Can you ask your hosting’ support why timthumb won’t work?
I tested your gallery also inside another my website http://fashionbleeker.com/slideshow-test/ [justified_image_grid ids=1920,1919,1917,1916,1915,1914,1913,1904,1905,1906,1907,1908,1909,1910,1911,1912,1921] please let me know if you find the same mistake. If yes please send me the link of the ERROR thanks Simone
You have server errors on that site too. What hosting is this? In the docs there is a troubleshooting part that helps you with 400 bad reqest. You need to set 777 permissions in this case:
http://fashionbleeker.com/wp-content/plugins/justified-image-grid/timthumb.php?src=http://fashionbleeker.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/BBBEJ2012-258-550x366.jpg&h=200&q=90&f=.jpgI see it works now on fashionbleeker!
