Hi. I just noticed that justified image grid does not keep the like/share counts? why is this and this needs to work. website: http://winetourismsouthafrica.co.za/sliceofsa/

Greetings,

I think I need some help with image load. I have a quite big image gallery. I have noticed that the images are not open until the entire gallery (thumbs) are loaded. At least it seems to be a case.

I would like to load the thumbs to fulfil a whole page than load more of them while scrolling – same on mobile and desktop setting. I do not want to use a button.

I will be most obliged for any helpful indication of a proper setting. Many thanks in advance.

Here is the gallery:

And here is my setting:

Yeah I remember your custom colorbox. Please contact me from my profile with temporary wp-admin login, then I’ll find you a way to have 3rd party colorbox AND load more working together.

Oh, I am pleasantly surprised. The message has been sent. Many thanks.

Ok I’ll reply there when I process it.

Having trouble getting a full size image to appear, am using a Google/Picasa rss feed. When I look at the images via the feed I can see a nice large image when I click on them but when testing out the plugin I get a maybe medium size image. Is there a setting I am missing? http://hillcrest-enterprises.com/test/ sample page

Am switching over to your plug in from Photonic,

I reached out to Casper (the writer of this article https://casper.baghuis.nl/2015/04/08/picasa-google-photos-wordpress ) and he mentioned that you can just add &imgmax=1152 to the end of the RSS url, so you get larger images without changing anything in JIG’s code.

[justified_image_grid preset=20 caption=below caption_height=40 caption_title_size=10px overlay=others lightbox=photoswipe rss_url=https://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/114882899005324455140/albumid/6254176087527591025?alt=rss&kind=photo&hl=en_US&imgmax=1152 rss_links_to=image]

It does exactly what I’ve found out, but behind the scenes.

PERFECT ! It is working thank you

No problem, I’m glad we figured this out. I updated the FAQ article. Please review the plugin or the support you received, if you haven’t already. Thank you! :)

We just found out that we could use the “Caption” field to store price info. Now the question is how we make your plugin show that information?

“Captions tab” is what gets shown on the thumbnails, and you control what is shown in the lightbox on the Lightboxes tab. Look for “what text to show” sections on both of those tabs. You can select any WP field. But these cannot be controlled by log-in state of the user.

Hi again,

We would like to include price on artworks shown by the grid, but this information is sensitive and therefore we would ask users to register and get approved before being able to see that information in the lightbox. Any idea of how we could setup something like that?

// Thomas

Well you could prevent them from reaching the lightbox without being logged in, there is a setting for that. And show that info only in the lightbox. If no lightbox opens, they won’t see that info. Developers could see the img alt and link title on the image, as those would be in the source even though no lightbox.

Or you could prevent the entire gallery from showing without being logged-in, there is a setting for that also.

Hi, is it possible to sort the order of the images to show after filenames and not titles etc.? I need my images to show in a specific order made by filenames as the title of the images is visible for the viewer and will need to be the same for all images. Apologies if it is already stated somewhere.

If the image title is not the same as file name, you won’t be able to sort by file name. Often the upload is done by file name so the ID gets incremented the same order. Thus, try date descending order, should be similar to file name order. But what content source is this?

Hi there,

Two questions: 1. Is is possible to setup a search and/or filter functionality for site visitors within the plugin? Something like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-portfolio-gallery/screenshots/ and many other have (even though I would prefer it if you could filter on more than one of the selected filter variables)? 2. We would like to include a “request more information about this artwork” in the lightbox. Anyone else did this and how?

// Thomas

1. Filtering yes: http://justifiedgrid.com/features/filtering/ Realtime search: no, but normal search results yes: http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/show-search-results-justified-image-grid/

2. You’d need to modify the lightbox layout (JS file) slightly if it needs to be on every image automatically. Otherwise just insert that wording as HTML links in the description of the photo.

Hi, I am eager to purchase your plugin. Before that i have two questions… It’s a media website and hence i am in need of creating many gallery post.

1. Is the thumbnail size managed by your plugin? coz i am afraid if the image will load while the post loads.

I publish images in high quality, sometimes 10mb too. So i don’t want the images to load while visitor open the page, instead it should load when they click the respective thumbnail. In simple even if the total image size in the post is 100mb, my page size should not be more than 5-10mb.

2. I will most probably use your “Orton effect” preset which impressed me a lot. So will the above condition suit the situation

P.S I am using nextgen gallery to manage gallery post :)

Hi,

that’s a good setup to start with.

1. Yes it’s managed. I don’t recommend 10MB pictures being uploaded, even if it’s only for the lightbox. My stock photos on the demo site are about 300kb of size and full HD. Use 60% JPG compression by default. It’s the web, not print :)

See more about thumbnails at: http://justifiedgrid.com/features/retina-ready/

And: http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/why-do-you-use-timthumb/

Yes the page will be in that size range easily, it depends on your thumbnail size and thumbnail quality and if you use load more or not. Page of 185 thumbnails = 3.4MB, loads under 3s (without cache), of which images are 2.7MB. http://justifiedgrid.com/presets/preset-19-caption-fun-gray-background/#

2. Orton is just the blur effect, applied with a transparency. You can fine tune it to your needs. Yes the above will suit it. http://justifiedgrid.com/features/special-effects/

3. If you didn’t already start populating your NextGEN library, then my recommendation is to use Real Media Library with JIG. http://justifiedgrid.com/sources/wp-real-media-library/ It costs extra. I’m not recommending it to funnel more of your money to RML’s developer, but it’s really just that much better than NextGEN.

Some relevant pros of RML over NextGEN:
  • Uses native media library at its core.
  • RML has JIG specific code in it, this it’s a twoway compatibility. Whereas NG doesn’t “know” about JIG, so I built it around NG’s code and database.
  • Drag n drop organizing capabilities. I’m not even sure you can move images between NG galleries. With RML you can drag n drop and change the structure very easily anytime.
  • Tags and categories can be enabled on media library images, thus RML source has this also, if you need tagging of images, and filtering them. RML is more versatile in this regard than NG with it’s only one taxonomy (tags).
Regards, Firsh

I am having someone create a web gallery portion of my website and have been unhappy with his choices. Do you have someone in mind that could incorporate your plugin into my site. I was using Yogile as a stand alone product and they decided to do away with photo names so it rendered all 600 of my galleries useless along with the 50-60000 images I had in them. Thanks David Margolis www.skyviewsurvey.com

If I were to start from scratch and manage a large galery, I’d use Real Media Library with JIG. http://justifiedgrid.com/sources/wp-real-media-library/ It costs extra. I’m not recommending it to funnel more of your money to RML’s developer, but it’s really just that good.

Compare RML with NextGEN:
  • RML Uses native media library at its core.
  • RML has JIG specific code in it, this it’s a twoway compatibility. Whereas NG doesn’t “know” about JIG, so I built it around NG’s code and database.
  • Nextgen-related code of JIG is highly optimized for less database queries, though. I have seen very large NextGEN libraries working just fine.
  • RML’s Drag n drop organizing capabilities.

For large libraries I also recommend having “Media Library Assistant” to do batch processing/tagging whatever. Optionally, if you have IPTC metadata (title, description, keywords) embedded in the image you an autoimport them with MLA, and NextGEN also uses that data if I recall correctly. So you can avoid the manual work OR you can enter that data in a more comfortable environment (for example, Lightroom or ACDsee), rather than working in the browser, one by one for every image.

When adding lots of images together, NextGEN has FTP upload mode, but media library (RML) can also take it via the “Add From server” plugin (after images are uploaded to FTP).

50-60k images spread across 600 galleries would mean about 100 images per gallery on average. I don’t recommend going over 500 photos in a single gallery. It can work, with caching and load more just fine, but mobile devices will likely suffer with that amount.

What did Yogile do with the photo names?

If they have RSS feed output you can connect JIG to it, if that system is still viable to some extent.

I don’t know anyone who could help you set it up, besides myself. I don’t outsource to freelancers as I’m very disappointed in the general work quality and am very picky about whom I work with. RML’s developer is one of the few exceptions, he is good :) Let me know if you need my help or if you can take it from here with all this info.

Frisch-Thanks for the response and the way in which you address it. My wordpress “Guru” has fixed my problem in the short run but I am not really digging his solution as I find it cumbersome. I would be happy to send you my login to the front end of Yogile to see what I really am after. For all of their nonsense and simplicity it did exactly what I needed. They simply put up filter that stripped unique image names from the files and they refuse to do anything about it. Their claim was that it confused people. As you know every pro in the world needs a way to identify individual images. So they infect destroyed 4 years worth of galleries. Here is a typical link that I send to my clients…..https://www.yogile.com/tnka2sme/11m/share/?vsc=a54837f8.....It takes them right to their gallery and they make their selections. You will notice that there is no longer anyway to determine the particular image.

I would love a more elegant solution and this is something that you can personally build into my website skyviewsurvey.com that would be great. I would love a proposal and I imagine it wouldn’t take a long time to integrate it.

Part of the reason that I am now looking to have this done from inside my website is that I think from a nonactive SEO perspective it would give the site a bunch more movement as well. Let me know if there is something that we can do and if there is a way to contact you other than thru the comments page. Thanks David Margolis

What they did was really silly, they removed a good feature. Unique image names and ways to identify each image is pretty basic. I think I know how you feel. I had to mark up all my 700ish stock photo collection with 2 lines of caption for my demo site, so it loooks “non-default” :) If I were to lose the way to provide that info to my visitors, I’d be baffled.

What do you clients do with the images? Please note that since JIG’s 2 primary lightboxes – prettyPhoto and PhotoSwipe – deeplink using the image’s media library ID readily available in the URL and in the page, with a quick custom job we could go as far as putting a link or button in the lightbox similar to “buy now” or “request print” or “add to cart” that automatically passes the image based on its ID to any “cart “or “contact form” or “idea box” or “collection” or “wish list” or “picks” or similar interface. An idea of mine would be to pass the image to a woocommerce product’s custom option, to allow a seller to sell customized gift products. Like a piece of glass decorative object with an image engraved in it, based on specific photos from the website. You get the idea.

So you currently had your own site + an offsite location on yogile, at the same time? That’s definitely not helping with SEO.

You can contact me from my profile for further discussion. I can guide you through the steps or help you out as a custom job.

Hi there. Just out of curiousity; why do I have to pay for updates of the plugin I’ve bought? Isn’t there some obligation from/for the author to keep his plugin safe and working for whenever there is an update of Wordpress itself?

Just wondering ;-)

Why would you need to pay for updates? They are forever free. http://justifiedgrid.com/support/license/

Hi, thank you for this amazing plugin. I want to set a standard “size” and have the images I select fit into this size (being cropped as necessary) but I cannot seem to get it right, can you please advise me in the documentation where I can find the correct settings? Thank you

HI,

Thanks for this beautiful plugin. I want to use it on my site but before that have just 2 queries. I shared image with twitter button on light box but the image was not shared just the URL link was shared without image. Also, is there any possibility to get short URL within light box share buttons as without short URL full image name title is not shown on twitter.

Hi, which lightbox did you press the twitter button on?

In prettyPhoto and PhotoSwipe it shares the deeplinked URL to a picture. http://justifiedgrid.com/lightboxes/prettyphoto/#!jig[1]/ML/9192 If it was sharing the image itself, it would only encourage theft and no way back to your site, it would not increase traffic.

Doesn’t twitter shortens your URLs automatically once tweeted, if necessary? URL is as short as it can be without 3rd party services like bitly.

Thanks for the reply.

Can you please plan an option to provide a option in back end whether to share images or not on twitter? https://codecanyon.net/item/justified-image-grid-premium-wordpress-gallery

Also, is there an option to search images by title?

Yeah I can add that to the todo list. I agree a tweet looks better if it includes a picture.

Search images by title by you at the time of creating the gallery, OR by the visitors using the site’s search, OR realtime just like filtering?

Connecting to ite search: http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/show-search-results-justified-image-grid/

Setting up gallery by searching in the title: NextGEN and Flickr sources support it, and now WP media library supports it with “Media Library Assistan” plugin, which is free.

Also, these can be connected to site search following the article above.

Hi – any plans for an alternative to timthumb other than Jetpack photon? Unfortunatelty timthumb counts as a php call for every time a thumbnail is called and webhosts such as Siteground will limit an account that has too many php calls.

It doesn’t result in a PHP call if you cache them with CloudFlare. It’ll recognize them as images and serve them as a static resource, hijacking the request to not result in a PHP call.

http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/why-do-you-use-timthumb/

Hi there,

I have a question :

- Actually it is possible to define a thumbnail size for the lightbox. But is it possible to define a thumbnail size to load for the grid only? This will save us a lot of bandwidth in most of situation.

Good idea. For now they are automatically created on the fly. Most customers don’t have thumbnails in the required size, also it changes dynamically (doubles or tiples in size and goes half or third in quality for retina ready). http://justifiedgrid.com/features/retina-ready/

You would only benefit from setting a specific thumbnail size manually in some edge cases currently.

More info: http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/why-do-you-use-timthumb/

First of all love this plugin! I’ve tried them all including the really expensive gallery plugins like Envira pro and this blows it away. The “Text to show before the grid” option says it will allow html, but simple html like a p tag with styles will cause the text to drop outside of the dialog box and cause the entire gallery not to load. There is a bug with entering html here. Thanks.

It’s a known problem, brought to my attention just recently. Contact me from my profile for a fix (latest beta). New version coming soon also.

I tried to message you and didn’t get a response, will this new version be coming soon, I’d really like to use this feature? Thanks.

I’ll send it again. https://snag.gy/cgBqtY.jpg

Hey there, wondering if you have solution for Google Photo’s RSS. It appears only photos that were in picasa can be accessed via RSS. New photos added to google photos can not?

This is all I know about that: http://justifiedgrid.com/support/faq/can-it-load-photos-from-picasa-google-or-google-photos/

It’s been updated recently.

Not sure if the photos must have been at picasa previously or not. But try it according to this article and let me know.

Hello, i now installed the plugin a few times but i can’t download the photo. Look at this http://fairpic.com/startseite/. Thanks

Please contact me from my profile for a possible fix.

Hola, ¿Puedo mostrar albunes de mi usuario de facebook o solamante de las paginas de facebook? Muchas gracias

It must look like this, but with your domain: https://snag.gy/Nkd1KG.jpg On Facebook, in the app’s settings.

This page (http://www.jimnewberry.com/music/) is displaying narrower grid than at my other pages (www.jimnewberry.com).

I don’t have different shortcode on the first page, also not using a special page layout.

JIG seems to be in a 70% width block and is surrounded by 2 15% blocks. If they get removed, JIG would take full width. Does anything in your editor resembe that on the backend? http://screencast.com/t/gXc8ditiNS

You’re right, it was an issue with the framework I’m using; I found it and corrected it. Thanks for the help!

No problem :)

Hi, I’m about to purchase your plugin along with the WP RML plugin. I’m currently migrating from a Joomla site having about 45 folders (=albums/galleries depending on definition) containing >1100 images in total.

Each gallery contain the images from a concert and I want to add a piece of text about the concert next on the start page of the album. So the page contains a fixed amount of galleries with pagination, each gallery having a few lines of text.

Is this possible with JIG (without using Nextgen)?

Thanks for your help and information, Michael

Yes but you will not have pagination. 1100 images split to 45 ways is fine without pagination.

Title and more importantly: description can be added to objects in RML if it senses that JIG is also installed.

OK, thanks a lot! 45 galleries is the start now, will duplicate in 3 years I think. But thanks a lot for the answer, I know how to get the job done.

No problem. As long as one gallery doesn’t try to show more than 500 pics, it should be fine.
