Hey wpbuddy, How are you? I´m interested in your Rich Snippets WordPress Plugin. I’m the owner of Techenet, a technology news site . I would like to know your opinion about the usefulness of your plugin on my site and if you plugin is full compatible… Can you take a look?
Best regards,
Alfredo Beleza
PS: I also sent you a message through your profile page
Hi Alfredo,
thanks for asking. I’m fine. I hope you’re fine, too!
It depends on what you want to achieve with this plugin. What’s your intention?
The plugin can help you to “prettify” your search results on Google. At the moment Google supports the following Rich Snippets: Reviews, People, Products, Businesses and organizations, Recipes, Events and Music. (Read more about it here: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=99170). Maybe not every single snippet is good for you.
I have seen that you’re using something like a star-rating on your review posts (ex. http://www.techenet.com/2012/03/review-ao-nokia-n9/). With the Rich Snippets WordPress Plugin you can replace this star rating with a short code that automatically adds the blue stars depending on your rating. If you are familiar with HTML and PHP it’s possible to design the star rating the way you like it. For this you just have to edit the pre-installed star-rating short code.
The short code will add some special HTML -Tags (called Rich Snippets) which are readable by search engines. For example, after Google has crawled your page again they will display the star-rating right beside the search results (Watch this for an example: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=146645).
But note: There is still no guarantee that rich snippets are shown in your search results. It still depends on the search engines whether to show it or not.
I hope this helps al little bit so that you can make a decision on your own
Greetings
Hi, my site is in spanish, is there a way to use this? I’ve used a plugin like this before but having the info in english looks out of place and I know this is must have right now… is there a way to use it in other languages just display spanish to users while everything still works in english?
Hi ridgecity, and thanks for your comment. I hope you’re well.
Of course you can use the snippets in your own language. For this you have to change the translations inside the source code of the snippets.
For example: Just open the “Review”-Shortcode an edit the HTML /PHP Code the way you like it. Watch this image for the example. I’ve marked the english words for you. Just translate the code and save it. It should now be in your own language.
If you’re familiar with HTML or PHP you can do even more. You can rearrange the complete structure, you can remove some snippets or you can add other snippets, too.
I hope this helps. And if you need more help, please don’t hesitate to contact me again.
Greetings
I bought it, this is a Five Star Plugin for sure! I don’t know much html and php, but I installed it as is so I can see all it does, totally recommended! =)
Hi ridgecity,
thank you so much for buying my plugin and for your comments as well. If you need help in the near future regarding this plugin, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I wish you all the best for your projects. Greetings
Hi, I’m trying to include the event rich snippet, but I can’t seem to find the words to do it =’( ...
http://www.polisonico.com/events/mana/maybe this is too simple but I’m just a writer, is there a way to have the snippet inside a square so it looks formatted?
Dear ridgecity,
thanks for your comment. I don’t really know what you exactly mean. Do you want to create a border around the html code? Of course you can customize every single shortcode the way you like it.
For this you can use the HTML/PHP and CSS textarea field when you edit the event shortcode (Watch this screenshot to see what I mean.
As an example you can use the following snippet in the CSS textarea field of the event shortcode to a) create a border around it and b) to indent the text a little bit (this is what “padding” means).
.rswp-event {
border: 1px solid black;
padding: 1em;
}
Hope this helps.
Greetings
hello from Greece, Sorry if i bother with my ’’begginers’’ questions! I own the video centric site (www.judo.com.gr) which have thousands of categorized video posts (youtube & selfhosted). First of all can i use your plugin regarding my posts? and if yes what is the benefit i am gong to have with it? Thank you in advance Takis
Hi vakata, and thanks for your comment.
No worries about your “beginners” questions. This is why I’m here: trying to help you getting the best out of the plugin. And I can even learn from your questions to creating a better user-experience
So thank you for this!
Of course you could use structured data on your videos as well. The benefit would be that a preview-image would show up in the search results. But I see some problems here. Whereas there is a rich snippet for Video Objects (you can find it here), Google does not support this officially at the moment (Read more about this here). This means: It just does not show up in the search results. The reason might be that Google want’s you to use their own platform (YouTube) to share videos with others.
You maybe know that search results on Google hitting YouTube always show up preview images. This is because YouTube also uses the above mentioned VideoObject Structured Data (As an example I have searched inside a source code of a video page on YouTube. Click here if you want to see the screenshot.. But as I said above: This maybe does not work on your own webpage at the moment.
I hope this helps
Greetings to Greece
hi again, Thank you very much for your informative reply! I will take all these under consideration and i will talk with my developer. Regards Takis
Can you show me a google listing of one of your sites?
Hello kemrich and thanks for your comment. At the moment I can not because the demo page went online just one day ago. I think it will take some time till Google indexes these sites. Hopefully after that I can show you a “live example”.
At the moment you can test the demos with Googles Rich Snippet Testing Tool on your own.
Greetings
Hi kemrich,
it took some time till Google showed it up but here we go: A live example of the rating snippet

Which snippets are supported?
Hey Plugins24, and thanks for your comment.
On their support sites the Google-guys wrote that the following snippets are supported:
- Reviews
- People
- Products
- Businesses and organizations
- Recipes
- Events
- Music
It also seems that Google wants to replace the “People” rich snippet with their own Author-Snippet to show the Google+ profile picture beside search results. For this you can find another plugin here: Google+ Author Information in Search Results.
Please note: It belongs to Google if rich snippets are shown in actual search results for your website.
I hope this helps Greetings
