FYI, our use case is a community site where 90% of the events posted will be by SUBSCRIBER role users. We use BuddyPress + Reign Theme on Elementor.

Firstly, the good news is that even without adding that PHP code, the tab in the group for events IS present. However, I still implemented the code with WPCode.

Here are the hiccups. Please note that I might have missed some things from your documentation, though I have checked and tried to minimize the questions I could answer myself. These are those I cannot:

1. BUDDYPRESS GROUP EVENTS SHOWING ON MAIN [STEC] PAGE a. A SUBMITTED event for any PUBLIC, PRIVATE, or HIDDEN GROUP shows on the main [stec] event public calendar page. This means NON group members can indeed subscribe to or be furnished with information about events they shouldn’t be able to see.

b. Next issue is that public group events are also available in the MAIN event calendar [stec] page and on the activity page, and in the back-end under the list of events. I think the event should appear only where it should be, which is in the group itself. AND post an update INSIDE of the group itself, not the general activity newsfeed or on the STEC shortcode page.

I get that these could both be solved by NOT using [stec] on that page, but I could not find the correct shortcode in your documentation, which would essentially EXCLUDE buddypress groups from the parameters list e.g. [stec … exclude: “buddypress_groups] or similar, which would ensure that the group events aren’t visible on the overall full calendar.

2. ACTIVITY PAGE EVENT LINK PUSHES OUTSIDE OF GROUP PAGE When clicking the event activity message INSIDE the group, it opens to a new page. This, in turn, creates a push to be outside of the group and no navigation to get back to the group.

I think this is flawed, as clicking that I think should take me to the in-group tab for the events with a URL such as: “domain.com/groups/groupname/stec_event/event-slug”. However, it is “domain.com/stec_event/eventslug”. So, from a UX standpoint, the user is now on a single event page and not in the group anymore, which is confusing if they want to resume discussion in the group. Can this be resolved? Or am I missing some setting that would be able to circumvent this behavior?

3. YOUR PHP CODE BEHAVIOR a. Your PHP code has “require event permission” “true” which doesn’t have any effect, the event is already on the other mentioned places anyway, and within the events backend, there wasn’t a clear option within the event to approve it (it was ignored).

I changed the same to “false” and it made no difference to the event behavior or where it appears, or whether it is a scheduled event, either way. (was logged in as admin at the time, but still expected to see a field to allow approval) ~ perhaps I missed it?

b. Is there a way to make the timezone match the user’s timezone (our users are international)? UTC is in the code, but there’s no timezone offset command?

4. OVERALL QUESTION: a. Is it possible to edit the kind of event notifications that make it to the global activity newsfeed? (e.g. if someone edits a typo in the event, it shows each time as an edit in the activity, and that will become annoying). Please let me know if there’s any way to avoid this and choose exactly what will make it to the activity thread.

b. Is there any way to make the organizer listed as the User who posted the event? What Elementor block could I use to do that? I know I can add Organizer – but that seems to be something we have to set up on the backend. What I’m hoping for is that the event author can add themselves (and maybe other users as the Hosts of the event in a block, so anyone with questions can use a message/comment or can reach out to them via direct message within Buddypress. Is there any functionality that is remotely similar or could facilitate any part of that?

c. I’ve looked so many times for this, but how can we make the create new event submission form show UNDER the event list instead of on top of it within the groups and on any place where the events show. I spotted something that seemed it would allow this, but it didnt seem to work.

I’ve just noticed that events assigned to private groups have public permissions, which they shouldn’t. It is possible that the new BP version changed something. I will fix this problem this week.
