I am trying to block spammers and attackers using the htaccess file but nothing I seem to do there works. Can you post the proper syntax for Apache2.4? I have tried everything I have seen online and it seems IP addresses cannot be blocked via the htaccess file. Suggestions?

1) There should already be a.htaccess file, and you must enable showing files that begin with a dot.
2) Ask your hosting provider to block an IP in the Cpanel.

Whoops, my fault. There was two files; an .htaccess hidden file, and a non-hidden htaccess.txt file. I edited the wrong one. Lol! I should have known better. Thanks for the reply!

Open the Linux terminal or log in through SSH. Run: crontab -e Add this code to the list: */5 * * * * php -f {PATH_TO_SCRIPT_FROM_ROOT}/cron-job.php > /dev/null 2>&1. Replace {PATH_TO_SCRIPT_FROM_ROOT} with the full path to the file, e.g: /home/playtube/public_html/cronjob.php Save and exit. If you are using cPanel, please follow these steps and replace the file name with cron-job.php, and make sure the cronjob runs once every 5 minutes.
