Please add below custom css inside our plugin’s custom css section.

And regarding the other box do you mean other fields other than name and email? If yes then currently only name and email fields are available.

But I did not understand yet… The “refresh” problem is solved, but now the button is not shown to “already subscribed users”. How can we control it so the plugin knows we’re “already subscribed”? Do I have to add another plugin so the user can (or have) to log in to see the button?

Right now, the button is gone so, there’s no point in enabling “Always Show”.

Is this a bug or my mistake? I need my subs not to leave the blog to download the file, for marketing purposes.

Thank you for replying us back. The always show option is useful when you want to display the form to already subscribed users too. If you disable this option, then already subscribed users shall see the download button.

That’s the point, how can we control “already subscribed” users? If a person enters the post and add any valid e-mail (even if not their own) and click subscribe, the e-mail goes to the subscribed list and the download button is unlocked, so the person can download. That’s one point. And the person doesn’t have to be logged in Wordpress or anything. Since the plugin doesn’t have a log in funcion either, how does it know that I am the same person that put the e-mail a while ago, so it can unlock the button only to me?

And no, it’s not working that way. The option is OFF (meaning I want the button to be shown) and when I enter the same e-mail or any other, now it only displays the message saying the link was sent to that e-mail, and the button does not appear, since thet’s no way to know if the person is subscribed in this action.

Thank you for the explanation. The download button will only show when the subscriber has verified the subscription by clicking the download link that has been sent in the email.

Please check once by clicking the download link received in email and let us know if it shows the download button afterwards or not. That way the subscriber is verified.

And our plugin don’t have any login integration which is also not required we guess because the download link shall be visible to the verified subscriber but not to the site admin or logged in user.

But there’s an option called “Double Opt-In” so we can choose not to verify the subscription. In my case, I don’t want my users to verify, so they can download straight away and not leave the blog.

Thank you for the reply. The purpose of the double opt-in feature is a bit different here. If you have enabled that option, then the subscribers email address won’t get stored in the database and download link won’t be sent to the entered email address until they verify the subscription. The main purpose of that option is to comply with europes GDPR regulations regarding opt-in

We are a bit unclear regarding what you are really trying to achieve. So do you have enabled double opt-in feature and you want to use the double opt-in verification as the verification of the subscriber for displaying the download button in the site?

Ok, here we go:

There’s this option: “Double Opt-In. The description says: “Please check this if you want to send the download link to subscriber only after clicking the subscription confirmation link which will be sent in the email as soon as the subscriber subscribe.”

When I read this I thought: “I don’t want my users to receive the download link ONLY after confirm the subscription”, because they would have to open ther inbox and click it, leaving the blog. For marketing purposes, this is bad, since users can leave the blog and not return. Said this, I thought leaving it OFF, would imply that users would subscribe and not need to confirm it, unlocking the Download button with “Always Show” off too.

So, I left this option OFF and kept my configurations. I tested every other option and came with the perfecet form for my needs with “Always Show” off, and verified there was an error regarding refresh and all, so you guys took notice and fixed it. Great.

Now, I wanted to unlock the button to “Already Subscribed Users”, so they can read the post, get out and in again, and the download button still be there, meaning they’re subscribed and can come back whenever they want.

But that’s not what’s happening. Like I said, everyone who submit an e-mail would unlock the button, even if they did not confirm it. So, it’s not verifying if it’s subscribed or not.

And after the update, if I leave or not “Always Show” on, the download button does not appear.

So we would like to explain once again what we had implemented in our today’s update. Previously, the download button was showing even though users entered any random email address without any verification.

So what we did was verified the subscribers when they download once from the download link that they receive in the email. So once they download it by clicking the download link received from email, even though they leave the site and come back again, then they could download the file using the download button that will be displayed in place of subscription form.

So as per our understanding through your explanation, you have already enabled the double opt-in option so you want to display the download button for the subscribers that has been verified once through the double opt-in confirmation right?

If yes, then please let us know and we will implement it and release an update tomorrow. But before that we really need your confirmation

No, I said I left if off, because I don’t want users to see the button or receive the link ONLY after confirming subscriptin.

Previously, the download button was showing to random email adress and, if you left and come back, it would still be there. Now, the button doesn’t appear at all, because “always show” is useless. It’s OFF, meaning i want the button to appear, not the form to everyone and still doesn’t work.

I’ll shorten to clarify:

I need users to subscribe without confirming (for marketing purposes) and unlock the download button so they can download in the page, even if the link is sent to the email. When the user leaves the page, and comes back again, he/she should be able to see the button again, because they’re subscribed.

Its starting all over again As we had already explained the main purpose of double opt-in option which is not being currently used for download purpose.

Here is the step wise explanation regarding how the download button will show and what we had implemented in our latest update.

1. User enter the email address. 2. The download link is sent to the users. 3. User downloads the file using the download link received in the email. 4. The subscriber is verified after they click the download link received in the email. 5. Users refresh the page with subscription form and will see the download button instead of subscription form.

And please note that for subscriber verification to work after the download, the “Encrypt Download link” shall be turned on. Please check below screenshot.

So now as per your requirement, what we can add in our next update is.

1. User enters the email address. 2. The email is stored in the database and the subscription form is replaced by download button instantly without page refresh.

If you are still not clear then we will need to make a video to explain And if you think we are still missing something then you will need to make a video for us to explain

Ok, let’s shorten again:

1st -

If “Always Show” is ON, the download button will never appear, because it will show the form forever.

If it’s OFF, Download Button will Always appear, leaving the page, closing tab etc. It will only work if you use a different browser and, in the moment you click submit again, the button will stay forever too. That’s problem number one.

2nd -

“Double Opt-In” is obsolete because, if it’s OFF, no one needs to confirm, and download link will be sent anyways and still no Download Button will appear, because I can only send e-mails with “Always Show” ON, since OFF goes back to problem number one.

That’s what’s happening.

Okay, lets discuss the 2nd case only and lets omit the Always Show option and Double Opt-in option.

So we are now assuming always show option is turned off and Double Opt-in option is turned off and encrypt download link option is turned on. Can you please confirm if all the options are like that way in the general settings?

After confirmation of above configured settings, please follow below steps and we will just need your confirmation but not the explanation to finalize the download button display mechanism.

1. Enter the email address in the form and subscribe. 2. Check if download link is received in the subscribed email. 3. If received then click on the download link and download the file. 4. Refresh the page with the form and is download button showing now or the form is showing now?

Please check the video which shall make you the process more clear.

Please just confirm by following same steps, the download button is showing for you or not.

After your confirmation then we can discuss further regarding what you actually want.

The main problem is: When download button appears, it forever stays. If I leave the page, close browser, etc. So, how is it verifying that I am the person who put the e-mail, got it?

And, Double Opt In is just needed to unlock the button but, if we unlock it, triggers the problem above.

So, in every case, it doesn’t matter what options are on of OFF. If we enable Always Show, download button will be there forever.

I’ll try to make a video and show it.

Correcting: If we DISABLE Always Show.

The thing is: If Always Show is OFF, download button is always there. There’s no way to send e-mail. So, there’s no way to test.

Please verify that: If you ever sent an email and the download button appeared, (with Always Show OFF), the button will be there always and forever. And that’s the problem. It doesn’t need Double Opt In, because Always Show “conflicts” with Double Opt In, since there’s no point in confirming subscription if the download button is still gonna be there after.

Shortening: I need users to enter the post, subscribe and unlock download button. individually (That’s the most important thing). When they leave the post or close tab/browser, the form should be refreshed in order to enable Form again, or verify if that person is the same who subscribed and unlock the button ONLY for them, not to others.

So, right now, there’s nothing getting verified, because download button is there to anybody who wants to click it, and I’m losing lead because of it, got it? When Download button is there, no one can subscribe anymore, because it’s still there. If it’s not attached to the blog login, then anyone can use the download link.

The correct form would be:

The user subscribe - the button appears - they download.

If he/se wants to download via button again, they should log in and the button would appear. Otherwise, it’s not working that way because the download button is frozen there and anyone can download without subscribing. It’s better not to have the button like it is now, but sadly is just what I needed.

We think we are more clear now regarding what you are trying to tell us. May be we were unable to clarify you properly.

Did you check in different browser or different computers just to verify if the download button is being shown for every site visitor or only in the browser where the subscription was done and download link has been clicked which was received in the email?

If download button is shown to every site visitor then the subscriber verification through download link received in the email defeats the main purpose.

The download button won’t show for everyone but will show only in the browser from which the subscription has been made and download link has been clicked which is received in the email.

And yes the download button will show even after closing and revisiting the site from same browser because there is no use of subscribing the same user twice and it will be useful for the person who has already subscribed to download it easily.

BUT just to reconfirm you again, it will only show for the users’ browser in which the subscription has been made and verified by clicking the download link received in the email.

Yes it is, thanks! But users won’t do it, right? There should be a solution for doing this automatically, because users may not be in their main computer every time and may want to revisit the page. Because of this, they would have to insert email again, and that could be a problem. All of this was questioned just to nullify any possibility of a flaw.

We really appreciate your concern regarding the plugin’s betterment. If users visits from any other computer then they might need to re-enter their email address in the subscription form and they will receive the download link again but they won’t be duplicated in the site’s subscriber database.

But all this mechanism is programmed just to verify that the download link is sent to the verified subscriber and also the site owner can prevent the download link to be passed through email or just through link sharing. We believe you understand this.

Re-entering e-mail could be boring for them for an infinite amount of reasons, so I wanted to prevent that by that “verification process” like I said. But that’s OK. I don’t know what you guys are going to do about that, but I’ll try to counter that “flaw” with something.

Thank you for writing again. Currently there isn’t an option for unsubscribing but we can add this in our future updates. We can add generate an unsubscribe link in the backend which you can send in the email as unsubscribe link.

Thank you for the link. We understood the mechanism. However our plugin also sends the download link in the email after they opt in. So can it be considered as the double opt in too. If they have downloaded the item then it will show an indication in the backend subscribers list.

The problem to solve is that the e-mail address that should get saved, needs to be confirmed before it gets used for any commercial / advertising activities, by EU-GDPR / german law. Sending the DOI email is fine by law, as long as the e-mail address gets deleted after a couple of days of inactivity / not beeing activated. But I can’t send the download link before the user activates the subscription, as this is already considered as actively advertising.

Since you were not receiving the email, can you please check once in your spam or junk folder of your email service?

And regarding the error message and success message not being displayed after the form submission is because you might have kept it empty in the backend settings due to which the message is showing blank. Please check the fields highlighted in below screenshot for easy reference.
