I have searched for this but can’t get clarification from the previous answers I’ve read… The ReadMe file has clear instructions to update and they make sense. I understand that for updates via WP Admin you have stated to use the Envato Market plugin. I have updated via the normal WP Admin Updates page a handful of times and I don’t think anything has broke. I’d love clarification on if you advise against WP Admin Dashboard Updates page updates or if it’s okay to do. I understand the push for the Envato Market Plugin from a sales point of view, but if it’s doing the same thing as WP Admin when updating the plugin, I’d rather not have something else in the Dashboard confusing clients from simply editing their content.

I am not sure what you mean by updating with the WP Admin page. We do not have an official updated via this method so I assume you are updating/replacing the existing files by uploading the new plugin zip file?
The Envato market plugin on the other hand notifies you of available updates for all envato plugins and allows one click updating.
Otherwise you can freely use the update method of your choice assuming you use the auto website key it really makes no difference

The plugin forex not do file encryption. You can encrypt files in storage by using the Dropbox add on since drop box is an encrypted storage platform.

Hello the plugin can encrypt the following field types- Supported Field Types: single line text, paragraph text, drop down, multi select, number, checkboxes, radio buttons, name, date, email, phone, address, website, list, time, quiz (users choices/answers are not marked while viewing entry without view permission).
The plugin does not encrypt files of any kind ..including images. You can encrypt uploaded files in storage by using the Dropbox add on since drop box is an encrypted storage platform. This uploads the files to Dropbox where they are passively encrypted and have wherever access permissions you assign and can delete the local server copy of the file.

This is a gravity forms function. Please uninstall and reinstall tyff Ed plugin to retry in case if install error. Also please try disabling other gravity fonts plugins to check for a possible conflict .
Hello Thanks Was not entirely sure what you meant by ‘tyff Ed’ but reinstalled the GFEF plugin but as soon as the license was entered the entry page load times increased significantly. The debugger created a massive page of code too. We don’t have any Gravity Fonts plugins installed.

Hello, I wanted to alert you to something strange that just happened with the Gravity Forms Encrypted Fields plugin. I was just building a new form in gravity forms and the encryption plug said I needed to register my plugin out of the blue. I have been using a registered plugin for 5 months or so, which is why this confused me. on the advanced tab all the features and buttons disappeared and a link to register the plug in appeared. I clicked the link and it asked me to click a button to register my plugin. My purchase code was already in the field where it was supposed to be. I resubmitted my purchase link and all seems ok now, but that was a shock. Do you know why this happened? I will continue testing to make sure this interruption did not impact any other functionality. Thank you.

The plugin continues to encrypt normally if registration is needing to be verified past initial registration, and resumes normal operation after verification without any changes to settings.

Put the user role into the individual fields view permissions in the form editor for the fields you want to give them access to instead of giving them global access on the settings page.

For anonymous users, only through the decrypted merge tags. So in your flow if you can use merge tags, the decrypted tags will always print decrypted data.

I need the correct permissions to display an encrypted nested form within gravitypdf. The primary form decyrpts perfectly, but the nested forms show the ‘Encrypted Field Restricted’ Notification for encrypted fields.
Hello, The sample template for decrypted PDF’s we provide does not allow for nesting forms as our decrypted merge tags do not support them currently. You would need to create a custom PDF template in PHP to support the nested form also printing out with its own decrypted all-fields tag within the existing decrypted all-fields tag.

I have a multilingual site, with danish and english language. But.. My problem is that this is two seperate installations. domain.com and domain.com/en/ – It’s made with two installations by choice.
Now my customer ask me to make the same form on both installations (i thought they only wanted it in english). It would really suck for me if i have to buy another license. Is it fine if i use one of them as a developer site?

We have purchased this plugin to secure the form data, but I am running into an issue. This form has a ‘file upload’ field and we are using the dropbox add-on to transfer those uploaded files to our dropbox account. I am using the ‘gform_dropbox_folder_path’ hook to override the destination folder configured on the Dropbox feed. Basically for every submission with a file attached, it’s creating a new folder with the name and entry ID as the folder name (like this format firstName-lastName-entryID). It’s working fine before this plugin was installed because right now all the field are encrypted. In dropbox now, it’s creating a new folder, but naming it as ‘Encrypted-Field-Restricted-Encrypted-Field-Restricted-32’ (screenshot https://snipboard.io/wxrOFz.jpg). In the admin dashboard, under the ‘GF Encrypted Fields’ Settings, I have added in these values to the MERGE TAG box (screenshot https://snipboard.io/hJ7koW.jpg) to decrypt the Name (first and last name) and email address. 1:1.3,1:1.6,1:1.3:U,1:1.6:U,1:4,1:4:U Form ID: 1 Name field ID: 1 Email address ID: 4
Those are decrypted in the notification emails, but in my php file using the ‘gform_dropbox_folder_path’ is not decrypting the name. Please find my code below:

I should state that our support does not officially extend to cover custom development.
But to try and help in brief, there are developer decryption functions to assist with PHP encrypt and decrypt. They are linked to and fully documented with examples at the bottom of the plugin instructions. See the “DEVELOPER FUNCTIONS AND CODE SNIPPETS” section in link.
The merge tag unlocks do not control programatic encrypt or decrypt (unless the programming incorporates merge tag processing) so this is separate from their function in notification/confirmations where you are actually using merge tags.
The one function provided to use would be the gfef_developer_decrypt($entry_id, $field_id). The ”$field_id” is the entry key to the input data from the given entry object, so assuming the field is required or you check if it has any data first, you can always just get the decrypted field data for the full name by assigning the name in a single function if you’d like instead of pulling first and last separately if you use $fullname = gfef_developer_decrypt($entry_id, 1);
Otherwise you can continue to pull them separately with the individual 1.3 & 1.6 for ”$field_id” if you would like.
you would not use the rgar function anymore with this function since this pulls specific field/input data directly from the entry decrypted already so I believe this would essentially replace your rgar function with
$fullname = str_replace( ’ ’, ’-’, gfef_developer_decrypt($entry_id, 1) );

Apologies, I misspoke earlier as I was thinking about the merge tags when I had said you could pull the full name with just the field id. The input values for multi part fields in the entry object are only under each input id as the associative array key, and are not accessible under the field id as they are with our decrypted merge tags. So you do have to pull them by each individual input id key as you have.
The entry keys are string values so the quotes are needed. I’ve added an inline strval() conversion for using integers in the field_id passed to the gfef_developer_decrypt function to the list for the next update so the $field_id can accept either string or integer values for better accessibility.

You would need to format your notification emails into any html as you would like them to be. If you removed/replaced any custom html formatting you can restore it. Our decrypted merge tags only print in text or html data where they are used and do not change any surrounding formatting. The ALL_FIELDS decrypted tags are actually html formatted themselves.

Do we only need to purchase one license to create encrypted forms for each client website?

When a form is submitted, does the client receive an email norification about the submission and a clickable link to view the email or what is the process?

A license is required per website. If you are selling the single website as an end product, an extended license is needed. The Envato licensing info has more details if you search licensing.
The config of notifications per form sent is done in Gravity Forms core and depends on what you would like to set up to happen. It is possible to send an email with a link to log in to view the entry yes. You can also send an encrypted pdf requiring a password to open it with using gravity pdf. Or send unencrypted data in an implicitly encrypted email over a secure TLS/ssl connection. Or send out a PGP explicitly encrypted email requiring a password to view it using a plugin like PGPmail. It all functions the same as normal GF submissions and depends on how you want to handle the notifications pending your security needs. We provide merge tags which print in decrypted field data to use in these or other applications instead of the standard GF merge tags which are restricted to send out any encrypted data accidentally by default.
A Pre-sale question. For this ‘Gravity Forms Encrypted Fields’ plugin, does it also encrypt ‘upload’ fields? Users will be uploading an important pdf file, so will it be safe and will it encrypt these upload fields?

No. You can use the Dropbox add-on to for secure encrypted storage of uploaded files with access control via Dropbox. The add-on can auto delete your local server copy after the transfer to Dropbox.

The Dropbox functionality is separate from our plugin. Our plugin does not encrypt file upload fields.
Our plugin is for encrypting user data in fields other than the upload field. There is a list of supported firms types on this plugins main description page towards the bottom of the description.

Hi. I have a somewhat urgent issue – i had a site at newcastleproms.org.uk domain and i have moved it to another host. AS part of this move, i moved to newcastleproms.co.uk domain. Now, as i also have a staging site, the plugin in the .co.uk site says licenses exceeded, as the .org.uk us using a licence. but the .org.uk is now just an alias of the .co.uk ! I really need this changing ASAP as all the data is missing ! Thank you in advance

I don’t think it is stopping the encryption from working but since the error has been there for the last couple of updates, I thought I’d post it in case you aren’t aware of it.

What version of the plugin are you using ?
It sounds like one of your files may not have been updated properly or was duplicated in an update. Please make sure you have only the files from latest plugin version (5.7.31).
Remember to check your website key after changing out files or install if you for some reason had to use a custom key that requires checking.

Make sure you have 5.7.31 though and not just 5.7.3 because the .3 version which was only released for a second had a important issue which is corrected in 5.7.31.
I downloaded it fresh, when I did the above and the version that downloaded was 5.7.3? The plugin isn’t showing an update available either?
Ah, I see. It looks like it was a quick silent update retaining the same version number. You should be all set with your fresh download, but I will push out a versioned .31 anyway. The only change is that .31 is documented in the change log within the .read me file.

Unfortunately we cannot do anything directly from our end as it is an issue with the updater but not the update/plugin itself.
If you could check your plugin files and let us know what file(s)/directories are left duplicated for the plugin after the update we can try to look into it with the auto update plugin authors.

Ok I see. I checked but I didn’t see any duplicate folders/files and the files all had the same modified date, so it looks like everything was updated? I’ve turned off auto updated for this and will try manually updating it next time to see if it happens. Thanks again

I just updated from 5.7.1 to 5.7.2 and the data in my form entries were wiped out. I restored from backup to restore the entries. Is it possible there’s a bug in this update?

The only time data can be not properly decrypted after an update is if you used a custom website key instead of the auto generated one per the setup instructions, and then did not check and restore your custom website key after the update as required when using a custom website key.
Your data was not missing/wiped out but simply not being properly decrypted because the custom website key did not regenerate due to some possible error, and was not manually re-entered. When this occurs, the auto key takes over and of course that will not decrypt your custom key data so it can show up blank.
We strongly recommend that if you decided to use a custom key during setup that you manually decrypt any data under it and switch to using the auto key as directed at setup by re-encrypting your data after switching to the auto key, or you will have to perform this check and restore of custom key after every update.

Certainly. You can update with confidence as long as you check the custom key immediately after every plugin update.
Rest assured an update of our plugin does not ever delete database data, so if you ever find data “missing” after an update it is only due to a custom key not being in place after the update. Re-entering the custom key will restore the data access to the data encrypted under the custom key. It’s a good idea to pause form intake while upgrading any Gravity Forms plugins on a live site to assure proper update and functionality before any new submissions can be entered.
The custom keys always attempt to regenerate after a plugin update, but as with any plugin update, other things can hamper the update process and for our plugin it can result in it not regenerating properly, so they need to be checked after each update of the plugin. This is not true of the auto key as it can regenerate automatically after any update whether the update was hampered or not without the need to ever be manually checked.
I did as suggested (always scary even with backups!) and I was able to upgrade fine. THANK YOU for the speedy and accurate support.

we tested the plugin and it worked with normal encryption, but when we started to test the asynch mode it crashes the settings panel (loads white blank page only), in the GF form entries view there is the encryption password input field but it doesn’t do anything when we input the asynch password there.
We tried again with another staging version of the same site and from clean plugin install straight to asynch mode on SSL (no other settings) and same thing. WordPress 5.6.1 in use with GFEF 5.5 and GF 2.4.22, PHP 7.4.14.

Which specific settings panel are you referring to? The encrypted fields settings page, WP, GF?
Gravity Forms plugin is enabled all the time, not disabled in any point. Settings panel where you do the GFEF settings for example enable the asynch password.
Can you please send us an email from our contact form (click our user name) and we can take a look at your DEV site. It sounds like something is conflicting. Your setup is the same as one of our test environments snd we are unable to replicate the issue occurring on your setup on our end.

Hi, I believe I have configured the plugin correctly – I turned on encryption on certain fields on my form and I see the ‘encrypted’ message in the email notification. However, I’m expecting to see the encrypted string when viewing my db (either via phpMyAdmin or Adminer) but I can still see the fields that are I marked encrypted showing data in open text. I thought the plugin would encrypt data while ‘at rest’ and will not display the data in the db tools. Am I missing something?

When properly setup and configured, the submitted form data at rest is encrypted as you are looking for.
Is this newly submitted data after setup of the plugin and turning encryption on, or is this data that was pre-existing to the plugin setup?
Reviewing the complete plugin setup instructions at the top of the plugin settings page will assure you have set it up properly. Testing and verification of encrypted data, as well as manually encrypting any preexisting data are all covered there.
If you find that during or after reviewing and following the setup in full that you have a question on a step or something is not functioning, we can assist with any specific steps and or look into your site configuration or any given errors present to see why that may be.
