Is it possible to achieve this with your plugin:
I have for example 7 cateogries. I set up the widget and it gets the custom post types from that category from which the custom post type is?
EX: Post 1 – category 1 on the sidebar it shows 5 posts from category 1
post 4 – category 7 on the sidebar it shows 5 posts from category 7
Is it possible to do that automatically?

I am not sure I understand correctly, please elaborate.
If you set a widget to show posts from custom post taxonomy/category it will show posts from that category. It will show newly added posts too.

Hi, if you need to style the title you can use the css class for the title. You can find that in the code inspector of your browser.

The widget appears to work when I insert it into a sidebar. However, I really need it to work inside of a post.
I am using the “Page Builder” plugin (from SiteOrigin) to insert widgets into posts. When I attempt to use the Smart Post Lists widget, however, the list of categories and other taxonomies does not appear. After reading the other comments on this site, I tried raising the memory limit in php (from 64M to 640M) but that didn’t help.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The plugin follows the WordPress i18n standards so you should not have any issues with the WPML plugin.
The plugin uses a widget to include its content on your site. If you can include a sidebar in a template file then you can drop the widget in that sidebar. Here is one way to do this.
Is it possible to create a custom ordered list? I wanted to show the Top 10 movies at the cinema every week. Right now, using a custom post for movies. Can’t use popular or something for filtering as it’s not based on site views but based on what cinema provides.

One way to do this is tag all the posts you want to show with a certain tag. Then select that tag when creating your list.

Hi, It is a separate widget that you need to set separately from the latest post widget. You can select the latest posts from a certain category or a set of categories by selecting those categories and ordering them by date.

Hi, You can’t choose posts individually. But you can put a tag on the posts you want to select and then select that tag.

Is there an option to add a “read more” link or any custom link at the end of the posts list—either to load more posts in that category, tag, etc) or a link to any custom url?
The plugin currently doesn’t have such option. You will need to edit the template files in order to add the read more link.

Just realized it works in Firefox but not in Chrome. Maybe it’s just my Chrome – it’s been acting strange lately. Anyway, I forgot to ask you a question. Regarding use of filtering by tags, does it auto-fill as you’re typing in the tag? Reason I ask is that I use a lot of tags and it would be easy to misspell.
Chrome also works for me. The tag selection is a list of tags with checkboxes. It does not have the auto fill.

Thanks for the nice plugin! When I read the comments I can see my question was asked 2 years ago. I wonder if anything has changed since then.
I want to display post that appear in 2 categories. Not the post that are in either one category.
I read that using tags might be the solution for me. I can add tags to post and select a category and a tag. However I still get everything in that category. Not only the posts in that category with that specific tag. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Barbara,
The plugin uses the default WP filters for post selection. When you select two categories the logic is all posts from that categories. Same with tags and combinations of tags and categories. The situation with authors by default in WP is a bit different. When you select all posts from category1 and category 2 then select an author this means all posts that are in those categories but only from the selected author. I thing this is the only option here to play with the authors filter.
Thanks for the quick response. I did work a little bit. However when you select 2 authors no posts are shown. 
I have a recipe blog. For instance in the category sweet snacks: some recipes are both Paleo and “hormoonfactor”, Paleo or “hormoonfactor” or no specific diet. I want to create a list with only paleo recipes and a list with only “hormoonfactor” recipes.
I therefore created 3 new authors: [Paleo] [Hormoonfactor] [Paleo Hormoonfactor]. For the Paleo list I select in the widget options box: Category: Sweet snacks and author: [Paleo] and [Paleo Hormoonfactor].
Unfortunately nothing is shown then. When I select 1 author it works. However this does not solve my problem.
Do you have another idea how to solve this? Or can you make an adjustment to the plugin in the future?

Playing with authors taxonomy is the only thing that come to my mind. We are currently working on a new plugin with tons of more options and almost unlimited possibilities in this area. Once this is released we will take some of the functionality and add it to the Smart Post Lists as well. But I can’t really say when is this gonna happen.
I’ve a large db and the post category select don’t charge. My php memory limit is 512M. How can i insert manually the category ID?

You need to raise the php memory_limit. Contact the hosting provider to do that for you. You can’t manually insert ids in the plugin interface.
