feature request: being able to sort the order the resizing presets are in. (move up / down)
Thanks! Your request has been added to my todo list, this is indeed needed feature.
Hello, pleiadene! New sorting feature has been added in the recent update 1.0.5.
great news, thanks for listening to feedback.
Excellent update!
New version 1.0.3 available now. Changelog:
- Added: PNG quantization option with selectable number of colors;
- Added: selectable dither amount option;
- Fixed: error with convert functions and messed file list (thanks to matteousit);
- Fixed: redundant convertion to the same format;
- Fixed: added ImageMagick’s dependecy library to prevent errors;
- Fixed: reports are saved regardless of the setting;
- Fixed: animated GIF convertion to any format generates images of every frame;
- Fixed: few possible erros while converting;
- Fixed: white background instead of transparency while using crop;
- Improved: GIF convertion to any format now works smarter;
- Improved: ImageMagick core updated to v6.8.6-3.
Program is executed from the standard Documents folder, which, by definition, is write-read.
I’m talking about path to images, that caused problems. Where are they located? Did you try any of three solutions above?
unfortunately yes. Images are located in root folder, secondary hard drive, read write permission.
I am unable to reproduce the errors with the current amount of data nor on the production or a virtual machine. All your test files in the same locations works perfectly on my side. If you ready to work further on this issue, please let me know.
”. If you ready to work further on this issue, please let me know.” I do not like being teased. I do not buy software to do beta testing. if this is the spirit in which they are offered for sale on themecanyon this is my last purchase. this software is clearly an alpha release. works perfectly? let others decide.. If you are ready for a refund, please let me know.
I’m not asking for beta-testing. You have individual problems, that should be considered on an individual basis. I’m not just want to waste your time, I want to help to fix your problems on your computer. And of course I can not do it without your participation.
If you don’t need this then you should open a support ticket and ask for refund. Thanks.
matteousit, I suggested another solution by email. Even if you have already asked for refund, please try it.
Nice App. Useful if you upload a lot of images but, my opinion, too much buggy to be reliable. Tried to optimize images from a Folder (Windows 7) Images are called myimage-01.jpg, myimage-02.jpg and so on. Program change the list of images to optimize during optimization process and forget to optimize some images.
Result ? Some images optimized, others not.
Do you have a new version ? I’m waiting otherwise a refund. This is an optimizer and is failing this job (for now).
http://i39.tinypic.com/2ppbyo4.jpgHello and thanks for purchase! I’m very sorry that you are experiencing problems. Of course the new version will be released. Can you please contact me via my profile and send your images that related to problems? Thanks.
You’re welcome. Thanks
Problem solved in 5 min. What else can I add? programmer reliable, polite in their responses and a program that mirrors my expectations for my website (progressive jpg + optimization). SmuShIt is now useless.
5 stars, shame there are not more
Greetings and thanks for support
1 problem solved, nice support but unfortunately there are more bugs unsolved. Unfortunately i don’t have time to do beta testing. If i buy something i expect something working 100% otherwise i search for freeware where i don’t have support and i don’t have expectation on the quality of a program. Problem solved creating alone 2 bat files that Create temporary directory for JPEGS/PNG, Cycle through .jpg/.png files and run jpegoptim, JpegTran and pngout but it does not seem quite correct: I purchased a product that claim to offer the same results (more results and give more options) and right now it works and doesn’t.
The problem is not in the program. Your files are apparently located in the folder in which the write is forbidden. This is the default behavior of UAC (Windows Vista, 7 & 8 ) in such cases. I offer three options for solving this behavior, 1) move the files to the directory where write is authorized to user account, 2) run the program as an administrator, and 3) use the export to an external folder, for example, in the documents of the current user.
New version 1.0.2 available now. Changelog:
- Added: new options in JPEG tab to handle metadata (EXIF, IPTC, XMP, ICC);
- Added: “fit to box” resizing method;
- Added: new {rnd} filename pattern for resizing, that generates random chars and digits;
- Added: new {id} that is replaced by id of the size entry;
- Fixed: issue when one size was checked and then edited;
- Fixed: issue when optimization is running and user remove some file from the list;
- Fixed: issue when you cannot save size if it’s width of height not a multiple of two;
- Improved: limit of thumbnails dimension is reduced to 50 pixels from 240;
- Improved: added information in Recommendations section of the help file;
- Improved: to avoid errors now you cannot save size without filename pattern;
- Improved: added information in the help file about new options.
Actually for a long while I’m looking for an image optimizer for PNG files. But Any I tried failed to compress more than 2 – 4 percent regarding to my editor. Can I demand a sample to check Solvium.
This is the file that you can download. http://pmemonde.com/test.png Could you please submit;1. Same size + transparency losless compression
2. Same size + transparency lossy but pleasuble quality compression
Thanks for your reply in advance Hope to find what I look for.
Thanks for your interest, karaziki. Your test image with no doubts is not suitable for high optimization because of it’s nature. This is photo-realistic image and better suitable for JPEG format. Moreover, this is exactly lossy JPEG converted to PNG. If you simply display it on your web page and want to preserve transparency it is better to use JPEG + mask (with gives you around 1,2 MB for JPEG + 15 KB for mask).
The second moment — while working with big PNG files, with a lot of colors (around 47 thousands in your case) the optimization and compression can be very long (from 5 and up to 10 minutes on a good machine). But anyway, here results:
1) Lossless: 2973,04 KB —> 2799,71 KB (5,83%) — link 1
2) Lossy: 2973,04 KB —> 1893,48 KB (36,31%) — link 2
The second option (color quantinization) will be available in the next versions.
Impressive…
Do not underestimate the second result. Size is great. I’m already hopeless in loss-less compression rates to get better result than my editor. But, what developers understood of lossy compression is color reduce to FIXED value 256. This was my problem.
Now, your lossy compressed image looks like color quantize to 2048 colors + anti-alias.
Yes, my original image is transformed from JPG as you clearly see JPG compression traces on color edges. And I especially left it with non-smoothed dots to see your software handle it or not. Since it is obligated in resize operations. Actually I was sure that you’ll compress with a smoothing algorithm
Your result is what I already can gain but. Still I need a complete software for all types (PNG,JPG,TIF). And unfortunately (regarding to my test over maybe 40 softwares) seems there is no professional software that matches “all basic” needs instead of millions of useless needs.
Ok, hope the expected savior for professionals is Solvium. I would like to ask a few more. And please note that, I’m not trying to make you bored for just 6 USD
Useful compressor for a professional designer can go up to 60 USD. The question is, can it cover professional needs or not. And I can help and support you in translations, interface and with many ideas. Just please save us, I mean web designers, from the rage of compressors and optimizers
So what needed in the world of mass producing web designer are;
1. In overwrite option, can we drag and drop many images from many different folders and make Solvium overwrite all with compressed? Or just limited to one folder?
2. Can we define default compression profiles to each format (PNG, JPG etc.) and in batch mode all formats will be processed regarding to these defaults?
3. Is there and option to anti-alias or not in compression profiles. Or doing it by default?
4. Is there an option to interlace in PNG? (in web compression sometimes needed, even increasing size)
5. The resizing options… There is 4 different strategy to resize.- Resize with crop (what I saw in your screenshots) Crop from the sides of image to fit defined aspect ratio, after resize. (It’s great for thumbnailing in web applications)
- As the most common strategy “fit to box”; Like given parameters are 500w x 300h so the image is resized “with keeping aspect ratio” to fit in space with max 500 in width and 300 in height.
- Other which especially needed in web applications is, to resize with background like; Given parameters is 300×300. So the image is resized like “fit to box” but output is 300×300 under any case. The empty space caused by aspect ratio difference is filled with defined background color by user (color or “transparency”)
- And other is to exact resize without regarding to aspect ratio (actually, this is very rarely needed)
6. Does it support multi-threaded CPU usage? (note, maybe there is no option for processing single image due to the restrictions of compressor libraries in market. But in batch compression it is possible, without that days will not get enough to finish)
7. And algorithm… There are many compressors libs in market. Some of them completes task in 5 second some of them run up to 7 minutes. There is a huge difference… Doesn’t matter which one in use. Actually I would like to ask is; How long did it take to compress my sample image? And what CPU used?
8. And last, when will the version with “color quantization” released? Since it is the only efficient way to compress PNG
Note: If you want you can even make it automatically optimize/compress efficiently with a simple logic. Write me for details.
9. As I read in comments, you’ll add option to strip or left the EXIF/ICC etc tags option in next release. So no need to ask.
By the way, a compressor/optimizer which matches all these simple but obligated needs do not exist. Or hiding very well grom google to avoid me to find
But you can find many compressors with useless features maybe even offering to prepare you a coffee. And actually all these features are seriously simple except the “color quantization” that you already decided and interlace if it is not supported by the library that you use.
So hope to see a rising professional application from CodeCanyon. Best regards
Thank you very much, karaziki. I waited such comments over the years. I’m always looking for new ways to improve my programs or other works, so your suggestions are very helpful. And of course I am not bored at all
If you have any more ideas I’m glad to listen them any time! In my example, colors of your test image was quantized to 4096 without dithering. And now answers on mentioned questions:
1. You can drag and drop any images from any folder, if you choose to Overwrite – program will overwrite those files where they are, if you choose External folder – Solvium will export all the files into the one external folder.
Maybe in some next version you also will be able to drag and drop folders itself, but for now I don’t think this is a high priority.
2. For now profiles embedded in settings and applied globally. For example, you can choose 1 of 5 strategy for PNG optimization, 1 of 6 levels for PNG compression, quality for JPEG, mode for GIF optimization and some additional settings. Each profiles has their own performance/compression ratio. For example, you can choose “Rapid” strategy for PNG optimization, which is fastest and “Insane” level of compression, which is slowest, but gives you best compression. Or you can choose “MAX” and slowest optimization and disable compression at all. So through the combination you can get 30 possible profiles (for PNG).
If by profiles you mean some profiles of the options (for fast switching) then this not implemented yet, but is very nice idea.
3. There is no anti-aliasing. Maybe you have some good examples in which cases it can be helpful? Or you mean dithering?
4. For now, by default only two optimization strategies have Adam7 interlacing. Rapid (Fastest) and Default (Balanced). I can make a new option to force interlacing.
5. For now 3 options from your list is implemented. Cropping (thumbnail), fit to box and exact. If you have some live examples of other useful methods, that would be great.
6. Improvement of multi-threading in my to-do list, but for now Solvium is working with a single file at a time.
7. Your file was processed for about 5 minutes at the default settings and about 10 minutes at the maximum settings. Used Core i7-950 and virtual machine.
8. The next version 1.02 will be released with a few bugfixes and with better JPEG metadata stripping, but in the 1.03 I will make color quantization available (it’s already working, but it requires some cosmetics changes and visible settings). So I think in about one week from this day. I can’t write you personal message to get your ideas, but you can contact me via profile page. And on wich language you can translate? It would be great too!
9. Yes, this options will be released in a few days. Plus a more selective choice of what markers to remove from JPEG files.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas! I will be more happy if you have any others.
I think that you misunderstood 2 points. And thanks for your reply for all others.
1. You misunderstood the article 1. Doesn’t matter too much can we drag and drop folders or not. Sure can e nice for photo archivers. But what I want to mention is: Drag and drop images “from” many different folders to application. And application will overwrite (if selected so) all images to their own folder.
3. Ah yes like dithering…
4. Interlacing in not a big deal. Even one profile will be enough for nearly all users. Or two profile selected regarding to their speed of processing.
5. What I mean of resizing is;- ORIGINAL IMAGE http://pmemonde.com/org.jpg
- Resize with crop is as you do in thumbnailing
—-no need link-—
- Fit to box is I think standart in Solvium like: For 300×300 http://pmemonde.com/ftb.jpg
- And what you mean of exact is like that? For example exact 300×30 with red background defined http://pmemonde.com/exc.jpg
Or like that, 300×300 without respecting aspect ratio http://pmemonde.com/asp.jpg
Regards
1. I understood, this is already implemented. As I said you can drag and drop any images from any folder and run one optimization process of them all.
3. PNG quantization will have dithering setting.
4. Default profile is the most balanced one and designed just for the average user.
5. Thanks for details! I’m mixed up “fit to box” with my “constrain proportions” method, that already in the program. So I added “Fit to box” resize method in 1.02 version. Now it has:- Fit to box: New image will fit into the requested size. Width and height will be calculated based on settings.
- Constrain proportions: Resizing will be based on the smallest fitting dimension and preserved original aspect ratio. Width and height will be calculated based on settings.
- Crop: Crop image. Good for making thumbnails.
- Exact: Shrink or enlarge image if it necessary, but not constrain proportions.
Another method with defined background I will implement too, but a little bit later.
Thanks to you my to-do list is now huge
Thanks!
what does this have that ImageOptim, Pngcrush, ImageAlpha does not?
I need it to optimize file formats without stripping the color profile, is this possible?
Please, read the list of features carefully. ImageOptim and ImageAlpha is for Mac. PNGCrush is just a optimizer (not compressor) and not the best.
What about the second question, I can easy add such option in the next update.
not sure what it’s called but it’s of outmost importance that my photos keep the sRGB profiles and that it does not get stripped away.
I will add option to preserve ICC profile and EXIF data in the next version 1.02. Thanks for suggestion!
great, please make it possible to choose which ones to preserve, for my usage, i want to preserve ICC but strip EXIF data… others may have other choices.
does the current version preserve Color Profiles yet? I am interested in buying it if it does…
Hello, pleiadene. Yes, as I promised since version 1.02 you can preserve ICC profile. Just uncheck checkbox in JPEG options.
great, also, don’t let the negative “wa wa wa, it’s not perfect, why are you selling it” comments discourage you, few software is 100% bug free at launch and it seems your going out of your way to fix them and add features… so many products that drift in space after being launched.. glad to see yours is not one of them… buying it in a couple of minutes.
purchased as promised… nice work, keep it up
Thanks for inspiring comment! Yes, at the start we have no way to test software on all systems in all various conditions, as the buyers do. But with their help I’m always trying to fix all the bugs and make the product stable and suitable for everyone. So if you meet any problem or you have any suggestions please contact any time!
hmmm what resizing type do you recommend? I have no idea what’s the difference… i assume your answer will be, that depends on your image… but well, mention a few examples please…
You mean resizing mode? (fit to box, constrain proportions, etc.) I’ll make a quick tutorial with examples today and I will write here when it is ready.
that’s a good idea too but i meant the lancoz lancoz sharp etc.
That was my first thought. This is standard filters from ImageMagick. There is few samples around the web, you can google it, or see here: http://www.rubblewebs.co.uk/imagemagick/examples/filter.php http://mariovalle.name/postprocessing/filters/natural.html and some advanced information: http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/#filter
my eyes are not good enough to notice any difference
Yeah so it is. The difference is more mathematical rather than the visual. The most notable visual differences will be on the images with many details or patterns (brickwork, grid, tree branches, etc.). You can experiment or just use the default Lanczos for reductions and Mitchell for enlargements.
thanks, the last sentence was useful.
thank you for the continued updates and support.
Good idea!
