The plugin automatically builds the gallery using standard HTML <img> tags, which means it relies on the browser’s native image support. Unfortunately, most browsers (like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge) don’t natively support the .heic format, so even though the files are uploaded, they can’t be displayed on the page.

This limitation isn’t specific to the plugin itself, but rather to how browsers handle images in HTML. For that reason, only common formats such as .jpg, .jpeg, .png, and .gif will appear correctly.

If your images come from an iPhone or iPad, we recommend converting them to .jpg before uploading to ensure they display properly.

Ok, thanks, I suspected that might be the case. I want to be able to upload via FTP straight from my iPad / phone to my folders so may see if there is a way I can server side convert somehow.

I see the issue, there’s a feature for this but you would need to make a small adjustment in the code of the plugin:

open the class_auto_photo_albums_shortcode.php file and find this line:

$settings['grid']['boxesToLoad']                     = floatval($album['boxes_to_load']);

and right below that add this line:

$settings['grid']['minBoxesPerFilter'] = 10;

and that’s it, clear your browser cache and try again

Yea I did convert the images into another file format, would just have been nice not to do it. Yea I guess it is not such a used format.

I found an app, for windows that did it for me and can do batches of files for free – I’ll just turn on my computer and find the name if anyone else might find it useful.

It is free and it is called Irfanview – inside the app, push B or find it in the menu. Batch conversion

The good news is that you can easily set a custom storage path outside the plugin directory by navigating back in the folder hierarchy using ../../. This allows you to specify a folder elsewhere, such as within wp-content/uploads.

I think I see the issue, the plugin uses the “name” variable to order the images (not the “image” variable), so in your config.txt try replacing it for this:

I see the order being applied correctly now, in masonry layouts the order is “Top to Bottom” first and then “Left to Right” like this: https://imgur.com/a/OCHimzl

If you want your images to be always ordered “Left to Right” then all your images must have the same aspect ratio, which the plugin can do it for you with this JS setting:

 globalThumbRatio    : '1x1',

you can change the ratio to any value, for example 200×300

then replace it for this:

array('jpeg', 'jpg', 'png', 'gif', 'webp')
