Unfortunately, there is no way to update without losing edits in an automated way.
Once you modify files they are modified, once you update, you put the original ones back on, so you will lose all the changes (this is how all the software is working).
You would need to save your changes and re-apply them after the update (or do not update, as some people choose to not update as well).

Unfortunately, this is not something as easy as “support custom field”, as by definition, a custom field is custom. If you want a new phone number field, you code a phone number field with checks based on the phone number, and not a general field which accepts anything. If you want a new email field, the same goes for that. You can not code a custom field that will handle all the needs with proper checks against those fields, as you ultimately dont know what that field will be used for.

This means that you do not have enough memory on the server side allocated, in order to process the request.
You can either allocate more memory, or clear out the statistics for the user in a faster manner, so that it does not fill up that quick.
