Hello dear author, I have the plugin Advanced File Manager installed in my Wordpress site. The plugin is updated but I have a big trouble. I have a .txt file and into this file I have a JSON code (the file ISN’T .json extension, is a .txt file with a json code inside, and the txt file is UTF-8). I uploaded the .txt file from my PC to a location in my web using your plugin, so far so good, the problem is that I need to edit this file some times but if I edit the file with the plugin using (using ACE Editor, CodeMirror or TextArea, no matter which) the code inside gets damaged after I saved, the inner code of the file is filled with \ signs, making the code unusable. Of course I make sure each time I save the file, I’m selecting UTF-8 which is the original encoding of the .txt file.
I’ll post here a little part of the code, so you can see the error:

Wordpress automatically sanitizes the data requested via post/get. You can disable it by replacing your “connector.php” file inside “php” folder of the filemanager plugin with this one:

Hi Supportteam, I installed the File Manager in 2018. It worked very well. Now I uploaded some new files into my Wordpress Backend via FTP. Each User gets one new file in his folder – this file is individual. But it does not show up in the Filemanager Backend. Neither for Admin nor for users. What can I do? I bought this product to solve exactly that job: I update usualy the files via FTP and users download them in the Filemanager-Frontend. I would not like to deinstall it – as I have a lot of Users and want to avoid to re-create all.What can I do?

Make sure you are uploading the files to the right folder with ftp. You have to assign that folder to the users and admin for them to see it.

Yes, there is a secure path option, which wont allow users to see the direct url to the file. There will be a secure url which non-logged-in users wont be able to use.

I notice that when logged in with user group permissions set to Read/Upload that a user has a right-click option to create a subfolder within an assigned folder, but there is no option to delete or rename the subfolder from within File Manager. Is there a way around this? If not is there a way to dis-allow the creation of new folders for users with the Read/Upload permission ..which I assume is one level up from the Read/Write permission?

Read/upload will only allow users to read files and upload files, they cant change anything in the folder.

Read/write allow everything, including uploading, editing, creating files and folders. Read/Upload only allows to read, download and upload files, users cant edit or create any files.
Read/Upload is usually used for users to share files with each other but cant delete or modify any files.
Dear author, unfortunately the plugin is totally buggy on my website. I have disabled all other plugins, as well as caching, but it keeps having problems. Sometimes the menubar buttons become inactive, sometimes the filelist that I embedded on a page becomes empty, besides syncing with the media library does not work, etc. Could you please refund my purchase?

Just a presales questions. Are files that are added via the File Manager Plugin stored in the default Wordpress Media Library? In other words, are they indexed by the WP search engine or a custom search engine like SearchWP, or are they stored in a different place / as a Custom Post Type? If the latter is the case, do you know whether this CPT is compatible with IvorySearch or SearchWP?

There is an option to sync files with media library. If you enable it, all the images uploaded through the filemanager will also show up in the media library, so it will be available for other plugins to search or use them.

Yes, the sync is done automatically, no need to manually do anything.
Cloud Manager plugin doesnt have media sync feature, the files are stored on dropbox, google drive etc, they are not present in your wordpress folder physically.

I followed the instructions for the Dropbox setup you sent me. But when I click on View drives I see only one folder from the Dropbox and it is empty. On my Dropbox account, that folder is not empty.

Hi, I have two problems with the file manager plugin. First, it won’t upload more than 2 files at the time. Second, it won’t unzip files. I upload zip file and when I extract that file it creates empty folder with the zip file name. How I can fix it? Thank you.

Filemanager wont limit the maximum parallel uploads, if thats the case, it should be configuration issue in the server. You can increase the max_file_uploads in php.ini to fix it.
For zip file, make sure ZipArchive library is enabled in php modules.

Hello, I have a few questions about modifications.
1. Can the front end file manager, the top bar which first opens with icons only, be switched to open by default with the text next to the icons, so there is no need to right click and switch it?
2. Is it possible to remove the “Permissions” and “Kind” columns in list view?
3. Can column “Modified” be changed to not show time and just show date (ie mm/dd/yy)?
4. For some reason I had a couple images that have imported sideways and then when you view them it rotates to regular way and squishes them. Is this just me or a known issue? Also, it seems when I delete an image from the front end File Manager it remains in the backend Media Library, is this normal?

1. Yes, you can change the default icon view to columns view in the settings page of the filemanager.
2. You can hide the permissions and kind columns by adding this css in your site:

3. Hiding time wont be very easy, you would have to dig through code to make changes for it.
4. Images should be imported as is, filemanager doesnt modify any files when you upload them.
The media library could have the file after removing from the filemanager when wordpress makes different thumbnail sizes for the uploaded images, this can only be avoided if you disable the thumbnails but thats never a good idea, the theme will always show full size images even when displaying thumbnails.

Instead I was talking about the icons at the very top – The Toolbar. Where you have options to Create Folder, Upload Files, etc. Can I make it so that section opens with icons plus text instead of icons only as the default.

This is a new feature, there is no option to set it by default. But if you enable it once, it will remember it the next time too.

Hi, I was wondering if you had a suggestion for a plugin like Imsanity or SmushIt so that customer cannot upload large files(I tried both plugins but they do not seem to work with the File Manager Plugin). Seems when i upload large files File Manager imports them and rotates them sideways – thats how it looks in the small thumbnail – then when you click to enlarge it rotates back to normal but squishes the image and changes aspect ratio.
If you dont actually need the images inside the media library, you can disable sync with media library option in the filemanager settings page.
Otherwise, Ewww has pretty good compression, you can try that with this plugin:

Hello, I am trying to create several pages that each use File Manager. I would like for each page to be accessible by “Everyone” but only with “read-only” access. People who are not logged in can view all pages and all files. So, for example, I used this Shortcode to display the file manager for everybody. [filemanager foldername=”wp-content/uploads/Adonai Center” groups=”Everyone” access=”r”]
I then tried to setup logged in Administrators to have “read-write” access to all File Managers on all pages so I tried to go to User Groups and assign the access to all folders. However, when i am logged in as Admin I am unable to Upload, Delete, etc.
So I am just trying to figure out what I have done wrong. Thanks!
If you need to use multiple shortcodes in the same page, you need to restrict shortcodes for user roles, to define which shortcode is visible to which user, here is the guide:

I have the 7.4.1 version of your plugin running on Wordpress 4.9.1 (WP soon to be upgraded, its in dev mode right now). I have 2 issues needing assistance
1) I setup different shortcodes on different pages that only allow access to certain folders i.e. [filemanager foldername=”hdfls/lvl2/examplefolder”] “hdfls” folder is in the wordpress-install directory. Then I restrict access to a specific custom user group (MediaResources File Editor) in your User Groups menu i.e. mediaedit’s folders = “hdfls/lvl2/examplefolder” Then when I log in as a test user for that usergroup I get “Invalid backend configuration or no folders have been assigned to you. Readable volumes not available.” when going to the page with the above shortcode. Have I set things up incorrectly in shortcodes, or the back-end, or both? BTW there are different per-page “permissions” settings built into the Woffice theme I’m using https://themeforest.net/item/woffice-intranetextranet-wordpress-theme/11671924 that restrict who can access what page based on user-group, could this be conflicting with your plugin? I had this working over a year ago when it was first setup. I can access the Filemanager view as WP administrator and navigate through all the different folders the different groups have access to so that part works, its just the per-usergroup thing not functioning.
2) Issue 2, is your new 7.5 version compatible with Wordpress 5.4 or just 5.3? And I see no plugin upgrade button, is upgrading a manual process? Simply upload and replace plugin files, no database changes?

Yes, the plugin is compatible with new wordpress versions, you can download it from codecanyon and replace the existing plugin, all the settings should persist.
There can be conflict with woffice theme since it has its own user restrictions which can block filemanager from accessing admin_ajax.
Upgrading the filemanager could help.
I switched to WP’s 2015 Theme. Still WP 4.9.1 and filemanager 7.4. Hard refresh and the errors persist. upgraded to fmanager 7.5, with 2015 theme just filemanager GUI with no folders and no errors. Same thing had happened when I went to Wordpress 5.4 and fmanager 7.5 previously. Is it possible Im using the wrong shortcode method? Should I be using [fm_access group=’group’] shortcode instead of the UserGroups settings page?

For instance, for the group/user-role “officials” I have a specific page setup where they go to their folder, the single shortcode being used on this page is [filemanager foldername=”hdfls/lvl2/docs_officials”] I had set things up in subdirectories so someone with a different higher access level can view all the filefolders in the /lvl2/ directory as apposed to just one folder. Im assigning each group to a folder in the filemanager user group settings (BTW i also tried 2017 theme w wp 4.9.1 and fmanager 7.5, same deal but I get 3 Failed to load resource 404 errors in inspector to do with Jquery.min.js )
Yes, you have to use the group shortcodes like I mentioned in the above comment. If you need to use multiple shortcodes, you need to use the restriction shortcodes, pasting multiple shortcodes in the page wont work.
I only have ONE shortcode PER page, not multiple shortcodes

Hi,
User role slugs are limited to 32 characters because of the string size in the database, if you pick a longer slug, it wont be able to match with the selected user role.
You can fix it by going to the database, find the filemanager database, and change “type” and “access” to varchar (64) instead of varchar (32)

There are default folders for each users inside uploads folder where if they upload a file, an email is sent to the admin, also if admin uploads a file to that folder, an email is sent to that user. That folder is not shared though, its unique for each user.
You can upload files to those folders, and that user will get notification when the file is uploaded.

If you change the root folder to outside the wordpress, the files/images cant be previewed since they are not inside the your url. Your site url is the wordpress folder, the parent folder of wordpress are not accessible from the browser.
You can still download the files, but browser cant find them through public url.
