Hello, what does Visual Composer integration imply? Will I have to use shortcode and upload the file using Media, or does it have the full flow integrated?
Hello, I’m using Cornerstone page builder with X-theme and can’t really figure out how to embed the documents. Can it be done in any other way than in the backend?
It’s setup so that either you use the page builder or you don’t. So, edits outside Cornerstone will not work, i.e. stepping out to embed a document will prevent me from stepping back into Cornerstone with the edits intact.

From what I understand, these plugins do pretty much the same things, or have I missed something vital?

Dropr essentially is a plugin to access all the files hosted in your Dropbox account from WordPress. Embedding documents is an only extra option there. We have not tested it with CornerStone either.
If you would like to exchange Embed Any Document with Dropr, please go ahead and purchase Dropr and submit a refund request for Embed Any Document.

I have found a way to make it work with Cornerstone (not perfect, but it works).
Another question: What if I instead of the full embed, I would like to have an icon or image that people can click to open the document viewer? Can that be done or can you please consider implementing it?
The plugin currently does not let you add documents as links or icons. But it’s one of the popular demanaded feature that we already started working on it.
You can possibly expect the feature in our next major update.

Hi there, have just purchased pro version of the Embed Any Document plugin because the free version was so great. I’m having one issue that I thought the Pro would fix, but didn’t. That is that I have a ton of Google Docs queries running on every single one of my pages even where I don’t embed any documents causing it to slow my site considerably.
Activating and de-activating this plugin alone causes my site to go from an A or B speed rating, down to E or F, and 200+ requests with it active.

I can’t see this being normal, so is there a way to resolve this?

We have checked your site and we have some potential fixes for you.
1. It looks like the documents you have embedded are getting added to every page below the footer area. Are you using a plugin to make them load on modals? If yes, please look into its configuration and make them load only on the required pages.
2. The load time can be considerably improved if you can host your files in your Google Drive or Box.com account and embed from there.
Please try them and let us know if the issues are fixed.

Which option will allow the fastest load times? Dropbox or Google Drive?
Google Drive of course! Box.com also does it great.
can i disable download file option and just keep the embedded file option with this plugin?

When you are using the default document viewers (Google Viewer or Microsoft Office Online) the download button cannot be disabled.
But it is possible to disable the download option if you choose Box.com to host the files. Box.com is a very secure file hosting platform that has a user-friendly embedding system with options to disable/enable downloads, add passwords etc. You can host and embed up to 10GB of files for free with Box.com

Great plugin for what i want. But i want limited download, example some post file i allow for download, but some i don’t want. There is anyway to do this? (Hide or show download button in frontend. If can not hide or show, what i can do to total disabled download? I will purchase if have sollution for this. Thanks

Thanks for reaching out to us. The answer is going to be a little long.
The plugin does not come with a native viewer to display documents. We are making use of the document viewer services from Google, Microsoft and Box.com for a seamless experience. The main disadvantage of this method is that we do not have the control over any features that comes by default with the viewer. Even though the plugin comes with a download link management feature (to show/hide download link underneath the embedded documents), users ultimately will be able to download the documents using the download button that comes by default with the viewer.
But there is a workaround that will work for you if you can use Box.com to host the files. Box.com comes with its own viewer. It is highly reliable and comes with privacy settings using which you can disable download options, add passwords, etc (screenshot).

Sorry, but you cannot hide the download function from Google Docs Viewer and Microsoft Office Online.

I agree with you. I get that question almost every day!
Actually, we can hide the buttons using a simple javascript hack. But anyone with basic knowledge of HTML will be able to crack it and download the files. In that matter, even Google couldn’t stop users from downloading the YouTube videos. It is very hard to stop people downloading the files that are already up on the internet. Box.com somehow did it with its unique encryption system. We are keep looking for a fix. Until we find a reliable solution for that, we will keep the download button.

If available, you should write that code. Then in download package (only who is purchased) have documement guide to hide download. Important is hide download documentation. Video is almost adds. No one care to allow people download. If anyone sale this stuff, they only display like 2mins for trial view

Unfortunately, we do not have the privilege to change any feature that comes with the viewers. The gray border also comes by default with the viewer. You could try Box.com if you are concerned about its looks. Box.com comes with its own viewers with two theme options.

Such issues happen rarely when there is any temporary server glitch with the Google Viewer. We are also helpless when it comes to their server issues. The viewer is a free service provided by Google Docs and our plugin is only helping you to access the service and use it effectively at your convenience.

Hi. I am building a page that requires me to embed hundreds of PDF’s. Loading is becoming a problem. Currently I’m hosting the documents on Google Drive and using an embed shortcode on wordpress.
A few questions:
1. Is there a way to stop the documents from all trying to load at once when the page opens? Like they have to click on the doc they want to load it? Similar to how you would have to click the play button on an embedded video to actually play it.
2. Is there a way to remove the “pop-out” button in the top right of the document that opens it in drive, allowing it be downloaded? Perhaps a shortcode edit? Making a statement int he embed shortcode “false” perhaps?
3. When I’m not logged into my Google Drive account, it crashes all the embeds showing that I need to request permission. Obviously I don’t want users to have this issue but at the same time, these documents are hosted behind a user login. I don’t mind the document list on my Google Drive to be seen by the public but I definitely do not want them to be downloaded without permission. How can I show the embeds on my webpage (without the user having to be logged in to their Gmail account – with permission- a) but still not have the permissions on my Drive so low that anyone can see and download them from my drive?
4. What’s the best way to host and embed the files for the best website loading time, especially on a page with a plethora of embedded docs? Any tricks of the trade you guys have stumbled across?

1. Currently, the plugin does not support lazy loading. But I think it will make a great feature. We will definitely consider adding it as a feature in our next update.
2. The “pop-out” button comes by default with the Google Docs Viewer service. Google does not let us disable or alter any option that comes with the viewer. So we are also helpless in that.
To manage the privacy of your documents in a better way, I would recommend you to try out Box.com. Box.com comes with solid privacy options that will let you disable/enable downloads and password protect them if required.

Users will not be able to edit embedded documents.
The document viewers only let you preview the documents, they will not let you edit the documents embed.

Google Drive API does not allow editing documents from an embedded view. But of course, it works with Google Docs if you share a document publically with edit access.
