+1 for geeves comment above.

With regards to “and/or” issue above.

If one product, example laptop which converts to a tablet, has the shared categorical attributes: -Tablets -Laptops

The filter ‘And’ keeps Laptop open as a filterable option even if Tablet has been selected.

If I click to filter Tablets, I’m clearly not interested in Laptops. Furthermore, it would make no sense for my url structure to read:

http://mycomputersite.com/mobile-devices/tablets/laptops

The ‘And’ in this case allows for that url to happen, since the product in the above category example has both attributes.

In the end, some might want that functionality.

As an SEO, I don’t want it.

But in the end, it is subject to personal preference…

Enable/Disable And/Or as a user option on the backend would resolve the discussion :)

How is the update coming?

What your saying is correct but what you can’t remove the Laptop filter just because you selected Tablets because you might have a user who is looking for a product that is a Laptop AND a Tablet. So the filter needs to remain to allow them to select it.

For this scenario, setting the query to AND or OR will not make a difference – the Laptop filter will show either way.

But your right, its all personal preference and will be specific to your site.

We’ve added the OR query type back in. Just need to finish off a few things before we release. But just a not though – there is no enabled/disabled for the query type. You need to select either AND or OR otherwise the query won’t work.

Yes that is what I meant, select AND or OR thus enabling one disables the other.

Looking forward to the update.

Is it possible to change the Layered Nav widget query type to OR? AND creates overly complicated url structures.

Hi there,

Not currently. Working on it for the next update. But, i would have thought OR would be more complicated. With AND, the products are narrowed down, and the URL mimics this. With OR the products search is widened.

Hi there. I didn’t think it mattered either until our SEO professional said that for large WooCommerce product catalogues, AND creates too many combinations of URLs and Google ends up indexing thousands of pages.

I’m no SEO expert so I’ll defer to other SEO savvy people for more commentary here.

OR would create even more! The way Woocommerce works, once a filter is selected, if your using AND, Woocommerce will only show you filters that actually have products in them. So as you select filters, the number of extra filters you can selects gets smaller. With OR, this doesn’t happen, all filters are always available so that you can broaden the search.

Hi, cheers for the help via email so far.

Just a quick question really. I’ve tried using this along with yoast as I need to be able to control the other post / page meta data but when I activate yoast it overwrites the woocomemrce category data with a template and I cant see how to undo that.

Is there a setting that I need to change or is there another plugin that would be better and allow me to leave the meta data from your extension unchanged?

Cheers :-)

Hi there,

Fix for this is in the next update that we’ll be releasing sometime next week.

Cheers, Just FYI – All in One SEO works in combination with your extension I have found, once I changed a few options I now have your category meta data & the removed url base but also have control over my home page, posts & page metadata plus sitemaps etc.

Hi, I get this error in WP admin directly after activating plugin: (something about construction method which is outdated since 4..2.0)

Notice: Die verwendete Konstruktoren-Methode für WP_Widget ist seit Version 4.3.0 veraltet! Verwende stattdessen __construct() .../wp-includes/functions.php on line 3457

any idea?

Email me please and i’ll help you debug it.

hi, any news on this?

Emailed you.

Hi Ninja, before buy this plugin i would like know if i could remove /product and /product category ?

Thanks for your reply

Hugo

Hi there, You can only remove the /product-category at the moment.

Hi there,

Just looking for an ETA (this week, next week, 2 weeks) on 2 seperate things:

1) Breadcrumbs on product pages (will they show current category/click path)

2) 404 issue (my GWMT is completely lit up with 404’s)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Both will be released within the next week or so. Just a few little bits that we want to add to the update too but if they don’t get done in time we’ll release these two fixes as a smaller update and push the rest of the stuff back.

Hi, i noticed more than 9000 alerts on Webmaster tools for 404 errors. Categories with mixed attributes in most cases doesn’t work and this is literally killing seo with thousands of not found errors. If you add filters manually (i mean with wc seo layered nav) it works… the problem is for indexed results and links to urls made with mixed attributes. I also noticed that even some indexed results that were correctly working returned 404 after a WC seo settings update. I just edited the title, saved and boom…the same filtered result that was working one moment before returned 404. The strange thing is that if i add filter and categories manually with layered nav to match the 404 url everything works… after this procedure i am able to get the previously 404ed view… but this is not a solution.

Digging the comments i discovered this is a known bug for you developers, unfortunately this was not said before… in the end, PAGES ARE NOT INDEXABLE as in most cases they will return 404 when requested from a search result or a simple link. Google hates this so we can forget any seo improvement, in fact we get red cards from big G and very bad user experiences. Are you planning to fix this and give this rising plugin a true SEO functionality? Thank you.

Hi,

Yes we know about the bug and have a fix in place to rectify this. We’re just finalising the update and will have it rolled out soon.

Hi Code Ninjas,

i am interested in your plugin. It seems to be the perfect way how to filter products and have pretty urls at the same time.

I have 2 prebuy questions: 1) Are the filter´s results indexable by Google and other search engines?

So for example i have a filter result page: example.com/t-shirt/funny/blue with title “Blue funny t-shirt” Could i find this filtered result with Google or it is not indexed?

2) Is the page title adaptive? example: i choosed category “T-shirt” and atribute “Blue” – so the title should be “Blue t-shirt” and URL example.com/t-shirt/blue Is this right?

Thanks :-)

Hi there,

1) yes the pages are fully indexable. 2) the page titles are dynamic and are created on the fly as filter are selected. So yes if blue is selected the page title will be bluet shirts.

Hope that helps

i am using another plugin to manage import called woobox. it created urls but still has the ‘product category’ base in the url. 1) can yours work together with woobox after importing? 2) does it work if i import csv file to create products? such as amazon import via woobox

HI there,

To be perfectly honest i’m not too sure. It very much depends on how that plugin is creating the URLs. If its hard coding the URLS, then no they won’t work together. But if it uses the built in functions provided by Wordpress to get the URL for each category then they should work fine together.

Sorry i couldn’t be more help

I just moved from Premium SEO plugin, Yoast, WP custom meta tags to your plugin because I wanted individual category title, description, robots tag and keywords tag. i can see that your plugin does not output the robots tag and the keywords tag. can you add it ? it is something you will add soon?

Also, I cannot set these tages (as template or custom) for other taxonomies e.g. Pages, Product Tags,

I want to be able to use one SEO package for my needs, and most i am concerned about atm is these meta tags. Can you shed some light on these issues?

Hi,

Its is widely known now that the keywords tag is no longer used, hence why it has been omitted. The plugin does output the robots tag but only if you set the category to either noindex or nofollow otherwise no tag will be output. The robots default to index/follow if thee is no tag.

The reason the plugin doesn’t handle other taxonomies is because there are other more capable plugins that do a great job of handling the SEO of these parts of Wordpress. The reason this plugin only handles Woocommerce is because other plugins were lacking in features and functionality for Woocommerce specifically, hence why we created it. It doesn’t make sense to add functionality for say, only Woocommerce pages, and not for any other non-Woocommerce page. If we did that we would be duplicating functionality that other plugins already do. Our plugin aims to fill a gap that other plugins do not fill.

Hi Sir, It is widely known that the meta description is also not used by search engines but all the popular seo plugins still include it aswell as the robots tag even if its an index/follow and leave it up to the user if they want to output these tags.

I now understand your thoughts about bridging the gap left by other plugins but product_tags are more a woocommerce thing and therefore shouldnt it really be included in your plugin ? and can you please give me the name of this other ‘more capable plugin’ that can handle meta tags on my pages (home page, about us, contact us) and product tags that can work in conjunction with your plugin id be greatful to know.

Hi there,

I’m not sure where you got that meta description are not used by the search engine. They are still widely used. When you search for something, the description that you see under the websites title in the results is the meta description.

The plugins that you were using (Yoast, Premium SEO, All-in-One SEO) are all capable of handling the meta tags for your pages. We use them extensively ourselves and they do a great job. Maybe you didn’t set them up correctly?

Hi there,

How can we remove the product count from the widget/filters?

Thanks.

Sure, I’ll try that.

Also, if you have something that I can add/modify in order to prevent the filter generated urls from resetting and being returned as 404 not found errors by WMT.

Mucho appreciated!

With regards to the 404. We’ve got a fix in place already. Just finalising a few things for the update and we’ll push it out soon.

I’ll email you the instructions for removing the count. The comment is stripping the HTML here.

It worked perfectly. Thanks for the amazing support.

Hi there, I’ve looked high and low to find a fix for this…

My category and product page titles show a trailing pipe ” | “

I can’t find where this is being generated from.

Any ideas how to remove it?

I suspect its your theme that adding it. Have a look at show the title tag is being output in your header.php file.

Hello,

There is nothing in the header.php that I can find.

The trailing pipe only appears to show up when I enable “Global Category Meta Settings”.

When that is disabled the trailing vertical slash disappears.

Not sure what I did, but it’s gone now.

Hi there, any possibility of adding the breadcrumb trail to the product page?

Anything is possible ;) But adding an image to the filter is a little outside the scope of this plugin. But it’ll give us a good excuse to finally get our own widgets plugin into development so we can make widgets even better with lots of other functionality, images just being one of them, and fully compatible with our SEO plugin!

Cool, then when can I expect the product page breadcrumb? I really want to ditch yoast breadcrumbs. They suck :)

A few weeks maybe. The updates in the works at the moment.

Great job on the plugin! Does what it should, and the guys at Code Ninjas do a great job on customer support. I was having trouble with the category pages on my website not loading fully, and they spend time looking at everything I had going on with my website and found out that it was a PHP time-limit on my server. Once that was corrected everything worked beautifully. Thanks for the help and the time spent diagnosing my specific situation!

Glad you got it working!

For my product categories I have entered custom titles and description but the title is not being generated in the source code.

In Woocommerce SEO Settings I enabled “Global Category Meta Settings” and set “Category meta output” to custom.

On the product category page I set “Enabled/Option?” to custom.

What am I doing wrong?

Sounds right. Do you have any other Wordpress SEO plugins enabled that might be conflicting.

I am using All in One SEO, but this was happening even when it was disabled.

Can you email me access details so i can take a quick look?

Is there a limit on filters? The 7th widget isn’t showing up.

Never mind – I didn’t have the attribute setup as a taxonomy

Sorry another question.

How does your plugin build its URL’s? I ask because I’m finding if I go directly to a filtered path it gives me a 404 but if I create it manually through the dropdown filters it finds products. And after that point I can directly navigate to the products.

I’ve shut off all caching to test. If you click on a link and it works go here http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/showroom-vehicle find a model and scroll down to trims and try clicking around.

http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/cars-for-sale/odyssey/ex/new

vs Building it

http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/cars-for-sale/ and build “new” > “odyssey” > “ex”

Hi there,

If your browsing the site for the first time, the links will be created on the fly as the widgets are displayed. The links are then saved for future use.

However, whenever Wordrpess/Woocommerce flushes its own permalinks, these link are also flushed and will need to be created again.

Hence, why you don’t get a 404 after you browse to the page manually.

However, Its been brought to our attention before and were working on a way to generated the URLs and keep them without having to browse manually so that these 404s don’t occur any more.

Do you have an ETA on this fix?

It’s in development at the moment. Can’t give a definite eta but hoping in a few weeks.

I have many duplicate page Titles after importing products, is their a fast way to change titles description?

You can change the page title of all products regardless of when they were added. Again you can use the template to automatically generate the page title or you can manually set the page title for each product.

Is their a tutorial pdf or video ?

I saw there’s a million questions about Yoast and working with your Plugin. I’m still confused most of the conversation is about Categories but the widget provided by your plugin relates to Attributes.

So when I set the title tags in either Yoast or WooCommerce SEO I see not affect on my pages.

http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/cars-for-sale/certified-pre-owned

I would like the title tag to be “Certified Pre-Owned – Jay Wolfe Honda”

Likewise this page: http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/cars-for-sale/accord/certified-pre-owned

Would be: “Accord – Certified Pre-Owned – Jay Wolfe Honda”

Am I missing a simple setting or am I infact not able to do this because I am using Attribute filters vs Category?

Hi,

In the SEO settings, you need to have the Global Category Meta Setting enabled. If it is not enabled, the page titles will not be modify. Let me know.

both are attributes

Is it possible or to change a setting to leave other attributes that are not selected visible? Right now if I choose “Model = Civic” I have to click “Any Model” than wait for the page to refresh if I want to change models from my current selection. Understandably the other attributes that had/have been selected also would be removed and I’d start over with another choice but allows a shopper to navigate more easily.

EXAMPLE SITE: http://hkc.rc2.jaywolfe.com/cars-for-sale

Seems like a fair amount of clicks.

Also can you add a feature to disable the drop downs with a slight load visual que to avoid people from clicking the second choice too fast.

I watched some users behavior on the site and saw people (many times) click “Condition” and before the page could change they attempted to select a “Make” but than the page refreshed and wiped their “Make” selection.

Hi there,

Funny you should ask this, we’re actually working on this exact functionality at the moment! It will be available for the next update which will be released soon.

I’ll look into adding a delay too.

Thank you for your reply.

Saw it in my email but can’t find it here – but I did want to clarify about the delay. I wouldn’t want a delay added. Just a visual element to inform the user to “wait – page is loading” after they select something. This would keep the frustration down I feel – partly my site is heavy but I think anyone would benefit. YITH’s filter I think adds a display:none to the products area and replaces it with a load GIF. Another plugin I played with added a little 1980’s snake loading bar. Either case it was nice to have.

PS After testing 5-8 “filter” plugins I picked yours, cuz it was the best for anyone reading this.

Sorry choice of word was wrong. I meant something visual exactly how you are describing. However, i was thinking more along the lines of disabling the dropdowns from being selected until the products for the selection has been loaded. The reason for doing it this way is because the container that hold the products on the page maybe be different from site to site so showing a loading icon that overlays the products may not work or everyone. Atleast by disabling the dropdowns, the have full control of what gets disabled. I’ll give it a bit more thought before i actually implement anything though.
