Testing a Sidebar Extension on the cPanel Community Forum

Hello everyone,

I’d like to test a sidebar extension on our cPanel community forum and get some early feedback from the community before making any permanent changes.

Our forum is available here: cPanel Community

What I’m Trying to Achieve

  • Improve navigation and accessibility of important content
  • Highlight useful guides, announcements, and key links
  • Enhance usability without impacting performance or readability

What I’d Like Feedback On

  • Have you used a sidebar extension on a forum before?
  • Did it improve or hurt the overall user experience?
  • Any performance or mobile-layout concerns to watch out for?
  • What type of content works best in a forum sidebar?

Testing Plan

  • Enable the sidebar on a limited basis
  • Monitor performance and layout behavior
  • Gather community feedback before final decisions
If you’ve experimented with similar setups or have examples of well-implemented forum sidebars, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and suggestions. Your input helps ensure improvements benefit the entire community.

Does your extension work with forum version 3.3.14?

https://ibb.co/cTQcRX5 This is what i’m gettng when i use right side bar

I’ve emailed you about this :)

Problem was from my side. Fixed!

Hello, does it work with v3.3.10?

“phpbb-sidebar-extension-responsive” stopped working after phpbb 3.3.9 version update. My phpbb forum won’t load when the extension is active.

Thanks for raising this, we have submitted a fix.

Any customers also having the same issue can re-download the new files from codecanyon (re-download item from downloads page). Overwriting the old files will resolve any errors after updating to phpBB 3.3.9

Thanks for the quick action. The fix worked well and my forum is updated and running fine now.

Thanks for confirming :)

I thought it was worth leaving a follow up comment as I have been using this extension for over a year and hopefully this will may be useful to others purchasers/potential purchasers.

So this extension is perfect as it comes for anyone that wants to put straight on their site and earn from. I did however make the two following tweaks to the extension .css over the past year because it was mutually beneficial to both me, as the owner of a forum, and to improve the users forum view.

1. Because my forum is long in length I made the sidebar adverts ‘sticky’ ie. they don’t move when the page is scrolled. It resulted in an increase in clicks on the adverts.

2. If using Google Adsense responsive code you need to set the size of the sidebars – width and height, so that Adsense knows the space available to work with.

Hope the above helps.

Well done on a great extension. Works extremely well.

I know this is a sidebar extension, but the ‘sidebar container’ area that shows the sidebar layout options on the demo site is the perfect location for an ad placement being central, below navbar and above forum sections, with the sidebars on both sides.

Is placements of ads in that area easy to achieve ?

Hi there,

Your best option is probably to use this extension for that: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/extension/ads/ :)

Thank you for your response, I will take a look.

like to add base-bal font awesome for icons for menu.

Hi there,

Unfortunately the fontawesome version is shipped in phpBB’s core, so can’t be easily modified :(

He does not answer emails, the item has bugs and he does not offer solutions.

Hi there,

The bugs you raised were issued caused by customising your forum beyond its core scope.

Our support policy is clear, we can’t provide support for customisations.

i can not add javascript code in sidebar using this extension

Hi there,

Custom JS is definitely supported. Can I ask what problems you’re having? :)

Before buying I want to know if it is possible to post recent posts, statistics, better posters, etc?

Hi there,

Good questino. These options aren’t built into the native extension itself, but if you have another extension that can generate these, it would be possible to copy the template output variables from those extensions, then place them in the sidebar template files used by this sidebar extension :)

hello,

is your extension work with Elegance 3.2.5 theme? i will buy if it is working with given theme without any problem. if not can you fix it if i purchase the extension.

thanks

Hi,

Yes, the sidebar extension is compatible with all phpBB3 styles :)

Hi! Under phpbb version 3.2.5, this extension is suitable?

Yes, this will work on any phpBB 3.2.x version :)

phpBB 3.2 Sidebar Extension – Responsive: Impossible to switch off the extended search box. (There is one an original already on the phpBB forum header). The radio button always go back to ‘yes’ on saving.
