Hi, kindly try the full setup again, but this time make sure your PHP version is set to 7.4 or lower (≤ 7.4) before starting the installation? The news widget is designed to open the link in a new tab, you can’t modify that to open up in a popup.
Opening news links in a new tab is the general solution, so we implemented that option.
If you want the option to open in the same window, you can customize the plugin, kindly remember you will lose the changes when you update the plugin.
