The script looks great, but upon installing it appears the CSS is not available and the page is (needless to say) appearing pretty ugly. Did I miss something?

No CSS file missing in the package. Either theme settings will made wrong (or) Mod_rewrite is off. So, absolute path will wrongly locate.

Mod_rewrite is on.. I have no doubt the CSS is there. I’ve just not had any issues like this before that were throwing me off

Some questions: Is there a search function available? I would vote for a live search. Is the syntax type a real category? Is it possible to reorder an archive according to category or name or date?

Currently no search function included for client side. However we can use Google Custom Search Engine. It is very quick and better. I will try to add live search in next updates.
Yes archive can be reorder-able by category name or date.
I would prefer to avoid google, as it will not search behind a login or other barrier. Please consider, that your tool could be used for a company or team using dedicated IP area only. An ajax live search would really be good, offering results dynamically while typing.
The archive in your demo has no reordering. What I had in mind was clicking the column header for reordering accordingly.
