Why not use the same video player for all types?
Why is it necessary to use separate video players for the types ‘URL’, ‘LOCAL’, and ‘HLS’?
We can’t use a single video player for all sources because each platform has its own technical and security requirements. Here’s how it works in our Streamit Laravel TV App:
Pod Player – handles HLS, Local files, and normal URL videos. YouTube Player – required for YouTube URLs, as YouTube only allows playback through its own embedded player and API. Vimeo Player – required for Vimeo URLs or embedded links, which need Vimeo’s official player for proper playback. This separation ensures every type of video stream plays smoothly and securely while staying fully compliant with the respective platform’s rules.
Before I saw the debt, I saw the same player video in every source.
It may look like the same player because for HLS, Local files, and regular URL videos, we intentionally use the same Pod Player so the interface and controls appear identical.
The difference only comes in when the source is YouTube or Vimeo. For those, we must use their official embedded players due to their platform policies and security requirements.
So you’re absolutely right, most sources do share the same player; only YouTube and Vimeo videos are handled by their own dedicated players behind the scenes.

Licensing & compliance – Even free-to-air channels require documented permissions to redistribute inside an app. We want to ensure every feed is legally covered to avoid any Play Store / App Store rejection.
Security & HTTPS – All streams must be delivered over HTTPS with valid SSL certificates to meet Apple/Google guidelines and protect user data.
Reliability & maintenance – Public IPTV sources (like open M3U/M3U8 lists) often change or go offline, so we need an automated process to monitor and update links to maintain a smooth user experience.
Our plan is to focus first on a stable, well-tested core platform, and then introduce features like IPTV once we can guarantee both technical and regulatory standards.

To be clear, I am not referring to subtitles (which I see are already integrated in the application), but rather to a multilingual audio module that would allow, for example, a user to watch a movie in French and also have the option to watch it in English, Hindi, Chinese, etc., depending on the available languages for that movie.
This would be a very valuable feature, similar to what Netflix and Prime Video already offer.

There is a flag available to enable or disable the download option for each video. Additionally, a download URL must be set for that video in order for the option to appear in the mobile app. Please note that the download URL must be from a download-supported sourc; otherwise, the option will not function.
