The alumni asks for permission from the Admin; The Admin panel will show the requests – The requests you will find under Settings->Permission Requests; I think you have got this far; Once approved, alumni will be able to log into the admin panel with the same credentials they use for login into the alumni portal; And then they should see menus to write stories;

OK seen thanks. only issue i have now is with the chat function. When i am chatting with someone, the chats dont reflect in real time even when both users are online.

One probable reason for 500 Server Error happens due to lack of database connection in application/config/database.php file; You can try that if you haven’t already;
