Because MKV files are not an industry standard and HTML5 video tag doesn’t fully support it. In fact, not the HTML5 video tag us the problem, but the browsers support for MKV files.
You can try a converter to make them compatible with the HTML5 video

The payer will only play what’s defined in the player playlist. You can’t use external parameters (from a link) to generate the player playlist.

Also, look into an update where the thumbnail image is pulling the poster image form the video instead of having to manually create one. unless you know of a shortcut way of generating one from the video.

The plugin has modest branding enabled which means that the YouTube logo will appear only on pause or mouse over. You can’t hide the YouTube logo completely because YouTube doesn’t allow this.
The player also supports self-hosted videos, so you can host the videos without using YouTube. Please check this example: http://www.videoplayerhtml5.com/universal/index_whitecontrollers_selfhosted_imgandtext.html

Thanks for your quick answer : ) My concern with self hosted videos is performance and distribution. I mean, youtube have optimized both performance and distribution for people with different internet speed and location (progressive quality depending on your internet conection, etc…). How can we take care of that kind of issues with your plugin? Maybe using S3 from Amazon Web Services? Another CDN solution in mind?

You have ‘playlistRecordTitleLimit’ and ‘playlistRecordDescLimit’playlistRecordDescLimit parameters. You also have ‘playlistWidth’ parameter.

I run campaigns on my website whenever a new movie is released. That means, I won’t be able to upload my videos on Youtube or Vimeo due to copyright issues. I want to host videos in a private area for members. I don’t want the videos to be downloadable. I understand we can hide the DL button, but will the videos be accessible any other way, like if someone looks up the location of the videos by viewing the source code?
