Isn’t possible to change the “author” of a term?

No one demands this before so I didn’t add this feature. Its just a single line code need to amend in the plugin so if you share your website details with me then I will add this code in your website for the time and later in next version as well :)

I am still using version 1.2 because I have done a lot of customization. Recently I added a new template with categories like this:

[wpg_list title=”” layout=”four_column” hide_empty=”no” template=”category” taxonomy=”category” taxonomy_terms_to_exclude=”1” post_type=”terms”]

Basically it works fine, however in the top menu, where you can click on the categories it still shows the ‘Uncategorized’ item (not highlighted). The id of this category is 1.

Try following code snippet only for category template:

.wpg-list-wrapper-template-category .wpg-list-filter-container .wpg-list-filter a { font-size: 14px; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; }

Latest version is no doubt faster than old one if you are using LINKIFY and TOOLTIP with the plugin.

Is there a limit to how many categories can be indexed? The plugin works fine for me when I use categories that only have a few hundred entries, but I am getting a fatal error/out of memory when I add a category that has over a thousand entries.

Update: I was able to go into my control panel and up the memory myself. I set to 256MB and everything is working great!. Thanx for help and quick response.

I am working with version 1.2 and I want to show only one letter e.g. ‘A’ in my listing. I use the following shortcode, which does not work.

Unfortunately your settings tabs doesn’t allow us to modify the tooltips rendering, only the design of glossary index page can be modified.

I have located the different css used for each template. But if I modify one of these CSS, it is possible that they will be erased with a future update. So, can you guide me on a proper way to include these new lines of CSS? Can I hook into your plugin in order to add my custom theme with my own css file? Or maybe a simple custom CSS added in my style.css will do the job?

I’m not speaking about new post, I’m speaking about new page (which is a bit different, even if pages are only post with a type of page).

I just gave a test with a new page and it didn’t show me any error. I am not sure why are you getting this error when this function is not being used for admin anywhere.

This plugin is fine, but disappoints with its Tooltips, which are arguably the most important aspect of the plugin.

The hover tooltips are the primary way people will discover the glossary terms (at least until SEO kicks in). They should be easily styled, but are not. More specific feedback:

1. I should have the option to simply inherit my theme’s stylings on the tooltip. Weird to have the tooltip be styled totally different from other content.

I’ve succeeded in customizing my tooltips via CSS with !important tags, which was ok enough. But I’d much rather have styles inherited, OR at least configure styles in the plugin’s settings.

2. How about some examples of what the tooltips look like, here on Code Canyon or your own demo site?

Additional feedback:

It appears that I’m required to publish individual posts for each term. I don’t really want to use them- but if I set the posts to “draft” or “private,” the tooltips disappear.

Please consider a mode where the tooltips can be displayed, but the individual posts are not rendered. For my use, I don’t really want to worry about styling these posts and gaining traffic to them.

Hi there, thanks for purchasing my plugin.

1) I don’t think you need !important tag to update the tooltip color theme. You can do it easily if you are good with CSS and understand the priority value of classes and HTML tags. I’d definitely think about this feature with next updates by which one can change the tooltip colors from admin.

2) If you see my plugin’s LIVE PREVIEW you can see one tooltip style already in action. My plugin doesn’t allow multiple tooltip themes on same time so for the time you can find one on the live preview: http://glossary.wpinstinct.com/ However I have tried my best to show all the themes/styles in screenshots on CodeCanyon and you can view those by visiting my plugin easily.

3) I understand your concern very well where you want one be able to render glossary term details page and want to limit them on index page only. I can do that only on your server if you want as not all the users think same and most of the current users are happy with term details page. There are few plugins available or you can do a custom script easily to override this feature :)

Thanks for the replies. Some clarification:

This is not what I was suggesting. I was asking for the ability to not display any of the posts, or a glossary index page either.

1.) You didn’t address my suggestion that you build the plugin to inherit the theme’s styles. This is still preferred.

1) It would never be auto possible to inherit the theme’s style but as I said I’ll definitely think for custom styles option for tooltip with the plugin settings in near future.

3) If you don’t want glossary index page and glossary terms then don’t create those from admin. I am not sure if that’s what you want but then what would be advantage of my plugin for one if he doesn’t want glossary index page and terms.

Hi, I bought your plugin and I’ m trying to create a taxonomy list. I created 2 categories: 1) ferentinese 2) storico I need to list each one of them in a different page. At the moment I used this shortcode: ’ [wpg_list title=”” layout=”one_column” hide_empty=”no” alphabet_set=”A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z” hide_all=”yes” hide_numeric=”yes” post_type=”” template=”Taxonomy Glossary” taxonomy=”ferentinese”] ‘ but I obtain Always a list containing both categories…. What can I do to have different lists? Thank you

Hi, for tag “a” your plugin uses the theme colours and the linkyfied word/frase in the page/post has the #890000 color so I need to change it in another one please let me know which tag I have to use to do it… Thanks

I got the reason which is causing issue on your server. I’ll add the fix in next version of the plugin but for the time you can follow these steps to get rid of it:

1) Go to wp-content/plugins/wp_glossary/includes/ directory

2) Open wpg-core-functions.php file

3) Go to line number 595 where it says:

function wpg_glossary_term_title_filter( $title, $post_id ) {

4) Replace it with following one:

function wpg_glossary_term_title_filter( $title, $post_id='' ) {

5) That’s it!

Hi, I try to use the category option [wpg_list template=”category”] for the Glossary which works fine, but I also need the Alphabet bar before the listed Items the same as it appears with the just simple shortcode [wpg_list].

What would be the shortcode for that?

Do you have any plans to integrate MixitUp version 3.0? I am asking because it seems possible that the new version supports partial loading. Integrating this and using this feature (lazy loading) would help with loading time for larger glossaries.

Here is an answer I got from Patrick: Yes – the Dataset API v3 makes things like lazy-loading over an Ajax API very simple.

I don’t have a demo yet, but essentially, you would start with a subset of your full dataset (either pre-rendered or rendered by MixItUp), then gradually increase the dataset to lazy load additional items in to the DOM.

I am doing some performance test since a few days finding out where exactly the bottle neck is that slows the site down. I have about 600 entries and the server waits about 1.1 seconds. That’s the processing time for looping through the 600 items.

Now I did a simple wp_query loop with displaying just the_title and I took 0.85 seconds. That’s incredible slow. What’s slowing it down is really the function get_title.

After that I did a custom mySQL loop, also just displaying the title of the post and now it takes 0.15 seconds! Can it be that the WordPress loop is that slow when you display the title with 600 posts?

If that is really true I may write my own function to loop through all items…

My plugin provides an option to show different title in tooltip rather than showing term’s original title all the time. For this I am using a filter with the_title that may be slowing it down. If you are no more using custom title feaure and just changing the_title function with custom script works for you then go ahead for it on your server. That shouldn’t be a problem.

Yes, it’s amazing what speed you get out without using the_title. I can’t believe how slow that WordPress function is. I am assuming it was never intended to show hundreds of posts. But then is there another function. For example for long archives – what do you use?

As I told my function is running through the_title filter so if you are good with WordPress hooks and filters then you can easily understand why its getting slow when running through the_title for long list of terms.

I’ll surely look for a solution but for the time you have to change it directly in plugin files. Thanks!
