This is an excellent and simple plugin that does what it is supposed to do. My one comment is that there is no reason to have a separate font awesome CSS for the icons, because most installations have another plugin that already loads font awesome. Now we have to load it twice on our website, as it’s not possible to use your plugin without loading your own separate font awesome. This is a waste of bandwith. You should just have an option to load font awesome, but if another plugins already loads it, there should be no reason to load it and the voting icons should work as per standard font awesome implementations.

Yes, you’re right. I added this to the feature list. Meanwhile you can use an ASCII code instead. That will not load Font Awesome.

Thanks. But what ASCII code do we use for thumbs up?

You could also use HTML-Codes, like this one.

You have a typo on line 304 in wp-comment-rating/classes/front.php, where you have: esc_attr__( ‘Vote dup’, ‘comment-rating’ ), “dup” should be “up”. How best to fix this?

Hey osseonews, oh, thanks for the hint. Much appreciated. You can change it own your own (just remove the “d”). I will fix this with the next update ;)

Hi there, After installing your plugin, our Recent Comments widget no longer works. It doesn’t show any recent comments, just old ones. I’m assuming your plugin changes the filter in some way, but I’m not sure. Below is our code from the widget. Would you know why this stopped functioning and what a fix would be ($number is passed in as an argument)?

$comments = get_comments( apply_filters( ‘widget_comments_args’, array( ‘number’ => $number, ‘status’ => ‘approve’, ‘post_status’ => ‘publish’ ), $instance ) );

I guess it’s the ‘comments_clauses’ filter. Try to
remove_filter( 'comments_clauses', array( '\wpbuddy\plugins\CommentRating\Frontend', 'comments_clauses' ), 10, 2 );

However it can be that you have to add it again later in your code.

Hi i just bought the plugin but i am dissappointed as: I dont see an option to show seperate counters for up votes AND downvotes (instead votes are aggregated). I need a thumps up, followed by a thumbs up counter. Then a Thumbs down, followed by a counter. This is a pretty basic option for comment rating plugins. Secondly, i dont see an option for adding a lead-in text in front of the voting (such as ‘Like or Dislike:’). Is that possible? Thank you.

Hey comics710, and thanks for your comment.

Sad to hear that you don’t like the plugin. Didn’t you take a look at the screenshots first? There you can see that the counters are aggregated as per default.

However the FAQ shows you how to separate the numbers.

There is currently no option for a lead-in text. But I’ve added this to request-a-feature-page. Thanks for letting me know!

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me again.

Of course i looked first. Your faq is not that helpful, this option really should be build in to the plugin. Anyway, as i am not a coder, can you tell me how to rewrite your FAQ solution to show only: THUMPS UP BUTTON – Number of Thumbs Up – THUMBS DOWN BUTTON – Numbers of Thumps downs.(thats it, just those 4 items). thanks

Hey comics710, it work’s how the FAQ describes it: Copy the code in a file and name it wp-comment-rating-extend.php. Move it into the wp-content/plugins/ folder and activate it from the plugins menu. That’s really pretty much all you need. It should then work out of the box ;)

Please go back to me if you need more help on this.

Hi there, do you plan to update this plugin again? There are quite a few feature suggestions that I think would really help, but nothing has been implemented yet. Are you still involved with this plugin?

Yes sure. Still under development but unfortunately not number one priority at the moment. If you have any further suggestions on how to make this plugin better, please feel free to share your ideas.

Can you explain what the purpose of the log is? Where is it stored? Should it be deleted every once in awhile to prevent the site from slowing?

The log tab shows errors that may pop up during usage. Do you have errors in there? As per default the log only stores the last 50 messages. There is no need to delete them manually.
