I’m excited to announce version 4.0 of Slider Pro! :)

It’s a complete rewrite of the plugin; both the front-end slider and the admin area have been recreated from scratch. You can read more about what the new version has to offer on the Item Details page.

Version 4.0 is dramatically different from versions 3.9 and older, so an automatic transfer (like in previous updates) is not possible, BUT they can run in parallel. My advice is to continue using the old version for your current sliders and use the new version for your future sliders.

The old Slider Pro will continue to be maintained, which means that there will be future updates for it, to ensure compatibility with future WordPress versions. In version 3.9 (released on April 15th, 2014) automatic updates were introduced, so future updates for the old Slider Pro will be available directly from the WordPress Dashboard. If you’re currently using a version older than 3.9 you will first need to update to 3.9 and then you can activate automatic updates. I’ve set up a webpage where you can download the old version, since on CodeCanyon you can only download the new version. You will need to provide your username and purchase code: http://bqworks.com/slider-pro/legacy/

Cheers,
David

Dear David,

I have last question, please. Is it possible to use video.js Player, for HTML5 self-hosting video? What will be needed for that, and if possible I would like to see an example?

Warm regards, Krystof

Hi Krystof,

The slider supports and has built-in integration for Video.js. I don’t have a live demo for it, but if it wasn’t supported I would have told you so without a problem.

David

Something that we discovered with version 4.0.4 and a setup like example 5 – when we used this plugin in a template that uses Bootstrap, we had to add box-sizing: initial; to the .slider-pro class in the css. It seems there was a conflict with bootstrap’s * { box-sizing: border-box; } which caused the thumbnails to lay over the main image.

Hi,

Thank you for your comment! I’m aware of the box-sizing: border-box conflict with vertical thumbnails. It occurs because the slider adds some padding on the side where the thumbnails reside, and that padding gets included in the total width of the slider when border-box is used. I’ve fixed this by adding .slider-pro {box-sizing: content-box} because initial is not supported in IE. This fix will be available in the next update; still want to add a few other things until I release it.

David

Hi, Loving your slider plugin, thank you! Quick question…on the vertical galleries, the navigation arrows appear at the top and bottom, instead of the left and right of the image. Is there a way to change that, so the arrows appear on the left and right of the image, just like in the horizontal galleries? CSS or Javascript fix? I can implement either if you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks! Cameron

Hi Cameron,

That’s possible by replacing the slider’s ‘sp-vertical’ class with ‘sp-horizontal’.

David

Hello!

Your slider is awesome, LOVE the bottom nav/thumbnail options. I’m just doing some final testing and was hoping you could help me! I am viewing the slider on my iphone and for some reason the background images are different than the desktop images.. These images may have been included in my themes original media- but they don’t exist anymore. If you could let me know how to either link different images or remove the link to these images that would be fantastic! link for reference: wp.gritindustries.com

thanks very much!

Hi,

Those are the retina images from the bundled examples; they only appear on retina screens, which is why you see them on your iPhone, but not on desktop.

David

I love this slider! very fast and responsive!

I’m glad you like it! :)

Hello guys,

I’m interested in your plugin but i need to know if its possible this kind of slider -> http://staplepigeon.com/

Thanks!!

Hi,

If you’re referring to the option of having the next slide visible next to the current slide, it’s not possible to achieve it in the same manner. This slider has a similar option but both the next and the previous slides will be visible and the look is quite different.

David

Just a quick thanks to David for this Awesome, Well Supported, Easy to Use and Beautiful Slider!

Thank you for the appreciative comment! :)

Just bought Slider Pro:

I created a new slider with the option “images from post gallery”, inserted the slider code into a certain post that has a wp gallery shortcode with “hide” option and everything is working like expected. But when I insert that same slider code into another post (with another wp gallery) I get the same slider as my first post… Do I need to create for each post a different slider? That’s not dynamic…

The sliders are cached, which greatly improves the performance. If you want to use the same slider, you need to disable the cache:

[sliderpro id="1" allow_cache="false"]

Unless you have a lot of sliders to create, I would recommend to not disable the caching. It’s still dynamic in the sense that image are loaded dynamically (you don’t have to load insert each one of them manually). Anyway, you’re free to do what you want.

David

I am creating a slideshow. My images are 1024X1024, but I want the slideshow to be 300X300. The images look fine, but when I make full screen, they don’t use the 1024X1024 size so they are very blurry

I think I figured it out. When importing several images, I had to set link to file to link to none.

You can use small images as default images and specify additional bigger images for when the slider’s size increases, or you can use bigger images as default images.

David

Hello, does gallery slider support 2 or more gallery on same post? I couldnt see any info on gallery document or your videos…

Hi,

You can have multiple galleries on the same page but the slider will load all the gallery images in a single slider.

Hello, a prebuyer question… is it possible to achieve a look like in pointelle slider? ex: http://cdn.wpmayor.com/wp-content/uploads/pointelle-featured-630x497.png I mean a post slider wit navigation on the left (or right) with thumbs and post data (title, excrept, date…) and also visible on the bigger picture when clicked (or just hover)... similar to your screenshot No.5 jst that the text is nost under the pic but on the picture… thanks for the answer…

Hi,

Yes, it’s possible, but you need to use some custom CSS to style the thumbnails exactly like in the screenshot.

Regards,
David

hmmm… not good in CSS…. :/ just a basic user…

I am a bit confused about the upgrade to the new version. Are there no longer any templates or themes to choose from? All appearance modifications would have to be done through custom css coding?

I’m sorry. I should have been more clear. I meant “skin”, not template or theme

The new version has a more minimalistic look and provides an easier way to customize it through CSS. From my experience that’s what people want at the moment. The skins from the older version were not in trend anymore (glossy and 3D buttons). However, you can add those buttons in the new version by using some custom CSS,

David

Hello

there was some nicely designed navigaiton arrows as well as shadow effects in slider pro 3, do you plan to add such nice looking elements in version 4 as it misses a bit to me? new options are great but the thing do miss a bit of design. thanks

cheers,

Seb

Hi Seb,

Those glossy buttons and 3D shadow were popular 4-5 years ago but these days they are considered old-fashioned. Now, minimalist and flat design are considered trendy and this is what 90% of clients want. Also, the new version is easy to customize through CSS, so you can change the buttons if you really want.

Regards,
David

Hello,

Could be nice to have some options for the arrows to choose from in next update maybe? I agree with you that the new trend is FLAT but those arrows now used in Slider Pro are a little bit basic don’t you think?

examples:

Hi,

The arrows have a minimalistic design and I personally like them the way they are (others can have different opinions). They are made with pure CSS which makes it easy to change their color, size and shape (thickness and angle). The third example you posted can be recreated easily by adjusting the CSS and the second example can also be recreated. Anyway, if you want something very different, you can use CSS to add any arrows you want.

Regards,
David

Ok, thanks for the quick answer. But I’m going back to the old version of the slider… I’m not a CSS-guru.

You don’t have to be a guru, basic knowledge is sufficient. Anyway, like I said in my release note it’s not really necessary to update if the older version fits your requirements better :)

Regards,
David

Hey there, I love your slider. I just have a couple pre-sale questions before buying it to make sure it’s going to work the way I’d like.

1. Are you able to link the carousel images to a page (ie, a blog post)?

2. Do you (or could you) provide the PHP function code so I can insert it directly my theme’s template.php? (For example, the Slider WD plugin gives the user ”<?php wd_slider(1); ?>” to insert in their PHP page).

Thanks very much!

Hi,

1. Yes.

2. Yes
<?php echo do_shortcode( '[sliderpro id="1"]' );?>

Regards,
David

That example is not offered as a preset. Like I said it’s a highly customized variation created by the site’s developer.

Regards,
David

i must edit code?

Yes, a lot of extra code was added. What I’m trying to say is that you won’t be able to easily adapt this slider to obtain what you want. I recommend searching for a different slider that is closer to what you need.

David
