Can you make the session automatically logout when the browser closes?

My login system (and almost all login systems) use cookies and sessions. This is controlled by the browser, and by PHP.ini . After a certain period of inactive time, the user is automatically logged out, and the session is cleared. The only way to logout is by either pressing the logout button, or waiting until the server logs you out automatically after sometime. Practically all websites do this, note major websites like Facebook and Gmail.

So, for example, try logging in, and then wait about 1 hour (or even less, depends) and then try visiting the protected page again. You will see that you have to login again to view the page. Or try logging in with one browser on your computer, and try visiting the protected page from another browser. You will see that you cannot do so.

This is how the majority of websites design their login systems. If you want, you can change the PHP.ini value to reduce the session lifetime, so that it gets cleared faster. Search “session lifetime php” on google to find out more.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’

You may need to switch to PHP version 5.2 or later.
