Can be unlimited users and each user account have monitors active?
Nope, it’s just a single user who can create as many monitors as he needs to.
Hello,i have one cloud server with a lot of domain and subdomains, do i need to install on each domain (i prefer to do that for to see just the domain files that i need to know)
If the user under which the web server runs can read all the subdomains, then you only need a single install and from there you can monitor all, otherwise you need to install for each of your domains.
What is the limit to the amount of files this can store and/or monitor?
I have a system that has 1.5 million files. Are there any requirements to make sure this system works without running out of memory/timeouts etc. when such a large DB is generated.
How big is a typical DB per 10’000 files for example?
Also what meta data is stored?
Is privacy and security ensured (from your side) ?
Is it storing any content or making duplicates to enable the ability to show changes?
These are actually great questions actually
There’s no limit from the script related to the files you can store, though i haven’t tested it on 1.5M files which is huge, but i am willing to help in case the script cannot handle that much amount of data
For every file in a monitor, in database we store the file path, name, modified time, extension, size, type, permissions, owner, group, content hash(sha1 of the content) and plain content of the file if the file size is under 512kb (this is adjustable) and if the file is plain text readable (i.e: it is not an image or a binary etc). Then, when a monitor will generate a report, it will go through all the monitor files again and will check the files data against what is stored in the database and if we find differences, we save those differences so that you can later compare them (old file vs new file) and see exactly what changed.
As far as privacy/security from my side, you can rest assured, nothing gets sent to my servers or the like, everything is stored on your server.
Related to the size of storing 10k files, this is very very variable so there’s no straight answer, but each row will weight a few bytes if there’s no content stored, or a few kb if there’s some content stored.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for the nice reply. All sounds groovy. If I can dial down the plain content being written to the database to zero (just for this particular case) then I am good to go. But for website file monitoring it is very useful and great feature.
Just to let you know I am going to run this on an internal QNAP server to ensure it does not get attacked by RANSOMWARE or DATA INTEGRITY LOSS due to corruption.
It can also help towards certain PCI DSS File Integrity Monitoring requirements.
All of those are good selling points for you. Ill be buying your code sometime in the next 24 hours and give it a whirl..
Sure thing, when you are ready
Meanwhile i have also written an article to show how to disable saving the content in the database: https://kb.filewizz.com/articles/adjust-the-allowed-size-for-saving-the-files-content-in-database/
Was just about to buy when I noticed that this in the installation instructions : “Your FileWizz purchase info together with the purchase code.” – the server I need to install this on is offline completely. Does it need to authenticate to do the installation? I can’t put the server online as it is against the company policy.
Hmm, i think we can create a version for you for offline usage, we’ll pre-register it from our side(we’ll need your purchase info, so pm us via our profile) then we’ll give you a version with your details embed so you can activate it offline.
really cool ! i wish you all the best for your sales
if it is please possible to add monitor website via FTP, i mean add different location on different server and manage at one backend only?
We thought of that before but this adds some extra complexity as the master server has to talk to the slave servers in a secure way so that no data is leaked.
Another issue is that FTP is slow by its nature, so reading and indexing remote locations would bring in huge latencies…
For now we’ll just stick to how it works since it’s the safe way to do it
The files I can monitor are only for filewizz’s directory, do you know how I can set this so that it will see the other sites on server.
Try to install it in a subfolder of the site you want to monitor, this way you’ll be allowed by the PHP settings to go one level up, or few, and select what files you want to monitor.
Please note that the files you can select for monitoring depend on PHP’s ability to read the files that are owned by the user who runs the PHP process.
The app reads the folder where it is installed then it goes up, one level at a time as long as it is allowed by your server permissions or till it hits the root of the server in case for some weird reason the app is ran under the root user.
In simple terms, if you have a folder in /home/user-a and a folder in /home/user-b and you have the app in /home/user-a then most likely you will only be able to see the files under your own user only, that is /home/user-a.
Hope it makes sense.
That’s a shame, I’m speaking to my server provider and will let you know if they recommend a change to allow me to to this. I’ll let you know what they say, so you can suggest this to future customers.
If not if I place this in the a sub folder of the site I want to monitor, and it place this in more than 1 would the app pull me up as my license because it’s a single domain?
All I had to do was to get them to disabled the “Jail host”. It’s worked now.
Perfect : >
Good luck with selling!
it would great, if we can see on overview page with path we had exclude…. that is now a bit strange that we press exclude a folder and we still can see that folder…:S
So a new widget that shows the excluded paths in the monitor overview page, right ?
Yeah. That I would recommend. At the moment it will be a little bit bad…
And if You insert, you should also insert button for move back into monitoring.
Will make it available sometimes this week
Hello! Did you insert new widget? I get notification about update. But i cant see new widget.
Another question, too: How I can change name from monitors. It will set to: ” (not set)” and i cant chnage that name….
Did you install the update? The widget should be visible in the overview pages, it’s last widget in page.
As for the monitor, In the last step of setting up one, you can set a name.
yes it works both. BUT
1.If we edit / create monitor it will be a little bit bad / it will create missunderstanding your step display. You should insert “next” button and “back” button. Because your arrow someone cant understand I think. Me too.
2. You should display password not as clean version. You also store password non encrypted i think!
3. If we setup SMTP it should also check if option are ok. you only save. If someone insert wrong access data it will also save but it wont work….
Hope you can fix all.
Gotcha for #1 will add back/next, no biggie
For #2 – The system passwords are encrypted, no problem. The smtp password you type in the settings area is not since you have to use it for smtp connections and you have to send it in plain text
For #3 – Sure, i can add a test button there
My licence/purchase code doesnt work and when i click on the support button it takes me to a forum ??
Here’s where you get support: https://www.filewizz.com/customer/guest/index
Not sure exactly what you mean with the fact the license does not work and neither about what support link you say…. from site? from installer ?
Hello, I had try some days your tool. I must say it is really strange…
I store 57,130 files… if i try open report it will load and load and load…
i think that is no really great solution….
It’a great solution, we’re using it for that many business
Go to Settings > Stats Widgets and disable the “Files by extension” widget, that’s usually the culprit because it does a lot of work to filter files by extension. Once you do that, everything will work very fast again
that solution work for me too. Now it is great. But I am not sure if your tool will display all changes….
It will display absilutely everything
if we buy the extended version, can we use it across all of our domains on our server?
If that means a single app install, then yes, and you don’t need an extended license for such usage.
Extended licensing applies mostly to apps behind a paywall, and it’s not the case for this one.
I have 2 questions:
1. Can I use this tool for more then 1 domain?
2. Can I use this tool for any kind of site? (joomla, wp, drupal, etc)
You can use it on more domain as long as you install it just once, otherwise you need two separate licenses.
And yes, the tool will work with all sites.
What do you mean one install?
Can I use it like this:
Site A – on Server A – FileWizz
Site B – on server B – FileWizz (same license key as site A)
To use it in the way you explained you’d need two licenses.
Ok, to be honest I am trying to buy this tool, but also I want only 1 license.
Site A – Server A – FileWizz
Site B – Server A – FileWizz
I have a reseller hosting package, (WHM type) with many domains, and each domain has it’s own user and hosting account and I want only 1 filewizz.
Can this be possible?
So basicaly I want to monitor files like in your demo:
That can work but you have to make sure the user that runs the script has read access to the other sites, which i doubt it has by default, so will be tricky…
Before purchasing, how can I find if the user has read access to other sites? Is there a php command or something?
I am not sure how that works for cpanel/whm, but as far as i know, the cpanel users are chrooted to their home directory so if you are /home/A you cannot look inside /home/B…Only root can look inside both BUT really, don’t do anything as root as it opens a pandora box…
I don’t have access to root, since I am just a customer. But I have a main account, (a mother account) where I can insert the user and pass, and via drop-down list link, I can access all the domains. (one by one of course)Can you please provide a playground (a test area) where I can try to see if this works?Thank you
I was able to run some tests today on a local environment and it’s exactly as i thought, the accounts are separated and you cannot access the files of an account from another. What works is a main domain account accessing subdomains. So it seems it’s a deal breaker.
Hey, did I understand correct, that it will NOT be able for me, to install it ANYWHERE and track different domains? It needs all to be in the same root directory?
So if I have 20 different domains, 20 different websites, i cant use that?
thanks in advance
The application itself has no such limitation, but if you are in a linux environment that does not allow reading certain directories owned by other users, then that’s not something that this application can bypass, it’s simply just how the linux environments work.
dont know. I´m using latest plesk…
I want to install on e.g. domainmonitor.com and track
website1, website2, website3, website4 which are on different plesk servers from me…
cool stuff! GLWS
