No ePub format?
Not yet. Sorry. I plan on adding epub support in either a similar product or a later expansion to this one. No news on the release date yet.
This plugin does allow you to upload epub files to WordPress’s Media Library, but it will not create them.
A bit late, I know, but the new version supports epub files!
Interesting, how do you handle the conversion? Calibre?
All conversion is done through modified open source PHP libraries.
If you have Calibre, the mobi files created by this plugin can be opened, read, converted to another format, and (of course) sent to your eReader.
Sounds good – I ask since I own www.make-your-offer.com ebook conversion is something I’m close to!
This looks like a great service! Would you be interested in a PHP version of eBook Creator without the Wordpress plugin bits?
For anybody wondering if this works and how simple it is to use. Within 2 minutes of purchasing the plugin, I was reading my posts on my Kindle.
My only question, is whether it would be possible to have a page break between posts. Also, is there a way for images to be shown?
Page breaks in .mobi files are a bit tricky. I’m using a hack to create them. It works great on my Kindle Touch but not at all on Calibre. I was hoping that all Kindles would treat the page breaks the same way. I’ll take a look at creating a more universal solution.
Images are added to .mobi file, but only through absolute URLs. If they aren’t showing up it is probably because the parser is getting confused looking for them.
If you can private message me with your blog’s address and the type of Kindle you are using, I’ll take a look into both problems right away.
Would it be possible to add the ability to change the text in the widget?
Where it says Export entire blog to ebook, I’d prefer to word this a little differently as my site isn’t a blog. Something like Export entire website’s posts to a Kindle e-book
I will definitely add that to the next release. If you can’t wait that long and are comfortable in code, you can open /ebookcreator/widget.php in Notepad (or something similar) and change line 75 from
printf(’<p><a href=”’ . $linkbase . ‘-blog.mobi”>Export entire blog to ebook</a></p>’);
printf(’<p><a href=”’ . $linkbase . ‘-blog.mobi”>Export entire website’s posts to a Kindle e-book</a></p>’);
Thanks, I can do that without a problem.
Page breaks are indeed tricky on Kindle, it’s down to the ability for people to change the font size on the kindle, so they could read it in a lot smaller print and the page break wouldn’t work. It’s an ebook thing not a plugin thing.
As for a PHP version of your convertor, the MYO site is WordPress, but it’s not blog posts I need to convert, its member .doc uploads.
For this, I understand I’ll need to create a PHP script that uses Calibre’s open source python scripts to convert and save to the server.
It’s on my to-do list if the number of books to convert becomes unmanageable.
what APP can i use to read the .mobi ebook in Android?
The most popular app on Android is Kindle for Android app by Amazon, however they’ve recently changed their policies on .mobi files that don’t come from the Amazon store.
Here are some other options:
Cool Reader – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.coolreader&hl=en
FBReader – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.geometerplus.zlibrary.ui.android&feature=search_result
There are a few other options available and even some work arounds for the Kindle app. Just use google to get directions on that.
Hope that helps!
now its working?
Any chance of a NON WP version soon?
Actually yes, what features are you looking for specifically?
Specifically? Non wordpress LOL… HTML5 and responsive works for me…
Does this work on the Ipad and latest ios7 OS?
It’s meant to be deployed by site owners. The file it creates can be read on any device that can open .mobi files. For most devices that means using a 3rd party application.
Do you have a demo?
Is this still actively supported? Any plans for a standalone version?
I need custom app that works like this.
I intended to create a standalone version but never did. I have no plans at this time. I’m currently supporting purchasers but not continuing development.
Too bad. Anyhow, great script .. Cheers.
Just brought this plugin and installed. the following error appears at the to of my Wordpress install: Notice: The called constructor method for WP_Widget in EBOOK_Widget is deprecated since version 4.3.0! Use __construct() instead.
Is the plugin compatible with the latest version of WordPress?
Deprecated functions should still work, though the messages are annoying. I’ve only decided to support up to 4.1 for this plugin, but I’ll take a look tonight to see how much needs changed to get 4.3 working smoothly.
Thanks for your purchase.
Thanks for this.
Just so your aware WordPress install is 4.6.1
I took a look at it last night. I verified that the plugin still works on 4.6.1, but there are a number of deprecated warnings. I’m going to see if I can fix some of the simpler deprecations this weekend, no guarantees though.
