The Twitter Follow button has been set to a fixed width in the CSS stylesheet. You may have a slightly longer Twitter Username than normal so part of the button might be missing.

To rectify this issue:

  • 1. Open the ASW widget file located in the ’\includes\widget.php’ folder.
  • 2. Scroll to line: 37 and find this line of code:

    <a href="<?php echo $instance['twitter'];?>" class="twitter-follow-button" data-lang="en" data-width="90%" if="">data-show-screen-name="false"<?php } ?>><?php _e('Follow', self::SLUG); ?> @<?php echo $instance['twitter'];?></a>

  • 3. Change the ‘data-width=”90%” to a higher percentage.
  • 4. If this does not work try increasing the ’<?php if($widgetWidth <= 229){?>’ to a higher number. E.G <?php if($widgetWidth <= 240){?>

How to I hide certain icons and their functionality?

All of the social networking icons do not have a default input meaning that if you leave these like this you will disable that certain functionality. To disable just a single icon and it’s functionality simply leave the text-field empty and that icon will not be displayed.

What URL is the Google +1 feature using?

The Google +1 feature dynamically picks up the URL for your WordPress blog and uses this URL . This is gathered by using the WordPress get_bloginfo(‘url’) function. For this to function you must have the wp_footer() tag defined in your footer template file. This is where the Google +1 JavaScript code is added.

Part of the Widget box is missing or overflowing outside my sidebar

You have the ability to define the actual width of the widget box. By default the width of the widget width is set to 250px. If part of the widget box is missing or overflowing change the width of the widget settings so that it matches the size of your theme sidebar. Try decreasing the widget box width size to say 220. There is no need to add the (px) pixels as this is added automatically for you.

The hover effect and Google +1 button isn’t displaying

You must ensure that in your WordPress theme footer file that you are using, usually “footer.php” there is a call to the wp_footer() function tag. To manually add this tag. Navigate to your current WordPress theme directory `wp-content/themes/mytheme` (replace mytheme with your active theme name). Find a file named “footer.php”. Open this file in notepad or any text editor. Add the below code to this file direct before the closing tag.

<?php wp_footer();?>

Re-save the “footer.php” file.

How do I change the Facebook Like button to link to my Facebook page instead of my blog URL?

To do this you will manually need to change the code.

Navigate to the plugin folder “wp-content/plugins/advanced-social-widget/lib” and open the file called “advanced-social-widget.class.php”

Navigate to line 1174 and find this line of code:
$facebook_button_output = '<iframe src="'.get_bloginfo('url').'&send=false&layout=standard&width=225&show_faces=false&action=like&colorscheme=light&font&height=35&amp" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:225px; height:45px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>';
Replace the instance of ’.get_bloginfo(‘url’).’ wih the URL of the page you wish to link to. For example to link to the WPInsite Facebook page the code would read:
$facebook_button_output = '<iframe src="" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:225px; height:45px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>';

Repeat this process for lines 1178 & 1183. Re-save the file.

When I update the plugin to version 3.4 the plugin Control Panel settings tabs do not work.

In version 3.4 of the plugin I have totally rewritten the jQuery code that controls the Control Panel tabs.

When upgrading the plugin be sure to clear your browser cache. Once you have cleared your browser cache the tabs will work fine.
