Yeah, as a native German I would say: »German sucks!« We’ve way too much rules and variations in our language – I don’t really like german. I’ve also notices, that I speak with a much deeper voice, if I’m speaking english instead of german. For me, english is a much more relaxed language than german. Okay, some studies showing, that german is a dying language and in 100 years, german is replaced by english.
If I take a closer look to the german magazines I read, TV-Shows or a normal conversation with my friends, english is definitely on replacing many of german words already .
But you’ve all my respect for learning our language. I’ve always asking myself how german sounds for someone who isn’t a native speaker . Must sound like russian or polish . Anyway, we have a strange language
Well I quite like German. The fact that my girlfriend is German and that I like German music and culture is the main reason why I’m still learning while not living in Germany. I like being able to appreciate little things like humour in a foreign language. Also I’m going to Leipzig in the summer so hopefully I’ll have some good conversations. But yes I don’t know if I’ll ever figure out the grammar. I can see what you mean about German not being relaxed I guess, because Germans speak too fast! Which doesn’t help with understand things… But German will never die out completely since there are too many important cultural things in German.
Here’s a good word for you:
