I have restricted access to the file manager to logged in users only. Is this the reason the preview is not working (at least for PDFs so far, havent checked other files)?
Preview should be working unless you enable secure paths in the settings page.
Pdf previews wont work if you are using your localhost, google docs cant access files unless they are on public servers.
I am afraid it is not working for me. I use it on a live site and path is set to insecure… I just decativated all plugins without results, activated them again and now if I click on preview I get the source code of the whole website. Can you help me on this one please!
Sure, email me the backend access. I’ll fix it.
Hiya,
Have the latest version of advanced file manager.
Have checked your code suggestions to implement a default shared or common folder for all users but it doesn’t match.
is there an update to this tip?
i also downloaded the addon to change the default…
so what i have done so far is create a folder in uploads called eg office-docs, and i want this to be the default for everyone. at the moment the only folder i can see is mine, and its called Rob
any tips gratefully received, or if there are updated instructions pls let me know – many many thanks
Hi,
You dont need to change the code, have it set back to the same as it was before. You can just use the addon to change the default folder.
Also make sure you have version 7.4.1 atleast.
How can I translate “This shortcode is for logged-in users only” in the frontend if access is restricted to logged in users?

can you point to where it is located? I cannot find it. Any chance this could become a setting in the future?
If you go to plugins > advanced_file_manager_5 and open filemanager_string.php you will find this one line 278 and 294.
thank you! seems to work!
Great
I bought the plugin this morning, but I can not show the file manager. I’m doing the test at http://www.newconcisa.com/kk and it does not show me anything.
I’m inserting the shortcode: filemanager [filemanager foldername = “rates” groups = “Everyone” access = “r”]
None of them works. Thanks and greetings
Hi,
Make sure you generate the shortcode in the front-end access page first. Making up a shortcode wont work.
If thats not the case, you can email me the backend access, I’ll see whats going on.
We have bought the plugin from you and are basically satisfied, but now I have a question. How do I get it set that a logged in admin can delete data in the filemanager. Best regards Marc
You can assign a folder to the admin with read/write access to it. Here is a screenshot to show you:
https://screenshots.firefox.com/wDj4nVoxsmZpia1k/localhost
I have set that, but still I do not have the possibility to select delete in the context menu.
If thats not the case, then perhaps you have removed the delete option in the context menu from the settings page, screenshot:
https://screenshots.firefox.com/U2sxYQfkmFqQ3Jen/localhost
Okay, now it works. Had to change the shortcode. Thanks for the quick help.
Perfect
Hi,
Pre-Purchase question: Is it possible for admin to upload files into each user’s folder, and user can only read it?
Scenerio: User asked me for a pdf file and I want to share it only with user, so I upload it in it’s folder and he/she can only read it.
If yes, how is this possible? There is nothing mentioned in your guide regarding this.
Thanks
Hi
Yes, each user is automatically assigned a folder with their username inside the uploads folder. Admin can upload files into that folder, there is also an option to send auto emails to the user when files are uploaded into the user’s default folder.
User has read only permission to their default folder, you can also change that in the settings page.
Thanks for reply. How can admin upload files in user’s folder, is there any upload method in wp dashboard or have to use ftp to upload?

Hello, By default, we can make the horizontal width of the search box larger.
Yes, you can add this css to make the searchbox wider:
.elfinder .elfinder-button-search {
width: 180px !important;
}
Use any width instead of 180px if you want.
sorry for newbie question. which one css ı need add
You can either add this css through css plugins, or you could just edit the filemanager_string.php file inside the filemanager plugin folder and find this line and change the width to anything you like.
Thank you. İts work. awesome plugin ^^
Perfect
can a search dialog be added?
Hi,
There is already a search box in the top right corner of the filemanager window.
how i do to delete documents?
If you assign yourself a folder with read/write access, you can delete documents and folders. Read only access wont let you delete documents.
Hello, I have 2 questions/requests.
I setup some file-manager folders/shortcodes and restricted to a user role, that was fairly straight-forward. I turned on Secure Paths option to hide direct URLS – I’m fine with this setup, as i dont really need image thumbnails. However
1) The error text when someone right click previews on a docx or unviewable file in Secure paths mode is some techno babble elfinder error, would prefer this be blank or “preview not available” or some friendly text so users don’‘t think its broken – or is there someway to get rid of “preview” option on right click just for these filetypes?
2) is there a way to allow 2 different user groups to access the same filemanager instance (same folder AND same file manager shortcode)??
i.e. [filemanager foldername=”path1/path2/docs” groups=”role1, role2” access=”ru”] ???
Thanks, I have some beginner/intermediate PHP skills
if I can just disconnect the Google Doc Viewer functionality that would help
1. Google viewer wont work if you restrict the public access to the files.
You can disable the quickview button in the context menu option in the filemanager settings page if you like.
2. Yes you can assign the same folder to two different user groups and use this shortcode to display their assigned folders:
[filemanager foldername="*"]No need to generate the shortcode in the front-end access page.
So to understand better, whatever role the logged in user belongs to, when they go to a page that has this shortcode it will know what foldernames to bring up based on that role?
Yes, this shortcode will show all the folders assigned to that user.
Hi. I’m having an issue with this plugin that I can’t work out. I have changed the file path in settings.php and that’s working fine, however, I’m getting the following behaviour on mobile devices: If I open (double-click) a PDF file it opens up in a new tab, but if I open an image file it opens a new tab and says “File not found”. If I hold and select “Download”, both file types open correctly in a new tab.
So, why is the behaviour different for the different file types?
And also, I tried changing the default double-click action to download, but it’s not working – image files still open as “File not found”
Thanks for you help.
Hi,
If you changed the folder path in the settings page, the relative url may not work. The file would still download fine, but it may not be viewable in the browser because the url is not reachable.
OK. In that case, can you please help me to change the default behaviour to ‘download’, as that works every time on a mobile device.
https://screenshots.firefox.com/Y1rKfI1VmAhQTqLp/null
Thanks, but I can’t find that code anywhere?
I think you have an older version of the filemanager, you can email me the backend access. I’ll make the changes. Or you could update the filemanager to the latest version by downloading it from codecanyon and replacing it with the existing version.
I have just downloaded again from codecanyon and it is exactly the same version. Could you please point me to the latest version?
Email, i’ll just send you the file with the changes you need.
Thanks, the new file works perfectly. One more question – is it possible to make the access Read/Write/Upload? (rather than Read, Read/Write, or Read/Upload)
Yes, the read/write access lets you upload too.
The read/upload lets you upload but not edit or delete files.
Great, thanks again
I bought this plugin a while ago and love it. I have a new project that I want to buy this plugin for and have a few customization requests from my client. Thanks for any details you can provide!
1. If multiple users are set up to view a folder, and we upload a file, will the notification be sent out to all of the users that have access to that folder or can we choose who gets the notification at the time we upload?
2. If we have a file that is a work-in-process, will it notify the user every time we make a change or update to the file, or only when a new file is uploaded?
3. We do a lot of work for suppliers to a specific customer of ours. Is there a way to give this customer access to all of the folders of their suppliers, but only give their suppliers access to their own folder? Here’s a link to demonstrate what’s needed. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ev2ym9qzwblet6/20190225111819953-2.pdf?dl=0
4. Can we establish multiple usernames and passwords for the same user using the same email? Or does each new user have to have their own email address?
Hi,
1. The file upload notification works for default folder for each user, if admin uploads file to the some user’s default folder, the user gets the notification and if a user uploads a file to their own default folder, the admin gets a notification. It would need custom code to make it work for regular folders and multiple users.
2. Every time you upload a file (new or replace the existing one), the user gets the notification. But again, this only works for default user folders. Any other folder would require custom code to work.
3. This is already possible to do, you can give access to any folder to any user, a coimpany could have access to the parent folder of other companies.
4. Username and password are handled by wordpress, if you can find a plugin that lets you have multiple passwords for the same username, then you can use it.
You can email me if you need help with custom features.
Thank you for your responses. I have a few new questions on the plugin.
1. How secure are the files uploaded with this plugin? Won’t they all be accessible since they’re uploaded to the WP uploads folder? Is there a way to lock these files down so they’re not accessible unless someone is logged in and has permission to view them?
2. Is it possible to restrict certain Admins on certain folders/files? Would we have to create custom admin levels with a plugin to restrict ability to view or not view files/folders?
3. If I have a main folder with 5 subfolders and upload a document to one of the subfolders, will everyone that has access to the root folder get an email notification of the new file or will only the person in the subfolder get alerted? I don’t want everyone to get alerted in the main folder. Are there any ways to customize the email notifications through a plugin or only through custom code? Is it well documented so my developer can customize the email notifications if needed?
4. What is the difference between read only and read/write? I want to allow someone to view a document but NOT download it to their computer. Is that with this setting or some other way?
Hi,
1. You can place the files in a folder which is not publicly available by adding a .htaccess file with “deny from all” in it. However dont do it for the uploads folder of the wordpress, this folder has publicly available files like images.
2. If admin have access to the dashboard then they can assign themselves any folder. If not then you can assign them any folder from the user access page and use the shortcode: [filemanager foldername=”*“] to display them their folder. Otherwise you need a different user group to restrict folder access.
3. Upload notification works for user default folders only, default folders are the ones automatically assign by the plugin to each user by their username in upload folder. If a user uploads a files to their default folder, admin gets an email notification, and if the admin uploads to any user’s default folder, the user gets an email.
4. Read only will let the user view the files/documents. Read/write will let them edit, delete, upload files too.
Hi, Can a registered user search for the files? Can a registered user upload files and tag the files?
Hi,
If you give registered user read/write access to a folder, they can then upload files. They can also search files.
Can users comment on the files?
Users can edit text files if thats what you’re asking for. There are no comments on regular files though.
Oh..Actually i was looking for comments by users. Like how we see on Youtube. Can you add it?
Yes, the comments under the filemanager window could be added, but this would need custom work. You can email me through my profile link here if you want my help.
Hello there
Nice plugin, thanks Quick question, currently whenever we upload files, the url looks too long
is there any way to customise the url?
Current URL https://selectproperty-assets.com/wp-content/uploads/Assetstore/ALEW/li-cst.jpg New URL we need https://selectproperty-assets.com/ALEW/li-cst.jpg (or any shortened format)let me know, how to achieve this
Thanks Matheen
The files will use your own site address to generate urls. There are wordpress plugins that change the uploads folders url to make it shorter, you should try those. One of these plugins are:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-hide-security-enhancer/
I havent tried these plugins myself, but it should work.
Thanks for the support
But still the url appears with WP-Content/uploads (even after new upload)
is there any way we can hide wp-content from the url? just dont like to customers to see files uploaded on wordpress
Thanks Matheen
https://codecanyon.net/item/hide-my-wp-amazing-security-plugin-for-wordpress/4177158
They have mentioned this feature in the link above. Again, I have not used this plugin either.
It is possible to add user role based security? i need some documents be private and other public
and it is possible to change the icon size? i need small and medium.
The files inside uploads folder of the wordpress are public, you can make folder private using .htaccess by adding:
deny from all
And place the .htaccess file in the folder you want to make private.
Icon size can be changed by right clicking the toolbar > toolbar settings > workspace and choose the icon size, or you can force the icon size like this:
https://github.com/Studio-42/elFinder/issues/278
what if someone has the direct link of a document, it can be viewed?
It wont be viewable even with direct link, if htaccess restriction is enabled. Only filemanager will allow you see those files.
i still have problems understanding the plugin. I want a page will be accesible for all pepole, but if i am an editor i can upload documents, and if i am an administrator i can upload, and delete documents. How i do to set all this privileges to the same page? I need to send to you my url, how i do to send it privately?
But its quite easy, you can go to group settings page and assign editors > read/upload access to that folder, assign admins > read/write access to the same folder, and then assign subscribers > read only access.
Now you can use the shortcode :
[filemanager foldername="*"]Here is the screenshot:
https://screenshots.firefox.com/Uyn4baZUkTGqf0rS/localhost
now, folders has not been asigned error shows up

Hi,
It´s possible add or hide options in context menu and nav bar for each user level?. I see short code in Setting for plugin, but change in this affect all users. Thanks for your help.
Hi,
These setting are global, not for user groups. But if a user group has read only access to a folder, they will only see open and download options, not the delete or edit features. Those icons will be automatically disabled.
Ok. Perfect.
Hi Jamal, thanks for response,
Please you can send me the version of plugin that have disable double click download action in the frontend please. I´m installed the plugin and need that this option is disable for users.
Thanks a lot.
Sure, email me through my profile link here, I’ll send you the dropbox link.
Ok. Thanks.
Hello.
This looks to be the ideal solution for what I’m after, but I have a 3 pre-sale questions based upon my own requirements.
1. Imagine that I have 5 customers. I need a folder for each of those customers that only they can see and have access to. Is this possible? For example, Michael signs in and sees his folder and his subfolders and files but he doesn’t see Sarah’s folder or her subfolders and files.
2. Is it possible when you create a user folder that you can automatically populate it with default folders that everybody will need? For example, if I add Michael as a user and his folder is created, can I automatically add sub-folders or do I have to create them manually?
3. Can I categorise or tag files?
Thanks for any help you can give. Simon
Hi Simon,
Every user is automatically assigned a unique folder which you can show them through a shortcode. These folders are called default folder, each user can only see their own default folder.
You cant automatically populate the default folder, you’d have to manually create folders inside each of them.
You can only group files using folders, there are no categories or tags for files.

Good evening. How do I disable multiple downloading, I want visitors to download 1 file at a time?
How do I turn off downloading folders? I just want to be able to download files, not folders.
best regards Alexandros
There is not any option in the filemanager to do this, but you can configure it to work it like that, here is how:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30988315/disable-multiple-file-select-in-elfinder
Email me if you want my help.
The plugin often fails when using Chrome browser. It shows the framework but no folders or files. Using Firefox or Safari works okay. Any ideas why Chrome is failing?
Nevermind – it was a Chrome extension causing the failure.

Also try to use the latest filemanager, these conflicts were resolved.
