I believe there wasn’t any issue with the Geolocation feature, they were related with the new WWO API. We are using MaxMind’s GeoIP services, it has around 96% accuracy, so it should work for almost everyone, but obviously, there are some exceptions.

We did not send anyone away.

An IP address doesn’t contains any kind of information, it is just used as an identifier. It may can be used to locate the endpoint of your ISP’s distribution equipment, but GeoIP services usually doesn’t work that way. They actually collects data from ISPs with the released IP addresses and their locations, then stores them in a database. Obviously, these databases cannot be 100% complete and accurate, so for a few people it won’t work. Other methods also has these limitation, there is no way to collect every IP on the the world and there is no way to give you really accurate results. It works most of the people (around 96%), but we can’t do anything to improve this and solve problems like you are having. We are really sorry if you ran into this, but we don’t have any control over this feature, it is operated by another organisation.

For me, it is working properly on your site. Did you solve this issue? As far as I can see, you are only using one Geolocation location, so it is also possible that it can’t determine your current location. We are using the MaxMind’s GeoIP service, it has the best accuracy, but it is still “just” 96%.

The problem was that it could not find a weather report for Brussels, the capital city, so the first one I tried. I then tested some more and other locations are working. I will circumvent it by taking a location nearby and dubbing it ‘Brussels’.

If the other locations works, I’m not sure what can be wrong. Did you enter your location based on a the Google Maps suggestion? Sometimes it returns some location in weird format and you should try to enter them properly with your own format. The can actually enter anything, you don’t have to accept the suggestions.

We did released several updates recently. World Weather Online recently changed their API, so I presume this is the problem you are having. You need to update the plugin and register a new API key for their new API.

In our experience, World Weather Online (the weather service we are using in the plugin) has the most coverage with providing the most detailed weather informations. Our customers didn’t complained about the weather accuracy so far and it is working properly for us as well.

We are supporting this API only as other services may doesn’t support other weather informations used in the plugin.

You need to set “position: relative;” and the proper z-index on your navigation area, so you can position it on the top of the widget. Or you can change the widget’s z-index value in the weatherslider.css file.

It’s probably an issue with your theme, I presume one of the parent elements of the widget has negative z-index. Please show us your site, so we can check what’s wrong.

It is working fine for me. The only issue I can see is that the location titles has margin or padding, so there is a larger empty space around it. Because you are using the auto-slideshow option, I couldn’t check what CSS applies on those elements.

Are you sure you are using the lasted version of the plugin, and more importantly, are you sure you have an API key for the new API? Please show us your site, so we can check what’s wrong.

World Weather Online is a separate service that we are using in the plugin to get the weather data. I presume they are sending those mails to you because you have exceeded their free API usage limit. Enabling caching should drastically decrease your API usage that helps avoiding cases like this and actually will make the plugin faster to load.

Sure, you can add the location name “GEOLOCATION” to your list, so the plugin will automatically identify your visitors’ location.

I think this issue is caused by an extra whitespace at the end of the API key string that you have entered. Our demo site is working fine for me.
