I’m unable to save settings in pagebuilder. I purchased the pro version thinking that was the issue but still not working.

lucagrandicelli

I’m aware of this issue, even tough Special Recent Posts wasn’t developd to work within another plugin. So i’m still checking the code for a fix. You can always contact the team at PageBuilder to get some help about their plugin.

Hi,

I’m using SRP with the 2 column setting, but the columns are not equal width, how do I fix this? URL is: http://www.zestio.com.au/blog/

Thanks

lucagrandicelli

You need to fix it via CSS. Just adjust the width property of SRP column classes.

Default-user

Ok great, what CSS do I use? And will it effect SRP on mobile devices?

Default-user

Ok I’ve fixed that issue, but when I view the site on iPhone, the 2 columns extend beyond the page width instead of condensing into a single column like responsive sites do? Is this plugin not responsive?

Any suggestions how I can fix this without using a single column?

lucagrandicelli

Yes, the plugin comes with a default CSS which is not responsive. Any further customization must be done via CSS just because the plugin cannot know in advance the structure and layout of your theme.

Anyway, next version will include a basic responsive css.

Thanks for you reply. My client needs the blog fixed quite fast so it’s responsive. Are you able to suggest what CSS code I can use to make the columns responsive, or do I need to use a different plugin to display the blog posts responsively?

lucagrandicelli

I cannot suggest any code because it depends on each different website layout. Basically you have to make all the width values automatic.

Hello,

I am trying to sort my front page blogs at universalpoweryoga.com by DESC but it is not working. Right now it shows the oldest posts but nothing from 2014. The published dates are setup right, does something else need to happen?

Thanks, M

lucagrandicelli

Hi, how did you set up the post order option? Are your 2014 posts normal posta or custom post types?

Default-user

Hi, I set it up Latest First but it still shows an ascending it seems like. If I switch it to random, alpha, last updated it seems to move them around OK. Just can’t get that latest, oldest by post/publish date.

It seems like there’s some other plugin that goes in conflict with srp. Please deactivate all of your other plugins but srp and let me know if this solves this issue.

Hi Luca,

I’m a big fan of your plugin. There is really 2 things that you should improve :

- Provide basic responsive CSS (especially when the plugin is displaying posts in colums). Now everytime I use your plugin I need to find the snippet to fix the responsive behavior.

- Fix the crappy chrome thumbnail size problem

- Give us the possibility to use a wordpress thumbnail image size (i.e. a thumbnail size that has been declared with add_image_size WP function). This should be done to insure that we can easily use 2 instances of the recent posts (e.g. one on the sidebar, one below the content) using the same wordpress thumbnail image size to reduce the number of http requests.

Thanks,

lucagrandicelli

Hey thank you for your suggestions. I have a very long to-do list for a massive SRP update, and these tips are surely included.

No problem, you did a really great job and it’s really too bad to leave such annoying stuff as this responsive issue unfixed ! Hope the next release isn’t too far away (I think you didn’t update this plugin in the last 18 months or something like that and it’s really necessary now)

lucagrandicelli

You’re right. Unfortunally, doing this in my spare time didn’t give me enough time and resources to keep it updated, but i’m back on. So don’t panic ;)

Another thing : could you try to set the jpeg compression at 75% as it’s a parameter of the phpthumb library you’re using : https://github.com/masterexploder/PHPThumb/wiki/Getting-Started This could help having a better score (yslow/pagespeed).

Actually it’s easy as pie, class-main.php modifications around line 315 :

// BJA MODIFICATIONS FOR 75% JPEG COMPRESSION https://github.com/masterexploder/PHPThumb/wiki/Getting-Started
$bjathumboptions = array('jpegQuality' => 75);
// Initializing PHP Thumb Class.
$thumb = PhpThumbFactory::create($image_path, $bjathumboptions);

Man,

I love your plugin, but it’s a little crazy sometimes. I think its a cache problem, cause its load the right link and post title, but the THUMB is completely different of the featured image.

What Can I do about this?

lucagrandicelli

Well, first of all try to empty the cache folder. SRP will regenerate all the thumbnails. If the problem still persists, make sure you’re using the correct featured images and check that some other plugin may be in conflict: so deactivate all of your wp plugin but SRP and see if that’s ok.

Is there a way I can pull related products (custom post type) from Woocommerce in the same way as with regular posts?

lucagrandicelli

You can filter by custom post types. Just type in the cpt name

Default-user

Where do I do this… would you elaborate?

lucagrandicelli

If you own the PRO edition, there is a specific option in the Filtering Panel.

Default-user
nrl009 Purchased

Yes I purchased the PRO edition. I got it to work by entering “product” into the custom post type field but if I narrow it down by entering a specific product category number in Filtering Options 1 “include categories” it responds with “no posts available”.

lucagrandicelli

Yes because at the moment, SRP can only filter by custom post types, not taxonomies. This feature is gonna be added in the upcoming version i’m currently developing, and gonna be ready for the next month.

I have my website’s permalink architecture configured as a silo structure where Post Categories pages have corresponding Pages with the same file name and slug. This allows me to create custom Category Pages easily. By default, WordPress selects the corresponding Page related to the category (instead of the category page) since the slugs are the same. Is there a way to use your plugin to pull related category posts when viewing the Page?

By the way, I love this plugin… it’s the best one of this type.

lucagrandicelli

Well, you could set up the SRP to filter by a specific category, generate a shortcode and put it right into that page.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, your suggestion is how I currently handle this. I would love to see this automated though. This issue is an inherent WordPress problem with the built in limitations of the category pages.

lucagrandicelli

Well the fact is that this plugin can be placed via a widgt, or via a shortcode. It’s not part of the Wordpress core, so in one way or another, you should always set up a front-page which will handle the post listing. Otherwise, hack into your template index.php file, and place the generated SRP php code there.

Thanx for your suggestion though, i’ll see what i can do.

I am displaying posts in 4 horizontal columns along the bottom of my page (I use SiteOrigins Page Builder). How can I get each post to display in a vertically aligned stack like shown below this?

  • Title
  • Date
  • Image
  • Excerpt
lucagrandicelli

Well the vertical stack is currently the default layout mode in SRP. But you can’t put date above the image at the moment, unless you edit the core and switch some html blocks.

I want to do something extremely simple (no coding required) and that is to change the size of the title on the recent posts. Is there an EASY way? if not, then how.

lucagrandicelli

Hello. You can edit your style settings via editing your theme stylesheet. Every component of SRP has a special class, so you can easilly target it and apply css rules on it.
