Hi,
It looks like the view source is disabled on your site and I can’t really see where the problem comes from and why you do not see all words.
For the back-end categories I will need an example of a category that does not appear so we can check it out. Please send access to your installation via the contact form on our profile page. Thanks

Hello i used wpml and categories two languages. Smart Post Lists only show one language category.
Can you help please?
Hi,
This might help: http://wpml.org/2011/03/howto-display-different-widgets-per-language/OTWthemes
hi thank you for your reply. i have two languages, en and tr. I have 4 categories, two of en and two of them tr. When i added a Smart Post Lists i see only tr language categories. ?
Hi there,
On the top of every page in your backend you have language filter called ‘Show content in’. Choose the language you like and then go to the Smart Post Lists widget and it will load the categories in the selected language. This is how WP and WPML work together.
I hope that helps
OTWthemes
hi sure. i select en and i see the tr categories.
Let me know if you need anything else

You need to unzip the package that you downloaded from CC and install the spl.zip file. This is the actual installation file.

Hi
I am uploading the spl.zip folder
You may have some write access restrictions? Do you want to try installing the plugin manually.
If it still does not work please send me access to your installation via the contact form on our profile page so I can check it out for you

I just bought this plugin today to create some really nice grids like some of the examples you showed in your screenshots. The problem is that after installing and trying to work with it, it seems that I would need to do a lot of css work to get the nice grids like in your examples. Unfortunately I’m not a big css expert. Your documentation was limited in talking about custom css to get the desired style.
So my question is do you have the actual custom css code you used in your examples? I’d like to be able to use some of those styles. For future releases, it would be awesome if you could add some more options to the widget (i.e. Center Photos, Center Display, etc.).
My second question is when I add a custom style css do I put in the same plugin folder as the splw.css (with a different name, of course) and then call it from the widget? And when you give out upgrades, does it leave those untouched.
Thanks. I’m really excited about the potential of this plugin and your answers will help point me in the right direction.
Hi,
All styles on the examples come from the reBrand WordPress theme. I do not think that there is any custom css on the demo site.
If you are not modifying the plugin files they will remain the same after updating the plugin. The actual update process would be to upload the new files via FTP in the plugin’s folder.
If you are using a custom widget class in any of your widgets (the filed is at the bottom of the widget settings) you can place this class in a separate css file. Just make sure it loads where the widget loads. Then you will not loose those changes on update.
OTWthemes
Do you have an article tutorial on how to create a custom widget class to change the look/style of the results? My problem is that because I’m not well versed in css, I can’t recreate the same look as your examples. For example, in your middle Screenshot, there is one called Headlines (with no images). How would I recreate that look? Also, is the look being called from the plugins css or the child theme’s style.css?
For future updates, it would be nice to have options in the widget that help stylize the look (i.e. background color, center images, center text, etc.). Thank you for trying to help me with this, OTWthemes.
Hi, usually the styles for all the list you create should come with your theme. With custom css you can further tune it a bit. Custom widget class is used to add styles for a specific list you create. I am sorry but we do not have any tutorial on css styling.

First of all I want to thank you for this simple but effective plugin. It does exactly what it promises.
My question is about Post Types. At the moment within a SPL Widget we can select only one type of posts. If I want to show posts just from one type there is no problem. On the other hand it would be great if we can select post types witch check boxes like categories or tags. So it will be possible to show posts from two or more different types in a single widget. I hope you’ll add this feature in the upcoming updates.
Thanks again for this great plugin.
Thanks for the feedback
We will consider your suggestion.

Hi, I have some trouble with your plugin In IE8, IE9, When I activate, my homepage header is in desorder : http://hopitalweb2.com/? Could you have look? Thx
Hi,
Can you please send some screenshots via the contact form on our profile page? Thanks

My site has >46,000 articles in >50 categories and when I select Post in “Post Types”, it shows nothing: www.baboo.com.br/@tmp/post_nothing.jpg
Contact your hosting provider if you can’t do that yourself.
I hope that helps

Thx but the problem continues even with memory limit = 1GB (our dedicated server has 96GB RAM!). UPDATE: Categories are shown after 20 seconds. Problem solved. Thx.
With that many posts and categories it will take some time to execute the query and load. I am not sure if it can go faster at this point. If you want us to check it out please send me access to your installation via the contact form on our profile page.

Never mind because 20s to load all info is ok.
Plugin is working but it the post title are too near each other (first posts) and it shows a lot of space between the last posts: baboo.com.br/@tmp/mais_tuto.PNG. Any ideas?
You need to play with some custom css to tune the spaces.
OTWthemes
Is it possible to create borders and background colors? Where do we input them if possible? Thanks.
Hi there,
Borders and backgrounds can be added with some custom CSS. You can have a css class name for each individual list created with this plugin. Then you can use this class to style your list by css however you like.

Hi ! Very useful plugin ! But I would like to display “Tag” instead the Post title. Just to be clear, I have a custom post called Portfolio. Inside I have Categories and “Tag” called Customer. So, I want to list my post by Categorie, and display “Custormer” name instead the Post title linked.
Thank you for your help. Regards, math.
Hi, The plugin does not currently provide such option. You can try editing the plugin’s files but then you will loose those changes when you update the plugin and will have to do them again. If you want to modify the plugin please refer to the spl.php file in the plugins folder. All php code is located in there.
OTWthemes
Thank you for your quick response! I looked at the file, I found the line of code to the title, but I do not know how to retrieve the name of the tag.
Best place to search for this is http://codex.wordpress.org/
Try some of the following too: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_term_by http://wordpress.org/support/topic/get-the-term-custom-taxonomy-name-outside-of-the-loop http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-get-list-custom-taxonomy-terms-for-specific-taxonomyI hope that help

Hello, very good plugin, but I have a little problem.
When I use a widget with thumbs, there are image tags before post excerpt.
Is it possible to fix it ?
Hi, I will need to take a look at it to see what you mean. Can you please send more info, links, shots via the contact form on our profile page. Thanks

Love this plugin, but I’ve run into a hiccup. I’d like to use it to pull media items (specifically pdfs) and list them by category. I was very excited when I saw the plugin lets me assign them categories, but when I try to generate a list of those files, I get nothing. Suggestions?
Hi,
Unfortunately the plugin does not support file attachments. The only attachment it deals with are the featured images for the posts. What you could do is use the post excerpt to put some short text there and the download links for your files.
OTWthemes
Hi,
I really want to get this plugin. My question is this: where does the plugin pull images from? Does it require me to have featured images or does it just grab an image (which I prefer) from the post.
It pulls the images from the featured images, not from post content.
OTWthemes
Hi,
I like the concept of this plugin. I was wonder if there any option or you can make it to build a new post using various old posts? for example: the best post of last month, so I can build an article using old posts? Thanks in advance!
You can place a sidebar in the content of your article (by using a free or paid plugin), then insert the Smart Post Lists widget in it and create a list of posts you like. Or you mean to create something else ?
OTWthemes
Yes I thought about this option but I suppose that Google will just read this post content as just a code so it wont benefit my SEO. My idea is something that will put a except and thumbnail image of an old post but in a new one. I don’t know if I am explaining myself correctly.
cheers
If you insert a widget in a post Google will treat it just like you have HTML with link in your post. I mean Google will not see that it is a widget because what the widget generates is simply HTML code just like the rest of the HTML. The widget will place links on your titles so I think you should benefit. I hope I explain good enough?
OTWthemes
Ok Thanks for the info
Let me know if you need anything else
Is it also possible to put the date in front and / or above the post title?
The plugin does not provide such option via the interface of the widget. You can do that if you modify the plugin files. Note that if you do so you will have to do that every time you update the plugin.

Pre-Sales Question … I get that I’m able to include one or multiple tags for the posts that I want to include. But is it possible to say yes I want to include posts with tags X and Y but exclude posts that also include Z ?
- David
Hi David,
If you want to exclude posts with certain tag the easiest way would be to not select it in the widget settings. The widget will select only the posts for the selected tags. Or you are asking something else ?
OTWthemes
Just purchased. How to get the look of the Portfolio page?
In your example here:http://otwthemes.com/demos/smart-post-lists/portfolio/portfolio-4-columns/ This is what I need to the page to look like. Please advise
Hi, you can build the 4 column layout by selecting 4 columns from the columns menu. The styles itself will come from your theme. You can further style by using some custom CSS. For every instance of the widget you can enter a custom css class name and then use it to style the whole widget.
OTWthemes
Hello,
Please help, really need this issue resolved ASAP.
Have purchased installed the plugin successfully and I am able to see the widget, all the custom post types I have created using WPMUdev CustomPress plugin are all showing in the drop down.
In the authors list the Administrator does not show, only a users who has Editor role assigned.
When I select a Post Type it is saved but when queried always comes back with no post found. Other plugins have allowed me to select a post type and all show the posts in the custom post type.
The main reason I purchased this plugin was it stated in the text it will work with taxonomies and custom post types, I am pretty should it does but there may be a bug with content created by an Administrator.
I am very happy to set you up access to the website and see for yourself, how do I email you the details.
Kind regards, Yusef
I replied to you by email. You can send the details there so I can login and see what is going on.
OTWthemes
Thanks for getting back so quickly, I have emailed you the details. Kind regards, Yusef
Thanks, We will get back to you by email shortly.
The plugin looks great, but I’m not sure it will work the way I need it to.
I’m linking to a separate WP installation, full of WooCommerce products. I can’t link to these from within the WP installation I want these widgets on.
Is it possible to create custom widgets, changing the title, except, and image, or does it always take the information from somewhere else?
Thanks!
Hi,
When you generate your list you choose a post type and the title, except, and image are taken from the posts that are in your list.
I am not sure I understand you on the WooCommerce thing. Can you please elaborate a bit?
OTWthemes
Hi, this wouldn’t work, because I need the widgets to be products from a separate wordpress installation.
This widget can’t read data from one installation and display it on another, sorry
If there’s an option to input custom text, images, body, etc. then that would have worked. Oh well.
I am sorry but there is currently no such option, all data is fulled from the posts
