Simple Bulletin Board

Hey thank you for the swift reply.

I checked it and saw the icons are PNG24 with transparency, which is awesome.

I would like to not waste time on custom template systems and just get dirty with the CSS .

Is the CSS commented and how many lines does it have.

I used PHPBB and the CSS file was a joke with 1000s of lines.

What I love about your forum is how simple it looks and how well it scales down in width and the nice PNG icons. So now all there is left is to know more about the CSS before I make the decision.

Thank you again.

Hi Martin,

since V2.0 it’s possible for users to edit their posts within defined timeslots – if enabled

I also plan private message system for the next release

OK I went though most of the documentation for the templates. For a non programmer it is still a little bit confusing here and there.

I was wondering if this would work.

I put the code in a blank php file so it includes the forum there and does its thing. Then I make a PHP include on the page where I want the forum to be. So an include in an include. Would this work.

I worry a bit about all these html files and how it works with those. I of course need the forum to keep loading those pages inside that blank php file I mentioned so it stays put in my design.

I only want to change the forum style through CSS and keep the structure as it is.

Also this method would in theory let me put the forum inside a folder so it stays out of my root. Is this ok.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Ul20,

thx for purchasing SBB :)

it’s not necessary to include the forum in a page and then icnlude it into your site, you could include it directly.

Please checkout the readme.tx (INSTALLATION) and plain.php (simple including).

If you need more infos, or like to provide URL or smthg. else please contact me via my profile

thx

Is there a way to moderate every post? Approve the comment before it is visible?

Or at least get a notification everytime there is a new post or comment on the forum.

Hi digitalpart2k,

approving of single posts isn’t implemented

BUT

you could watch every forum and then you’ll get notification about new posts/topics

is it possible for you to implement the ability to make certain categories/forums restricted visually to administrators/moderators?

Yes please and also maybe have it show the last person who posted on a topic. Another thing to add as well is user ranks depending on post count or if they are a moderator/administrator.

Bought this a few days ago after watching it evolve over the last 6 months or so.

Install/site integration was super easy. Uploaded, tweaked the config file, created the database and BAM we had a forum! Now customizing the css and having a blast seeing it take shape.

My one request, similar to mrwrinkles, a way to restrict access to certain forums. Beyond the guest level. Perhaps via expanded user classes/categories?

Regardless, thanks for making this available!

why would i choose your script and not one the dozens of free php buletin boards out there ? what makes yours special ? and why wouldn’t i opt for a professional solution such as vbuletin (and don’t tell me its because its more expensive)

Hi,

good question :D

SBB is easy to integrate into existing websites

but you’re the one to make this choice yourself, there’re a lot of bulletin boards out there as ya know and some of them are free and professional ones too (i.e. phpBB).

Highstrike,

I have used both phpBB and vBulletin, as well as Simple Forum on a WP site. All are great but I had to spend way more time than I wanted customizing them for a seamless integration. I never got any of them to where I wanted them to be.

SBB has everything I could want, plus it was an easy install and, thanks to clear commenting, was really easy to customize. See my post above

If you are happy with something straight out of the box, with no concerns for presentation, the options are wide. If quick and easy integration to an existing site is a factor I would wholeheartedly recommend giving SBB a shot.

A very satisfied customer :)

Hi themac,

It looks like your script works both in English and German, any chance you could offer French as well? I could help with the translation!

Thanks!

themac themacreplied

hi,

french translation is on board but unfortunately incomplete :(

anyway, the translation is quite simple cause all relevant data is stored in seperate files in the lang directory and can be edited really simple.

directory structure
lang/de/
lang/en/
lang/fr/
