Hi!

I just bought this plugin, upload a pdf file to http://www.scribd.com as you requested and I need to get the API key, in order to make the embed code for wordpress.

But your page is not working. http://www.scribd.com/developers/signup_api_details

Any advice? Thanks!

Thanks for the purchase, I will update the link, seems that you cannot see that link unless you are logged-in. Please go here: http://www.scribd.com/developers/signup_api for the api key: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0af1380nd8 I will update soon also the documentation.

Default-user

Thank you, works fine! Only one question: is there any way to have bigger thumbnails? They are too small.

greenline

The images are returned in the gallery directly from Scribd and Scribd returns images with fixed width=11 and height=142. You can however try to make them bigger if you edit the plugin’s css file (\scridder-plugin\includes\style.css) but even then, the thumbnails will look distorted if you try to show them bigger than the fixed size in which they are returned from Scribd.

Default-user

Ok, I will work with these sizes. Your plugin is great! In share options, there is only for tweeter and g+. Is there any option for facebook button?

greenline

Thank you! What appears in the “Share” window is completely implemented by Scribd and I cannot change it unfortunately… It seems that only in Firefox – the facebook share button does not appear, in other browsers it shows. Some time ago, the share button did not appear at all in Firefox, so I opened an issue on Scribd developers website and they fixed it really fast. I will open again a support ticket on their website indicating that on Firefox the facebook button does not appear, I am sure they will fix this soon.

Default-user

Thank you! Please keep me posted about FaceBook share button. I appreciate your help and your professional support.

greenline

I just posted the ticket on Scribd support website: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0b6138ir67 I will keep you posted as soon as they answer it!

Hi again, just wanted to let you know that Scribd has not yet fixed that bug in the share window, but I just released a new version of the plugin which overrides the Scribd CSS and fixes that error. The new plugin release has a couple of extra-features, like search box, bigger thumbnails or the display of books from a Scribd collection. Please note that before upgrading the plugin, it’s always a good idea to save the custom changes you have done to the plugin. Thanks again for the purchase!

Hi, thank you for your purchase! Can you please tell me a link to your website so that I can have a look, please?

That works now, only if i put it in the home page, but I have an important question how can i do to only show books of one category, and how can i display them ordered. Thank U for your support

greenline

As the plugin’s demo shows already, the plugin does not have this feature. I will consider these filters for a future release, but for the moment, it is not possible with the current version.

Hi again! I just want to let you know that I just released a new version of my plugin. In this new version, I added titles search functionality, bigger books thumbnails. The most interesting feature is that now, if you create a collection of books on Scribd, you can put in it exactly the books from the categories yoi want, in the order you want and then, by specifying the collection id in my plugin’s shortcode, those books will be displayed by the shortcode in the same exact order in which they are put in the collection (Scribd collections are something similar with Youtube playlists). Before upgrading, please be careful to backup any custom changes you have done to the plugin. I will be here to help with any issues. Thanks again for the purchase!

I just want to know why the pagination doesn’t work for me?

greenline

Hi, I don’t remember if I have the link to your website.

Could you please send me a link to the page using the plugin to be able to answer your question? Thank you! For more privacy, you could use for this the contact form at the bottom right in my profile page: http://codecanyon.net/user/greenline

I assume it has something to do with how the theme builds the URLs.

And another question: the pagination worked before but it stopped working with the last version? Or it never worked?

This link is : http://website.toubatoulouse.org/?page_id=443

My troubles : 1 – I prefer the previous layout than this 2 – Im obliged to put less than 50 items because pagination doesn’t work 3 – search box doesn’t work neither

I need help please

greenline

Your page is now in maintenance mode, I can’t see and debug the errors unfortunately.

1) You mean the layout from the very first version? The idea behind the new layout was people were asking for bigger thumbnails, more details below the title, etc But I can customize back for you the layout.

2) The not working pagination could have as possible reason other things too, for instance redirect plugins or something similar. Until I will not see the page, I cannot have a clue.

3) Which plugin version of the do you use? The search box is working in the last version, as seen in plugin demo page. Might be due to redirect plugins or javascript conflicts, I’m not sure until I see it.

If you wish, I could help more if I would have a temporarily admin user access to your WordPress installation. Otherwise, I need at least to view the live page…

Thank U for all : 1- I prefer the previous layout with the smaller thmbnails.

Now everything works but you may take this consideration for your next upadate :

Can I have (as u said me) the personnalised pluggin : the last one with small thumbnail without… last updated info etc…

greenline

Hi again, of course I’ll send it. By the way, in the latest version i fixed the issue related to permalinks. So I’ll have to merge/combine the latest version with the look and feel of the first version, it will take a bit of time – it’s evening here now, but tomorrow, most probably after noon – I can send it to you, if this is fine for you too.

greenline

Hi again, I have the personalized version for you (the latest version features, but without last updated text, etc) and with the small thumbnails. But I don’t have your email address anymore. Could you please send me a short message from the contact form in my profile page here: http://codecanyon.net/user/greenline#contact ? Thank you!

Love the plug in! The gallery is beautiful in its simplicity. Would like to filter by tag so only the docs I want to appear on the page (and also perhaps reverse date order so new docs appear first). The lack of tweakability is the only drawback to this otherwise gorgeous and excellent (and unique!) plug in. Keep up the great work!

greenline

Thank you so so much both for the purchase and for your appreciation! The plugin is simple because I built it in the beginning with the idea in mind that it might not sell, I thought people will not be interested. This plugin was born from my passion for reading, I love to read since I was 5 years old…Anyway, I am working hard now to add more features to it, I intend to add the same filters and ordering as Scribd does on its “Explore” page. Thanks again and we’ll keep in touch with the updates!

Drat. It is triggering a fatal error on install. I’ve tried deleting the old one and reinstalling from scratch and I get the same issue. Rolling back for now to the earlier version…

greenline

I’m sorry for this, I can help if you allow me. I made an update on my local website as well as on the demo site and both worked well…What does the error say? Do you use the latest WordPress version?

greenline

Also, please note that the shortcode parameters are changed in the latest version, the parameter “collection_id” is now a required parameter. You can see in the live demo a shortcode example or I can help you with the shortcode customization.

arnzen

The first time I uploaded it via ftp and all my wordpro pages were just whitescreens—no content. I deleted and tried uploading again from inside wordpress using the WP “new plugin” feature. That resulted in wordpress itself halting the installation and saying “Error Code 500”. I did change the parameters on the shortcode prior to this, but I think something else might be going on here, perhaps in conflict with my theme or set up.

greenline

If you wish a bit of help with that, I can help, but I will need some temporary login details to the admin panel to be able to see the log error and the exact behavior and setup. Just let me know please and I’ll gladly help.

I tried again and got more detail this time. Here’s the error report that came up in WordPress: FATAL ERROR ON INSTALL Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_RETURN, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or ‘{’ or ’$’ in ../scridder-plugin/pagination.php on line 75

greenline

Thank you very much for this; can I also ask which theme are you using? (I’m just trying to replicate the same environment in my local computer to be able to track the error)

arnzen

Business Pro from cyberchimps.com (Sorry I’m not comfortable sharing login details; sorry for the hassle… ).

greenline

Thank you. I’ll have a look then on my local environment. (don’t worry about sharing login details, I don’t feel comfortable doing that either :) I’ll let you know as soon as I find something.

greenline

Just a short update: I tried the Scridder plugin with other themes, including Business Pro the light version (the free one) and the install worked, so at this moment I really don’t know how to replicate the error to be able to debug & fix it. Though, I had last days the same issues with another plugin and it turned out that the customer tried to upload the wrong archive file from codecanyon, so I thought I should ask this too: the correct plugin archive is named scridder-plugin.zip , please have a look that this is the file that you try to install. Thanks again for your patience!

arnzen
arnzen Purchased

well, darn. the new update doesn’t fix it. Whenever I try to “activate” in Wordpress, I keep getting this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_RETURN, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or ‘{’ or ’$’ in ../blog/wp-content/plugins/scridder-plugin/pagination.php on line 75

I think there’s a conflict with my other plugins or the theme. But could something about line 75 of your code for pagination.php be amiss? I even tried renaming it “spagination” and doing so in the code to see if that would help—didn’t work.

greenline

Is it a public collection from Scribd that you intend to display? If yes, can you please share with me the link to the collection on Scribd (here or just email me from my profile page, for more privacy). I just want to have a look at the collection to see how many titles are in it, also if it has titles with special characters…Meanwhile, I saw the plugin installed on 4 other websites without any problem, so now I am suspecting a special case with the Scribd collection (special case which is uncaught by the plugin, resulting in parse error)

arnzen
arnzen Purchased

I’m sorry my situation is unique… I have retained the first version of the plugin and it works fine…so the hitch must be with the latest versions.

The collection is here: http://www.scribd.com/collections/2774451/Arnzen-Book-Samples-and-Previews

The code I’ve tried to use (without the key included) is: [scridder paginate=”24” key=”cutforprivacy” collection_id=”2774451”]

greenline

Recently there was a customer having the same error as yours. With his cooperation, I discovered where the problem is: in version 1.2, before uploading the new version to codecanyon, I used an online formatter to format the source code in a nice way. This online formatter introduced some spaces where it shouldn’t, I didn’t noticed them. Some themes recognized the spaces, while others interpreted them as errors. In the latest version I removed those spaces, the customer says it’s working now correctly. Just wanted to let you know :-)

arnzen

YES! I knew you’d be able to ferret out the bug… thank you. Love the plugin—it’s working great now at http://www.gorelets.com/books/ and the ability to filter down to specific collections is exactly what I needed. Well done!!!

greenline

Thank you for your patience with this! I definitely know my lesson now and I am not going to use ever automatic programs/formatters. It looks great on your website. All those books are written by you? I’m impressed, good luck and a lot of inspiration with your writings!

Still loving Scridder. I am curious if you have a recommended way to use scridder to show just one book on a page (sort of like how scribd will allow you to embed them). I ask because scribd embeds are not inherently usable with wordpress out of the box, but I think scridder could be used for this.

As opposed to a collection, show just one clickable book. Possible?

greenline

Thank you for your kind words :) I’m always happy to find Scribd lovers like me.

I am not sure if I understand correctly: now, on Scribd, when you click “Embed” in a book page – and then choose the WordPress format (like in this screenshot: http://awesomescreenshot.com/08c2602qdf ), it will give you the shortcode to embed and show on a WordPress website that particular book. Is this what you were thinking of?

Or you mean the possibility to show, for instance an image, a large book cover and when you click on it to see the book in full screen mode?

I’d be happy to help with any customization :)

arnzen
arnzen Purchased

Embeds using the scribd links for some reason no long work on my updated wordpress blog… from reading around, apparently the shortcode apparently is intended for the “wordpress.org” rather than self-hosted sites like mine, too. I don’t want to install their “jetpack” plugin if I can avoid it.

Anyway, I was thinking that just having the single cover to click on - or an image - just like you said, to see the book pages in the scridder pop up just like it works with the books that show when scridder posts collections.

If not, no big deal. I was just curious if including a special snippet in the scridder shortcode could do the trick for one book, rather than a whole collection (though I suppose I could create a collection on scribd holding just one book, that would be kind of crazy).

greenline

Would be crazy indeed, I agree :) Please let me have a look, I think it’s possible with a slight change in the code. I will let you know as soon as possible, I already have an idea about how to do this, but I have to test it first :)

Thank you for the purchase and for your appreciation! I am already working at a new update containing the possibility of filtering and sorting, the same way as Scribd does on its “Browse” page.

Hi i run a website for alternative therapist, and i’d like to put like 50 adresses in the map in one city.

Can this be done easy and can i set the markers on the right location in the street.

Thanks, Thomas

greenline

Hi, thank you for your interest. I think you were interested in the map plugin: http://codecanyon.net/item/responsive-styled-google-maps-wordpress-plugin/3909576

This map plugin does not have a graphical interface to add/remove markers. They have to be written by hand in the address field, separated by a | delimiter, like this: address1 | address2 | address3 | address 4 | address 5, etc

If you already have the list of addresses in text format, if you send me via my profile page, I can arrange a live demo of a map, so that you could see how the 50 markers are shown on the map.

Have you received my email?

As I already told you, the books display is messed-up by your theme, which puts the PRE tag around the shortcodes

Please contact the theme author and he will tell you how to fix, how to remove the surrounding PRE tags arround the shortcodes in his theme.

I could help too maybe, but I’ll need the admin user to fix his theme.

Im looking for a way to allow our clients to read pdfs. Will this help me at all?

Thanks!

greenline

Hi,

Yes, this plugin will help exactly with this. But to use it, you will need to upload first the pdfs to scribd.com (not locally on your website) and get an API key from their website. The plugin display pdfs which are stored on scribd.com

It’s the same as you would display a playlist of videos hosted on youtube.

If you wish, I can help with setting up everything, including uploading to scribd. The process seems difficult, but is i fact quite simple.

Thank you for your interest, kind regards
