Hello all. Is there a way to have folders with photomosaic for wordpress? The site I am running this on, the customer would like to have the photos organized so that he can have a section (folder) for st. pattys day, and then another with his St. Junes autism event … and so on… Is this possible to do with photomosaic?
Thanks for any answers .. Ray
PhotoMosaic doesn’t offer any photo management tools – so, no.
That said, PhotoMosaic can be used to display NextGen Gallery galleries which, I believe, can be configured to organize images into folders and even scan a folder for new photos.
Good Luck.
Hi. Got a simple one: How do I implement a mosaic gallery on a page withc pre-selected pictures? I even installled the NextGen plugin, tried your shortcode, but it will only display some images that are automatically selected from somewhere somehow, images I don’t wanna show there..
I made an extra folder, doesn’t seem to work though.. any help apprectiated
URL: http://adriatic-alligator.de/festival/images/
PhotoMosaic works like the standard WP
[gallery]shortcode and will, depending on how you use the shortcode, automatically use images attached to the current post ([photomosaic]), use images attached to a specific post ([photomosaic id="2"]), or can accept a list of image IDs to display ([photomosaic ids="1,2,3,4,5"]).PhotoMosaic can also accept a NextGen Gallery ID and will only show the images in that gallery (
[photomosaic nggid="1"]).Wordpress has always had the odd behavior where a
[gallery]shortcode in a post without any attached images will sometimes show the most recent images from the Media Library.Hello again..forget my prior question, now I implemented the following shortcode:
[photomosaic width=”300” height=”300” columns=”3” nggid=1]
pictures are disproportional, though they are actually downsized, I can’t see the mosaic-effect… not looking pretty at all…
same URL: http://adriatic-alligator.de/festival/images/
Reprocessing your thumbnails is covered in the FAQ
Meaning, if all of your images have the same aspect ratio and PhotoMosaic doesn’t need to adjust any images to normalize the columns then your mosaic will appear as a literal grid.
hmm. thanks for your quick reply. but i know that original thumbnails in wordpress are always proportionally resized. and the aspect ratio is changed because of the similar sizes of the pics then? wouldn’t it be more logical that the sizes just vary and resizing is always proportional, no matter what picture dimension, and some images are just cropped? i did the steps described in the faq on nextgen, but if you check, nothing changed. also, i put in 3 columns in the shortcode as you can see, but i see 5 columns…? need more help
PS: I also installed regenerate thumbnails..
I put ” adriatic ” as password on the post, since the site is live..
Yes, by default, WP’s thumbnails are scaled versions of the original (they have the same aspect ratio).
NextGen Galleries uses a completely separate system for processing thumbnails and ignores your WP settings . Make sure that Gallery (NextGen) > Options > Thumbnails > “Set fix dimension” isn’t checked.
Looking at the page’s source, you are still setting columns to “auto” (or “0”). If you would like me to take a look at your shortcode you’ll need to include it in a comment here OR give me access to your WP Admin so I can look at the page myself.
If you want to give me access to your WP Admin, the form on my author page emails me directly. You can safely post a username/password there.
Hi makfak, Love photomosaic. It works perfectly on my posts but I just cant get it to work on my pages. No matter what I try all of the images come up in one column.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
kind regards Trish
There’s nothing in PhotoMosaic itself that would cause it to behave differently post than it does on pages.
Is there a site where I can see this happening? If you don’t want to post a link here, contact me directly (via my author page) and I’ll take a look.
Hello, I’ve been checking this page every other day for the past 2 months hoping to get news of a release that fixes the nextgen gallery size issues. My pro website has been broken all that time, shall I just give up and redo my whole galleries and link my images to post via the standard image library? You said a couple of days to the release nearly 2 months ago. Thanks
The v2.2.5 release (which addressed this issue) was released over a month ago and should have addressed this issue. The most recent version, 2.3, was made available yesterday.
Which version of PhotoMosaic are you using? If you’re still using any version pre-2.2.5, please upgrade. If, after the upgrade, you continue to have trouble contact me directly (via my author page) and we’ll dig deeper.
Thanks Makfak. The latest release date was showing somewhere in Feb 2013 yesterday. I see an update today, so I’ll upgrade now, and the issue should be fixed. Thanks a lot.
That’s perfect. Thanks for the update.
Glad to hear it solved your problem.
I have an issue with the gallerie off the edge of my portfolio on ipad and all other mobile devices. http://www.paulpetch.co.nz/portfolio/
You are floating “ul#sharebarx” and giving it a width of 100%. It’s pushing all of your ”.post” content off the page.
Also, you’re still running v2.1.2 – you should consider upgrading to the latest version (v2.3). It’s available on your “Downloads” page.
Hey Makfak. Thanks. I’ve turned the plugin off and it still is off page. I’ll try update but i fear the same. Can i contact you with a login so you can play around with my css? Thanks
If you want to contact me directly (via my author page) that’s fine but this problem has nothing to do with PhotoMosaic. Any content that appears on the page after your social buttons (“ul#sharebarx”) will be pushed off the page because the sharebar’s CSS still has “float:left” after the iPad mediaquery cut.
I don’t know how your theme is handling the “responsive” design elements, but killing the float on the sharebar once it is positioned on top of the content (rather than floated to the left edge of the screen) will solve the problem.
Great. I’ll do that.
I ended up paying a dev to fix it. It took them 1 minute.
I’m glad you got things working but the tone of your comment suggests that I was wrong and unhelpful. I exchanged a number of emails with you and even told you exactly how fix the problem, even though the problem was with your ShareBar and had nothing to do with PhotoMosaic.
If you had someone else take a look and they determined that I was wrong… ok. What was the problem? How did they fix it?
If the problem was with PhotoMosaic please let me know what it was so I can fix it for everybody.
Comment was not meant to be rude. The fix you suggested did not fix it but grateful for your help. Thanks
I’m sorry my fix didn’t work. For my own education, if you’re willing to share, what exactly was the problem?
Added this code to the WP theme header.php file:
<meta name=”viewport” content=”width=1078”>
You can read more about it here: http://webdesignerwall.com/tutorials/viewport-meta-tag-for-non-responsive-design
Good to know. Thanks.
Thank you for the 2.3 update! Much appreciated.

Sure thing. Thanks for the feedback about the hover captions. I think, in the end, I’ll be adding the feature. It’ll require more options than I’d like but it will be more of a developer’s tool (like you said) and won’t have the ridiculous spate of options that I fear.
Sounds good. If not the caption, perhaps the image title, which is usually a short 1 or 2-word span of text. I’d customize the style sheet myself, but it’s a bit above my skill level. But if you did add a translucent overlay with image title, even intermediate devs like me could tweak the stylesheet on their own with things like overlay color/opacity and font size/color/weight/padding/position, etc. No need to integrate those options in the plugin interface in the WP admin.
Using the NextGen option for the gallery and loving the results. Also tweaked the style sheet to show a black translucent hover with a centered PLUS icon. Still can’t figure out how to get the image title to show up on the overlay (under the PLUS icon). Trying the a:hover:after pseudo class:
.photoMosaic a:hover:after { content: attr(title) ; color: #fff; position: absolute; bottom: 0; height: 100%; line-height: 30px; text-align: center; font-weight: normal; width: 100%; background: url(../images/gallery-hover-icon-97×97.png) center no-repeat; display: block; }
As you can see, the PLUS icon is showing up, but no title. Any thoughts?
CSS is logic-less. You can statically specify the title in the CSS (eg: content: “this is the title”;) but you can’t dynamically reference the content of an HTML node via CSS.
I was actually getting the image title to appear with the pseudo class, but seemed to be an either/or situation. I couldn’t get the PLUS graphic to appear at the same time.
I stand corrected. I played around with it the other day… I had no idea you could reference the contents of a node’s attributes via CSS. That’s amazing.
Looking at your page the problem is that you’ve set “content:attr(alttext)”. First, there’s no such attribute called “alttext” – it would just be “alt”. Second, your anchors don’t have any “alt” attributes. Because your selector is “a:hover:after” it means that the pseudo element will become the last-child inside of the anchor and only have access to the anchor’s attributes. If you changed the “alttext” to “href” you’d see text (albeit not the text you want).
Hello, I have been using your plugin for months now with no problems and love it. Today I updated to version 2.3 and now when an image is clicked on it doesn’t show the prettybox lightbox. It only shows the photo with a like and tweet button below it, with no arrows or expand button.
Can you please help me with this? Thank you!
Is there a page where I can see the problem happening? You can either post it here or contact me directly (via my author page) and I’ll take a look.
Nevermind, It’s working again. Thanks so much for this great plugin!
Great!
Actually… Can I ask what changed that got things working again? Was it a problem with PhotoMosaic or was something else causing trouble?
Thanks.
ignore this, fixed my problem
Hi makfak,
In the midst of doing a little website renovation, I’ve tried to enable Link to URL for the photomosaic gallery. However, whenever I enable this option, it makes the entire gallery disappear (it just doesn’t load the images).
I have Link Images checked, and all of my images have their links set accordingly. I’ve tried enabling via the shortcode as well with no luck. Am I just doing something wrong? Would LOVE to get this feature working. Thanks!
This sounds similar to a bug that got fixed a while ago. First, make sure you’re running the latest version (2.3). If you still have trouble, message me directly (via my author page) and we’ll figure it out.
Hi, great job, I have a problem: I would like to have two Photomosaic gallery on the same page, in this case the responsive design only works on one of the two.
regards.
Jean
Edit: Is’t work correctly, it’s just when I reduces or enlarges the window of my browser, iPad or smartphone that’s OK. Sorry.
I see what you’re talking about. All mosaics are sized correctly when they load initially. It’s only when manually resizing the browser that only one mosaic is actively responsive.
A fix will go out in the next update. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Realized I have two accounts here, sorry!
How does one update to 2.3? I’ve re-downloaded it, but it gives me version 2.2.
*edit- Nevermind, I guess it is 2.3, but Wordpress calls it 2.2 in the plug-ins menu for whatever reason. Hopefully this’ll solve things!
Looks like I changed the version number everywhere but where it matters.
You can also plug this monster into your browser console on a page with a mosaic to get the version number:
Let me know if you continue to have trouble.
So far so good! Got the link_to_url to work flawlessly, and I love it.
Now only getting a little frustrated with WP’s new 3.5 media gallery that won’t let me save changes I make to media, such as adding a link in the description. (I have to make all the changes in the media library and save there.) But that’s 3.5’s problem.
Thanks for the quick responses, and of course for the wonderful plug-in. T’is much appreciated!
HI Mafak hope ou are well. I’m having a little trouble getting photomosaic to work on a site I’m developing – http://www.superbo.co.uk/funkymuppet/gallery/weddings/ is the page where I’m trying to implement the gallery, but no images show up when I change the shortcode from [gallery…] to [photomosaic….]
I haven’t a clue how to fix this! Hope you can help
For some reason Wordpress is injecting paragraph tags into PhotoMosaic’s javascript. While I can’t stop WP from doing something so stupid, I’m pretty sure removing the whitespace from the JS will prevent the problem.
I’ll get an update submitted to CodeCanyon ASAP. Thanks.
Many thanks, I appreciate your efforts, as I’m sure we all do!
Hi makfak,
Me again. Still having trouble implementing the shortcode. It mainly just seems to be the lightbox feature, and opening in a new window.
I want to use the Photomosaic gallery in two different ways – on my portfolio page, I want it set so that the images link to a specific post when clicked – and the post opens in a new page. Once it goes to that specific post, I’ve implemented a photomosaic gallery that would open the images in lightbox via the shortcode.
However, no matter what variation of shortcode/default settings I mess with, it seems that it’s only one way or the other. It’s as if turning lightbox on/off with the shortcode doesn’t do anything – it’s only controlled through the default settings.
The link that I’m trying to reach with link_to_url (when lightbox is enabled in default settings) does indeed open, but it opens the link in a lightbox, which is silly. Right clicking and opening in a tab makes it work the way I want it to, but that too is silly. However, using the external_links=”1” shortcode to prevent this doesn’t do anything either.
Essentially, I can get either photomosaic gallery to work perfectly – but not both at the same time, because they either both open in lightbox, or both do not.
Maybe I’m just missing something, but I do believe I’ve tried everything I can. Is there any other shortcode I could try, or is there some other way to make the links open in a window? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
There was a bug that caused PhotoMosaic to ignore the ‘lightbox’ and ‘custom_lightbox’ attributes when they were set inline on the shortcode. This was fixed in v2.3.1. Make sure you’re running the most recent version (available in your CodeCanyon > Downloads).
Everything else you mentioned will fall into place once you have that bugfix.
makfak,
I’ve updated to the latest version. However, now lightbox isn’t working at all. Not through the default settings or through the use of shortcode. I’ve tried both the default lightbox and custom lightbox, to no avail.
My web designer friend and I have been trying to configure this for days now, and its been very frustrating. We’re both pretty familiar with WP, but we can’t seem to solve this puzzle.
Any ideas?
Either post a link to a page where I can see the problem happening or, better yet, contact me directly (via my author page). If you give me access to your WP admin, and point me in the direction of the affected pages, I’ll take a look.
Hi, could it be that the Photomosaic plugin breaks the NextGen gallery, using the NextGen Shortcode brings weird thumbnails, they should be 50×50 with some padding but are like 10×50 without any padding, you could check i.e. here: http://www.adri.de/en/blog/2011/02/28/guatemala-2011/ Thx, adrian
Nothing PhotoMosaic does should effect any markup generated by a NextGen shortcode. Looking at your page, the images are displaying the way you say they should (50×50). Are you still seeing the 10×50 images? If so, which browser are you using?
Again, I can’t think of any possible way PhotoMosaic would be causing the behavior you’re describing but, if you’re still having trouble, I’m happy to take a look.

Hi, thx for answering, I checked with I.E. 8, still weird. Tested on another PC with Google Chrome, everything fine, so its an IE prob, thx for your help!
What’s the best way to update the plugin? I see there have been updates since I first installed it.. one in particular that I’d like to have which is that the lightbox gallery order respects the input order. Thanks!
Download the latest version from CodeCanyon (in your Downloads section) and simply replace the PhotoMosaic folder in your WP plugins directory.
Great. thanks!
