The thing that has made me think twice about buying themes isn’t so much the prices, but the way that many theme authors on this thread have responded to users giving fair comments.
It seems that you even dare mention that there are good themes elsewhere or that you can get good prices elsewhere and you are attacking them.
right… the fact is if you google “Wordpress themes” you can find at least 10 WP subscription sites that have decent themes, some actually very high quality, where you get 20+ WP themes AND forum support AND unlimited usage/developer license, for just $50-$100 or so. So it’s a very competitive marketplace, and many of those WP subscription theme sites have been around for years before TF was even here.
As a buyer, one big concern is that there isn’t dedicated forum support for most of the themes, which most other places that sell WP themes do offer, from the developers, who have a positive attitude about providing ongoing support, without attacking customers acting like WP theme support is a nuisance instead of “what all your competitors offer”. We pay your salary, don’t forget it, or we go elsewhere. Punky authors with bad attitudes certainly don’t get nor deserve my business, and that’s really apparent to a lot of people here, looking at the disappointment from buyers in many theme threads and posts throughout the site here. Get over yourselves, authors. You are here because we pay you. Don’t forget that.
Google “wordpress themes” and look very carefully at what your competitors offer, compared to here. Positive, friendly ongoing support in forums and regular updates for compatibility, no single-site restricted licenses (for most places), and lots and lots of themes for a lot less $. Buyers aren’t dummies and deserve to be treated with respect, if you want our money that is. Just sayin’
@graphic4444: I’m curious as to what you’ve shortlisted as other sites for high quality themes to compare with my own list. In fact I think some may not appear via Google search (in the pages that count) as I was pleasantly surprised last week when a potential client referred me to a site he liked for something similar and from a quick check of the source code I was able to find the theme source. So impressed I was that I had to send a comment to the site to that effect.
I think you’re going to get some flack for your comment though, buyers with spines are frowned upon here of late.
FYI , that potential client is now my client and chose the theme ‘Made’ by Industrial Themes which I purchased this week. Yes, ‘chose’ I shortlist suitable themes an send clients links to the authors’ demo sites.
Man when will you guys stop complaining? First was spending too much time supporting a theme or item then it was items are too cheap so they increased there prices now your saying too many items are being released this is what happens when you increase prices an see drops in sales authors release more to recoupe in lost sales. buyers are looking at other market places due to increases. ..... ..... ..... Blah Blah Blah
Just stop complaining.
graphic4444, although I agree about the fact that very old themes doesn’t deserve price hike, the recent trend of theme making is few steps ahead which obviously requires overall increase. From your opinions what I could grasp is you (or may be some buyers in general) expecting more choice to choose (with fixed cost spent on trial & error) rather than “most fit” ones created/selected .
I guess Envato’s entire business model is based on the assumption that if a buyer purchases an item, that means item preview and description itself convinced the buyer to spend that price. This obviously needs buyers to spend their pre-purchase efforts to minimize support requests as well as understanding about the value they gain vs price. We all know this is what made the entire micro-stock concept to stay profitable for everyone utilized and
everyone few lucky ones contributed .
Change all the prices into $1, problem solved? no, still it will not help choosing right theme that most fits and functional.
