Why not feature Bundles/Collections, instead of Envato itself?

Every single other Marketplace features bundles or collections on it’s main page, helping to support the authors on that marketplace. But why does Tuts+ feature Rockable Press, which is actually an Envato-owned company?

You just have a huge sale to try and promote the marketplace, and make it more attractive. Well, certainly one way to make it more attractive would be to feature yourself less, and the community more. Looking past this irony, I also just feel it’s bad sport from Envato to advertise itself so much (no wonder Rockable Press is the 2nd best selling “Author” on Tuts+!), and not the authors selling on the site.

The other marketplaces seem to have it right. Feature bundles or collections on a theme.

Obviously if this was a one time thing, I wouldn’t mind. But the only time I can remember the main featured panel on the front side being anything else than: Rockable, the recent sale, or linking to a different marketplace, was a short period where it instead featured PeepCode. But in my bit over 4 months selling here, Rockable has been taking up almost all the time there.

I do not mean to sound grumpy, nor ungratefully. I think the Tuts+ marketplace is an awesome place to be 99% of the time, but this is one thing that I must admit has been bugging me for some time now.

That spot, on all the marketplaces, is reserved for whatever is most valuable to the community. Sometimes it’s a specific items, sometimes it’s a collection, and we’ve even used that area to promote events and competitions. Though I think the Rockable book is a great thing to have, I agree that it’s been far too long since we’ve had a community item up there. I’ll get a couple new banners put together so it rotates between them. Thanks for the reminder!

Oh I’m sure the Rockable book is fantastic (I actually considered buying it since I do a lot of marketing on Facebook myself!), it wasn’t meant as a quality issue at all. But rather that Rockable has been featured A LOT (as I said, in my 4 months, I’ve seen >one< other Author featured there, as well as “community” stuff every now and then), and perhaps it should rather use some stuff for free files, collections, cycle through authors, or something like that :)

Glad to hear it’s getting an update though, I’ll look forward to it!
