I have a big problem. I am seachring a lot for inspiration. I had a lot of ideas but then in the doing process I always fail. I want to know how YOU get your ideas, not where you get “inspired” (sometimes stealing ideas), just how you get an idea and how your working process is. So what is the first thing you do.
I mean if I watch IT damn awesome project, I always think where the hell he get the idea from!? How is it possible that people are uploading every week another big project. I know some of you will say, that I just should work. But I am a student and dont have much time and if I have time, I dont know where I should start with my work. It would be great if some of you could give me some tips.
I have ideas but it always fail if I am trying to build that in AE, not because of my skills. I just dont know, where to start and to do.
This is probably the single thing most “Creative types” endure in the beginning of their careers, myself included. The best advice I can give from personal experience is to just create! Even though thats probably not the answer you wanted, it’s the best one.
A lot of my songs started from a similar state of mind as you have. But I just keep sitting down at my piano or guitar and pluck away. Tons of those ideas are lame and not what I wanted to achieve but eventually there will be a “diamond in the rough” that will turn into a giant wrecking-ball of creativity and inspiration which leads to a finished project.
All artists endure things like this, you just have to stay focused and know that eventually your vision will develop and take form. I don’t think anyone can “see” an original project in their head from start to finish unless it’s something they’ve done many times before or takes ideas from other works. Maybe some creative veterans can do this, I don’t know
Try your best to find things that inspire you in all forms of life, not just creativity and artwork. This will help you develop a strong vision of what you want to achieve with your works and with enough diligence, you will get there.
Just my 2 cents on the subject, sadly I can’t offer any tech advice since I’m an audio nerd from AJ

Couldn’t said it better myself. Good advices.
Listen to bunch of files over at AJ and if you can visualize something that goes along with a particular song analyze it to see if you can make all the elements needed and how long will it take to animate all the moves. Lay the plan on the paper, can help a lot
If the work amount fits your time – start making it. It can be frustrating when things don’t go according to plan but you gotta be prepared for this – seems like a second nature of making templates
Don’t give up on the first obstacle tho, you have to be persistent till the work is done. Anyway after ~10 templates the process will become somewhat automated and it’ll also get easier with time
for creativity ideas in video production, this is the best spot on the internet… just sort by “sales” for VH projects and look at dozens of video previews… super creative people here, they all inspire me… thanks!
.
overall my top #1 favorite project is dani’s NY, the opening scene and then from :33 on: . http://videohive.net/item/my-new-york/242422?WT.ac=search_item&WT.seg_1=search_item&WT.z_author=DaniMult.
for C4d inspiration, I also like troika design. and of course Andrew Kramer at videocopilot is a great inspiration (and very funny dude, too) and the ‘subway’ one by another guy was great too… hundreds of great ones here

Look over many items in the VideoHive then make one which is close to none of all of what you have seen in style, in aestetics, in design and so on
Do something very different than you see.
Most of the times I get inspired by static design. Like brochures, experimental art, graphic design and so on. I image how can I make it move, and here you go you got a bag full of ideas.
This is pretty amazing if you’re inspired by “out of the box” type projects

When I was watching this I was thinking, too bad there isn’t so much sound like this on AJ… and there isn’t I’ve been looking.. maybe we could do something
p.s. I love the animations.
I would love to collab on a project like this. I really enjoy composing dark / ambient / surreal music and sound. Heres something I scored for a client a few months ago for a sci fi short film.
http://audiojungle.net/item/elegant-futuristic-electronica/553978If you have idea, just do it now as concepts in AE and leave alone your other projects. then go back to your projects. so you can keep your ideas as well. and don’t make just your idea. let your brain dance on new ideas while working.
