When I go to upload my wordpress theme using the zip file I downloaded I am given this error message, “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.” What can I do to solve this problem?

Hi! You need to unzip the file you downloaded and upload the theme inside it. Please see Solving broken theme issues. Hope that helps
