I thought this was aloud? I made a thread not to long ago and was told its a no in forums but self promoting in the item descriptions was okay.

The reason I ask is I got an email today threatening that my account will be disabled because I am offering a PRO upgrade for an item from my own site. From what I was told that is perfectly fine as its not in the forums, and its an upgrade?

Can anyone confirm?

If you’re a exclusive autor you only can sell the item on envato marketplace. I think you got a warning because you are selling a pro upgrade to an Item that is on the marketplace, to sell it on your website too you have to be no-exclusive author.

It is not the same item though?

The PRO version comes with a ton more features and completely different functionality etc.

heres the post where it explains its http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/free-stuff/57308?page=4#517608

because you’re selling something Im guessing they considered it a competing site which is not allowed

essentially you can’t use the marketplaces to promote any other items free or commercial IF its not on the sites

But the key to all these postings is that I am not giving away anything for free, and the item in question is NOT FOR SALE HERE . Its a completely different version. I know its not aloud in the forums but from what I have seen and been told this is supposed to be okay in item pages?

Jordan’s post was focussing on the offering of free items, but the same can be said of items for sale. The purpose of the Marketplace Profile pages and the Forums is not for offering files free or otherwise. You can link to your website, but you can’t offer particular items for sale etc. on your Profile pages.

COMPETING MARKETPLACE * i.e. you can’t link to stuff you sell somewhere else that is in similar nature of something that can or is sold on the marketplaces

example: you can link to something that is sold on themeforest from codecanyon

you CANNOT link to your own theme marketplace(or another competitor) from a theme sold on theme forest something that would pull users away from purchasing something on the theses marketplaces

I didn’t know that. Thanks. But I have definitely seen some item pages linking to free files hosted by authors. Even the Author pages having link to free items. Should I report that to support?

So I can link to (my) website where you can download freebies but I’m not allowed to offer them on my profile!? So what’s the different?

You can link to your website but you can’t tell people to click on the link to buy/download something.

EDIT : speaking from experience…
