Dear envato, It’s such a PITA everytime I try to login. The captcha code is unreadable most of the times, the words are not intuitive and thus it becomes even more difficult to enter the correct words. Why do we have to enter the captcha everytime? I think it’s just stupid. No other site that I know of asks for a captcha every single time. Please atleast use a different system to generate the code if you can’t get rid of it completely.

Please press the refresh button next to the unreadable letters if you require a new captcha to solve:

Captcha is required to stop the huge number of hack attempts the marketplace receives. If you have cookies enabled then you don’t have to enter a captcha again if you have already logged in successfully from that computer.

Thanks for the reply. But, refreshing the captcha is not of much use. Check the image below. First one is a series of captchas produced upon refreshing. Tell me how many of them are readable.

Atleast use the system similar to what tinypic and other sites are using. They are easily readable and words are actually phrases which makes typing in them much more easier.

I know about cookies but I travel a lot and have to many times, access from public or friends machines and thus have to login everytime.

Also with this google recaptcha system if there is a completely unreadable word (like some of those showing half of two words above eachother) then you can enter anything.

I am with Rabid, captcha is the most annoying thing going.

Not sure why you would have captcha on a login system. Just time ppl out if they make three false attempts.

Utilising captcha to login is quite ludicrous.

Sometimes i think devs put stuff in cos they think they should !

Devs explained the need of a somewhat-hard-to-solve captcha system a while ago. The list of marketplace usernames is very easy to collect automatically, so crackers were trying every available username against common passwords. Bound to find someone on here that is using a common password.

Maybe one day they’ll move to a simply diy captcha system (like support.envato.com) but they’re much easier for botnets to solve.

Quite possible google is sending harder-to-solve captchas to envato marketplaces due to the high number of failures, the ones I have to type several times a day to access my admin system do not seem that hard to solve.

I dont see how that scenario reduces the opportunity for “hackers” to get in .. aside from pissing everyone off, it was just intended to piss the spammers off ?

Hmm.. but then as a Login system, you could quite easily adopt a more mature system , because as it stands… most users remember their password first time.. that isnt the issue, and if a hacker knew a password a recaptcha aint gonna put em off.

So do a three tries, and timed out scenario. Simple and all it does is remove the additional step of recaptcha. Perhaps better still, if user types correct username and pass combination show them a easy captcha !

If nuggets are thick enough to have password such as “abc123” or “password” then thats their lookout. Session ID and IP attribution to accounts could also thwart spammers from hack, collate, logout, repetitively.

Anyhoo, these kind of threads fall on deaf ears.

I disagree with you entirely. If anybody on these marketplaces uses an easy to guess password (I.E qwerty) they deserved to be hacked and loose everything that they have (money, files, everything).

Also, if you’re allowed to type anything on a captcha, doesn’t that defeat the point

Captcha on login is just stupid but as SportTipsWorld said, these threads don’t go anywhere, so I won’t waste my or anybody elses time.

normally yep, but sometimes these books don’t scan correctly and half a word comes through, so there is no correct answer for the 2nd word, only the 1st computer generated or control word.

I hate the captcha. I also think that I have lost a number of sales because of it (a number of my buyers have asked to purchase my applications directly because of it, unfortunately that isn’t possible, 50% is already a crap percentage).

One of the many issues with codecanyon IMHO ….
