Hi I’m really new to photoshop and would love some help. I’ve made a logo and one layer uses the dissolve blending mode, but when i save the file as a jpeg or flatten the image the effects of that blending mode disappear. Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? Thanks :)

Keep ‘Dissolve’ blending mode over your desired layer. Create a new blank layer over it. Select both the layers. Right click and select ‘Merge Layers’. Then do whatever you need with it. Does this solve your problem?

No, when i merge the 2 layers the effects disappears again.

More details about your document and layer, like Color mode and if it’s a smart object or if there’s some style applied on it, etc.. will be helpful to solve your problem because the way I did it, it was a simple black spot with ‘Dissolve’ as blending mode on the layer. it worked ok.

Also, are you using CS3 ?

its quite strange that the effect disappears when you merge the layers.

try this trick, just to see if photoshop still maintains the effect

1) cmd/ctrl + A (select the whole area of the canvas)

2) cmd/ctrl + shift + c (copy merged)

3) cmd/ctrl + v (paste)

you should get a new top layer that contains all the layers you initially created plus effects, advanced filters, blending modes etc..

now you can save the file as .jpg or copy the layer in a new document.

cheers

m.

In short: Go to the top most layer and hit Shift+Alt+Ctrl+E.

The same thing happens when i do that too. I should have mentioned I’m using Elements if that makes any difference, and the layer with the blending mode is an image i pasted into it. This is my first time using Photoshop so it could be something really simple I’m missing :)

Sorry no idea about Elements. Probably someone who knows about it can help you. :( I’ve looked up about it on net but couldn’t find an answer to the problem.
